The Random Thought Thread

OK, we have vastly different definitions of critical.
Critical, in my world, pretty much literally means "can't win without him". Like we're a .500 team or worse if he's not on the field.
Most teams have one player on their roster that fits that mold, and its the QB. Everybody else is largely "expendable" to the extent that a team can still be wildly successful from a W/L perspective without them.

I feel extremely confident in saying that if the Ravens don't win the SB this year, I will at zero point in time say its because we didn't have Mark Andrews.

I would be shocked to see the Ravens have a material drop-off in points scored, or yardage gained, without Andrews, long term. I think if we do, it will be for factors that don't relate to Andrews. Namely, pass protection. My point in other posts is that if I took Tyreek Hill off the Dolphins, and replaced them with a depth player, they'd see a significant drop off in yardage and PPG scored. I think that's extremely true for Travis Kelce and a handful of other high-end receivers in this league. Andrews is not near that list for me.

And this isn't necessarily a knock on Andrews. I think the overwhelming majority of players on this roster fit this category.
I must say though, One of those players, besides Lamar is Marlon Humphrey, or at least he was in 2021 because obviously John Harbaugh is going to go for 2 if he's not there, so we will lose games.

We have more depth at Corner and in the secondary this year. We've won games, and played well enough, without Marlon already this season.

it was more than just Humphrey during that Green Bay Packer game, which is what you were talking about. Humphrey went out and we were down to street cornerbacks at that time. If we had gone for the PAT, most likely we get beaten in OT. We still may have lost because there was still time for Aaron Rodgers to get downfield and kick a field goal. Anyway, the point is it wasn't just Humphrey, it's because we were down to street cornerbacks in 2021.

now the 2 pt. try vs the Steelers when TJ Watt forced an early pass was on Andrews. Andrews slows down, where as if he just continued running the route, he would have waltz into the end zone. That was a perfect pass by Lamar.

It’s not a matter of what I do or don’t believe. The stats are what they are.

The story they tell is that our guys don’t track the ball well and don’t make plays on the ball when it’s catchable.

I don’t see much more for discussion unless you believe the ball needs to be thrown even better than good., which historicall

At some point one of these guys are going to have to win one of those balls. In general, they haven’t done a good job. That’s what those numbers mean.

Me questioning what it means is not knowing the criteria used to compile the stats. Just not sure how you consistently and objectively qualify a pass as catchable.

When you look at this it blames the receiver 100% of the time. We all know receivers can run a couple of diffrent patterns on certain plays. Lets say a slot receiver can run a fly or a 20 yd out and they miscommunicate on the reading of the defense and Lamar throws a fly while the receiver cuts out they're deeming that as a "catchable" ball. Even If a receiver even puts a finger on the ball is that deemed catchable. To me its not but whoever came up with this graph might think its so.

Why are the Ravens putting playoff tickets on sale next week? Can we win our division first lol.
Most teams put playoff tickets on sale months in advance. If you wait until you clinch, they'll only have a week or two to sell them in most cases.

The one he threw to Bateman was catchable. So was the deep one to Odell that the defender got the best of him and knocked him off of his timing.

You either see it or you don’t want to see it. That stat was simply shows how he appears to be either a great defensive play or he is failed by his receivers at a higher rate than most.

Pat Mahomes would be the other one.

Man I almost feel bad for the Steeler faithful. Watching a proud and successful franchise be reduced to complete ass and the fans booing in the first quarter…. Almost

I don't know how anyone could subject themselves to watching that trash football game tonight

I'm watching the Game Awards. Here's some random thoughts so far (for anyone who cares):

* Exodus gave me some serious Mass Effect vibes. Really wanna see more
* Rise of the Ronin looks like a dope-ass samurai game
* Hideo Kojima is doing a game with Jordan Peele and you just know it's gonna be batshit
* Free God of War: Ragnarok DLC next week. Love the Santa Monica devs
