The Random Thought Thread

I still am! But i know carr is not a good cb at all and id rather our rookie to be out there learning from his mistakes than a vet who probably wont get any better.

what we've been saying all year is that he hasnt really been making that many mistakes while still playing a lot of snaps...

and then this happened when he finally took over from carr (who also has played well this year) - he got beat once over the top by half a step but the ball was overthrown and he tackled the guy anyway so after all that he still wouldnt have given up a single touchdown all season as a rookie corner in the worst case scenario

Why did he get fired?
People don't generally get fired because they are really good at what they do.

he was essentially a scapegoat for their offensive woes due to an awful qb room and a 6 game losing streak - i mean he essentially got fired because he got forced to play with brock osweiler for 3 weeks and surprise surprise their offence didnt magically improve...

Is this an assumption or do you have an article?

Is this an assumption or do you have an article?

i mean it's not from any particular article but a lot of around the nfl reporters etc. are posting snarky comments etc about the firing

the other thing is that vance joseph suggested in his presser that they need to make this change to become more efficient as an offence and that turnovers were the issue - bad qb decisions by bad qbs arent really on the OC - as much as we've panned marty here and rightly so we still put the ints on the player that made the call (normally joe)

this all suggests to me a few things:

broncos werent happy with the way mike mccoy called the games in the sense that he was calling for too many passes with their garbage qbs
the move away from siemian was to reduce turnovers but brock osweiler is not a qb who is going to do that because he's awful
this is really an excuse to get paxton lynch on the field with the guy he's worked most closely with (it may well be that mike mccoy doesnt think lynch is ready but the rest of the coaching staff want lynch so they promoted the guy who worked with lynch most)
the timing is really weird too - they are pretty much out of contention in every sense at this point - why not make it to the end of the season???
but most importantly it suggests to me that elway is trying to save his own skin a little bit here because as much praise as he's had for assembling a superbowl team and acquiring peyton manning he's not acquired good talent:

Now I only ask these two questions because I have no absolutely idea on either of them:

Is Paxton Lynch that much of a scrub as to why he isn't getting any playing time?

Without comparing him to Marty (what a joke), what does McCoy do well?

siemian beat him out cleanly in training camp and then lynch got an injury so when they benched siemian lynch had only had 2 days practice - but now that he's been back for 3 weeks and the qb coach (ostensibly his coach given that osweiler always seemed to go to mccoy) has been promoted to OC i fully expect them to play lynch

that being said im not sure thats the right play given that he was so far behind siemian in TC and wont have had much of a chance to improve since...

this feels a little how i imagine the chiefs situation with mahomes will go down towards the end of next year

fair enough.
I understand how you came to that conclusion.

Do we really need to draft Oline in next years draft? Especially high? I mean we will have Stanley, Hurst, Howard, Lewis, Siragusa, Yanda, Skura, Jensen ( please resign) and eleumenour to mentor. Maybe add another guy at gaurd but if they stay healthy thats a real solid group. Id rather focus more attention to TE and WR

Yes, we do. Yanda can't keep powering through injuries forever, and Collins is constantly getting contact at the line of scrimmage. Plus Howard is pretty damn old too.
