Joe Flacco

The offensive line is giving up a pressure like 25% of the time and ranks in the top 10 according to Football Outsiders. They gave Flacco a clean pocket on 30 of 36 drop backs. Can't really complain with that. Shoot, we all saw how well Stanley locked up Clowney when Stanley came back in after the injury scare. This offensive line is much better than they're given credit for.

Maclin being similar to Wallace was a big reason that I wanted Decker instead and I think that the Ravens will likely look to avoid a Deion Cain type receiver in the draft, but I think Courtland Sutton will absolutely be in play for the Ravens.
Clowney locked up? You mean the guy talked about in this article from Aaron Wilson? smh....... wowzer.

And the only reason the stats shake out the way they do is because of the vanilla, dump off play calling that has been implemented to hide the inadequacy of the protection. All you have to do is watch the games to see the truth.

Not defending Flacco’s poor play, but this is just more fake news.

Not saying the oline is bad it’s just been soft up the middle despite Jensen which has meant a lot of pockets collapsing right into flacco - Stanley was great in the passing game vs clowney but in the first half especially the rest of the line was being victimised

I’ll give the oline credit for being well above expectation given the injuries but the nature and position of the injuries has made running/pass protecting a little tricky at times

I wanted Maclin just because he’s a better player than decker at this point in their careers but decker would have been the better complementary short term option certainly - it’s one of the reasons I had juju so high on my big board

If you go back and watch the film, clowney split a double team between Stanley and hurst and bossed the running game but 1v1 against Stanley was kept quiet for the remainder of the game - his big play came from shooting past Jensen early on in the game but Stanley did lock him up in the passing game (especially after he came back in the game after the injury scare - I was specifically watching that matchup and the first 2 pass sets he stonewalled clowney and allowed flacco the opportunity to go downfield both times)

No, it's really not fake news because what Clowney did (two tackles for loss in the run game, one sack) were completely null and void from that point on. As I said, Stanley locked up Clowney. I said nothing about anyone else.

Every advanced metric would disagree with this idea especially since Ravens coaches are saying Flacco has time to throw downfield and doesn't, if ESPN is to be believed. I don't remember the commentators name, but he's a good friend of Harbaugh, so I'll tend to believe him on this one rather than someone who calls it fake news to argue with advanced metrics.

Don't be spreading fake news round these parts, sport. It's too much.

I mean, yeah, did we really expect Hurst-Jensen-Skura (later Bowanko-Jensen-Skura) to hold up all night against Clowney? Give credit to the line, though, for making the necessary adjustments to nullify him in the second half. He's been on a tear lately and might be the best front seven player in the league currently.

Definitely kudos to O line and coaches for great adjustment after what looked to be long night for them based on how Clowney was free to wreck the game in 1st quarter.

Cherry picking again. The fake news is the “O line is top 10” and “much better than they are given credit for”. Advanced metrics....... lol

Please post a link to where the Ravens coaches are saying there is time to throw downfield and doesn’t. Maybe I missed that?

Fake news when we don't like it. Cherry picking when we don't like it. When you can back up these claims with stats, we'll talk about fake news.

“In talking to the coaches, they think that Joe [Flacco] has had opportunities to throw it down the field, and just hasn’t spent enough time and energy trying to throw it down the field.” ~ Sean McDonough

I don’t see that quote you reference in the article you linked. Am I missing it?

And please, just watch a game and you can plainly see the situation. To say the Ravens O line is “top 10” is just silly.

It was from the broadcast. Skip to 2:04:00

Oh,ok, got it. Funny you just locked onto that one comment. Did you also hear Sean say 2:03:30 “a lot of the blame is given to Flacco here locally but this receiving crew is underwhelming”. That seems pretty relevant to the situation, wouldn’t you say? Did you also hear Gruden call the Ravens wide receivers “underwhelming “ ?

Again, I’m not defending any form of Flacco’s poor play, but cherry picking, not looking at the whole picture and drawing finite conclusions like you have posted is silly. But no matter, I understand.

What else you said is irrelevant to the discussion we were having.

I know, crazy I would show you the one quote you wanted to see that related to what we were discussing.

This fake news, though. I'll tell you.

lol......right, I understand.
I was talking about the offensive line, provided you with a few different points that prove you have no idea what you're talking about, and you come back about the receivers.

It's really quite pitiful.

I'm watching every offensive play right now and the amount of time Flacco had to throw in this game is actually pretty remarkable in comparison to how people like you make it out to be. Like, this might be one of the cleanest games the offensive line had in pass protection all year, right up there with Oakland.

Yeah, it seemed most of the issues with Clowney were when he lined up at LB behind the line. He’s a quick and powerful dude and I would hate to face him with a healthy Watt in there with him.

I watched that sack over again (Clowney at ILB) and there was a good 2.7-3.0 seconds that Joe had to get rid of the ball and didn't. You can't hold the ball that long and not expect someone like Clowney to make a play.
