The Random Thought Thread

Last nights results were good for us as it keeps the Bengals in the playoff hunt and a competitive mindset.
If Bengals win out they will take the last spot over Denver , while beating Pitt in the process. That could be the game that gives us the division.

Of course it’s meaningless if don’t win tomorrow

Seeing some of these NIL figures dudes are getting in college now... can you imagine how much bank Tim Tebow would have made in this era?
I would have settled for a free pizza a week from my local pizza joint.

It seems like every now and then some team comes up with a trick play.
I would like to see the Ravens come up with a play where
Lamar gives the ball to Henry on a sweep. Henry stops and
throws an across the field pass to Lamar.

you mean just like the one that had a pick 6 a week or two ago. I'd rather not put Lamar at risk of injury with this type of play. Sure we can have some trick plays available if our offense isn't moving in our back pocket, but currently I'd prefer Monken not to get to cute.

I mean CB was very clearly a need as evidenced by Stephens being terrible. Hamilton is an example of going BPA. Wiggins is an example of picking a position of need.

this is revisionist history
people were talking about trying to do a stephens deal early this offseason lol

you can never have too many CBs but it was not a clear need on the roster at that time
and if it is a "need" then basically every position on the roster is a need always too...

by that same argument we had needs this offseason at OT, OG, WR, EDGE, LB, CB, S and using the same level of hindsight... Kicker too.
if you include backup QB and backup C as well that leaves you with only TE, DL, LS and P as non-needs

by that same logic, Hamilton would have been a need pick when we picked him also...

When the Ravens came on the board for the draft this year and they showed the team needs what they showed was: WR, CB, OL, and DL.

S was not even considered remotely a need 3 years ago when that pick came in. They had just paid 15m per year in FA and Clark already slotted to start along with Stone as a backup people liked. When that pick happened people were wondering what kind of packages were going to be built because of how overloaded the team now was at S.

Flash forward to this year. You had Humphrey locked in as a starter and Stephens who was considered mediocre but workable. Behind them you had nothing and everyone knew they had nothing behind them because a lot of the snaps signed deals elsewhere. That means when Wiggins was picked nobody wondered how he would see the field. It was obvious as there was a clear starting spot available for him.

Nobody really doubted where Wiggins would start on day 1 because it was an obvious need. The same is true of Linderbaum. With Hamilton it was viewed as "He will be a great tool to develop this year and use going forward and if he breaks out as a starter this year that is great as well". That is the definition of drafting BPA.

Wiggins was absolutely best player availble. Not saying others were just as qualified at that point, just he was a bpa and was going to be needed with Stephens a free agent at the end of the year. That is the clear definition of a player that was bpa and a need. EDC and the front office are playing chess, not checkers.
