Speaking of pass rusher, anyone have some input on the the guy from USC, Nwosu?

he could be a really nice designated pass rusher in the nfl - he's absolutely not going to be a 4-3 end and i wonder how he'd do against the run as a linebacker but he's got a nice get off and some pass rush moves and he's violent so he certainly is a player that has a significant ceiling in the nfl and is still developing through college - he has shown an ability to cover down field a little bit and has shown some lethality at blitzing from an off-the-LoS linebacker alignment and on twists/stunts so i wonder what his spot is in the nfl whether its a pure 3-4 OLB or whether he's a 4-3 OLB (could maybe be both)

he's a developmental prospect though but one i like - i think he gets picked higher than we'd expect though

@rossihunter2 what are your thoughts on Harold Landry. Ive watched a bunch of him and i feel like his poor 2017 is overblown a bit. He looked really good before his injury and that injury really did his season in. Other than that his previous film screams top 15 pick. Had he declared after 2016 im not sure he makes it to us at 16 and thats no joke. Hes also had the best coaching you can ask for as a college pass rusher.

so i see a few things i like from harold landry:
  • he's got the best bend of any pass rusher in this class and its not close
  • he's got a great burst off the line and nice pursuit speed
  • he's got savvy technique on his rush moves
  • he's strong with his hands and isnt afraid to engage with tackles
  • controls tackles well and attacks them with a variety of moves to disengage when he needs to
  • he reads the qb nicely

and a few things i dont like so much:
  • he lacks a violence and nastiness that he needs vs nfl tackles which can lead to him being taken out of the play and doesnt necessarily project well
  • he can be victimised in the run game which will keep him off the field early on in his career
  • lacks counter moves and could do with adding a spin/swim/rip move to his repertoire
  • can get washed or held on blocks for too long albeit sometimes he negates that problem by reading the qb well simultaneously that a late disengage isnt the end of the world

ultimately he feels like a hybrid between vic beasley and timmy williams to me - a guy that's got the burst and bend and athleticism to be successful if given space to rush in but might ultimately struggle to see the field early on and may struggle with the step up in class of nfl tackles

i certainly think he's got a decent floor but i dont see him (even based off his 2016 film) as a top 15 pick just because im not sure that he wont be easily manipulated out of games by opposition players

to me he's a designated pass rusher with the opportunity to get bigger and stronger in an nfl conditioning program but he's going to need the drive and coaching to become the pro bowler that he could be

here's another barometer of how i feel about him based on another recent prospect - i think he has a similar pattern of rushing to derek barnett but with better pure speed - that being said i think barnett had an even better bend and the ability to set up the tackles he went against even better as well as offering instant help in the run game as an edge setter - im also irked a little by the lack of success landry seemed to have overall against better tackles and i think that's probably the best indicator of landry's future production (in year 1 at least) - based off all of that i have a mid-late 1st round grade on him and is my 3rd edge guy on the board behind bradley chubb and marcus davenport and is my 25th player

I think hes a better run defender than Beasley and Williams comming out. Im not sure hed be situational right away. Hes best with his hand in the dirt but i think he does a well enough job of disengaging tackles and diagnosing plays. Hes got strength to hold the edge too, same size as Von Miller and Demarcus Lawrence and benched more reps than both. I dont think hes as a liability as the others and i think he can be a 3 down guy early in his career. Plus if we took him in he wouldnt have to play 80% or more of snaps, he can just start as a rotational guy.

i guess i should have worded it better - i dont think he's never going to figure these things out but i see him at a comparably lower place in his development than some of the guys i mentioned and im not sure he gets on the field early

and the reason he's lower on my board is because of the fit with the ravens personnel in the building - he's not a mind-blowingly overwhelmingly talented talent (in my opinion) which means fit becomes exponentially more important and while im sure he'd impact the ravens defence im not sure he'd see enough snaps in year 1 (and beyond) to justify taking him as a top 16 player - that being said id still grade him outside the top 20 anyway

sometimes it comes down to feel and i when i watch landry i see a lack of (to borrow a voch lombardi scouting term) ass-whoop which i really need to see in a top 20 pass rusher

that being said id be happy for him to prove me wrong as long as he doesnt bite the ravens and i still think he could be a good player im just not sure about the value-fit - im not saying i wouldnt want him to the ravens at all but i wouldnt want him to the ravens with the first 24 picks in the draft for sure...

If you watch Vochs breakdown youll see plenty of ass whoop lol.

i just did - he mentioned ass whoop once (which is what reminded me lol) but if you watch voch talk about the pass rushers last year or a guy like davenport (even though voch says he likes landry moore) you can see that there's a level of violent dominance on the film of other highly rated guys that landry doesnt have - he's good and maybe could be great but he's not obviously dominant

Ya i agree, but Landry overwhelms people with his first step and bend which can be attributed to ass whoop. That rep vs the Wake forest tackle is just filthy. His bend is one of the best ive seen in a long time, hes up there with Barnett yet i think he may be more athletic than Barnett.

Davenport is so freakish to me, hes basically Myles Garrett who got poor coaching and played in a shit conference. Otherwise he looks the part and might be unblockable 1 on 1.

that wake forest tackle was absolutely awful and i think its important to note that he struggled against some of the better opponents he faced - it's a good rep but against an awful tackle - his bend is the best in the class but i think both barnett and timmy probably had better bends than him from last year's class - and i wouldnt say he's necessarily more athletic straight up than barnett on tape - he's quicker but barnett is a lot stronger and more physical and more violent at first contact

im not saying landry wont be good but im saying i dont see him amongst the cream of the class - but hey put him in a good situation in a wide even front or a 3-4/4-3 hybrid where he gets the opportunity to come in on obvious passing downs and work his way in from there with lots of early snap opportunities and i think its perfectly likely that he will succeed - weirdly i think he might be a better fit in a 4-3 despite but seems to have the athleticism and body type more of a 3-4 olb but i would want his hand in the ground as much as possible

i was late to davenport but i really like what i see from him - he's so raw but already undeniably an incredibly high ceiling talent

If he’s there I’m sure he’ll take him. Problem is we aren’t trading up and possibly trading back. I’m afraid the Cards want him as well.

im starting to think that there's teams higher up that are gonna splash on a wr - maybe the niners or bears or bucs in the top 10 take him - as much as all the mocks suggest he'll be there at 16 im not convinced he will be

I agree. I think he could go earlier than 16 and I don’t see Ozzie trading up at all.

I hope we trade back. More fun to watch the draft when we have more picks lol
Id like that too but with the amount of QBs bound to go high we really should keep that 16th pick thinking someone will fall to us or we just get a QB ourselves. There isnt much difference between picks 22 and 52.... i wouldnt mind a nice haul but im not sure hiw much wed get in return for the 16th pick, especially if a blue chip prospect is still avaialable

i mean we're not going to be a team that pre-trades - we'll get on the clock at 16 and then we'll move or not move based on the options

I had a dream last night that Ozzie selected Ridley in the 1st.
I had a dream that we selected Ronnie Stanley before the draft and that happened. Im not sure I was happy then but im happy now lol (admit i wasnt a huge fan of Stanley at first).

I had a dream last year but cant really remember it much maybe it was Humphrey but idk, I do remember a dream of is losing to Pittsburg by 1 point and.....that happened...
