It sounds quite logical to me.

Just a note - I can't play rugby (football habits, always running in front of the ball) and the punt-kicking is also from the good old football days, when goal keepers used to do that often (can't do it now with these light footballs). Rugby ball just happens to be prevalent in my location :-)
 
On Sunday, RMC decides what topic his posts will be for the week.

This Sunday RMC decided, everyone will be talking about how we should have been running the ball in the 4th quarter. He decided he will start to put together an argument on why they should have been passing.

He also has a backup plan set up so he can argue the complete opposite point.

Actually the first thing I wrote down after the game was "I can't wait til these idiots treat this like the Tennessee playoff game, where morons will actually think we lost because we didn't do more Cowbell".

And I wasn't sure if it was going to happen. But not only did it happen, it was the first time I could recall universally where people decided yards per carry were more important than point per game. It's truly a defining moment for the boards.

Then I went back to writing down useful parts of the game, like critical turnovers in terrible spots, bad play calling and execution on 3rd and 4th downs, poor QB play, etc. You know... the things that get you in the spot you're in.

You can't get points if you don't get to the red zone bro. Not sure how you keep missing that concept. Unless you think Huntley was going to go out there and throw an 80 yard bomb. And if you thought that, please share whatever you were on because that shit seems incredible.

Cool. We got to the red zone a couple times. We did it by running the ball. We even ran it when we got there. It didn't work.

So why was it going to work now?

Happy that at least somebody has arrived at one of the actual problems, with is red zone efficiency. Almost as if some of you are realizing it's kind of been the biggest issue the whole year.
 
On the Stout discussion, I feel like he's been alright but definitely more on the disappointing side... especially when you use a 4th rounder. With that being said, he's had a couple of really good games which gives me hope. Can't remember exactly which, but there was one game where he practically flipped the field on his own and kept us in that game. He just needs to be more consistent. The skill is there.

How the fuck were we supposed to get points if we can't get to the red zone in the first place?

Plus I was told part of the reason we averaged such huge YPC is because we were getting large chunk runs at will. So why don't we just bank on a 30-40 yard TD run instead of getting in the RZ?

The same way other teams do it... by throwing the ball down the field.
And if that doesn't work, which it didn't, then you lose. Because this team isn't good enough in the red zone to win games that way. That's the difference. I'm willing to lose taking shots. You're willing to lose as long as the YPC is high.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner.

I'm willing to lose by giving ourselves a fighting chance in the first place. Throwing the ball gave us no fighting chance.

And that's where we disagree. Throwing the ball against Denver didn't give us a fighting chance either. Then, it did.

I think giving ourselves a fighting chance should probably involve not putting yourself in that position to begin with. Honestly you can just re-watch the first three quarters of that game and easily predict what's going to happen in the fourth, regardless of play calling.
