Joe Flacco

I have also noticed over the years that an unhappy Flacco (when he is basically handing the ball off every down except 3rd and long) plays like shit. Marty is Cam all over again. Cam's issue was handcuffing Flacco and Marty is worse.
In 2010-12 though joe looked like he needed to be cut loose, in 2017 joe looks like he needs handcuffs

So, two things stand out for me.

One, the line has been much maligned, but they're doing a pretty damn good job. Two, I'm really surprised by the percent of turnover worthy throws. That means that Flacco isn't making too many bad throws, but when he makes one, it gets punished.

surely it means 9th worst... but maybe not i mean hes also been unlucky in that i can think of at least 3-4 ints that were unfortunate bounces - maybe not great throws but unlucky to be ints

there's also a difference obviously between bad throws and turnover worthy throws - if you over shoot a guy on the sideline or throw a ball that dives into the turf theres not much of an int chance there but its an awful throw...

It means ninth best, but yeah, can't really argue that you can't throw an interception worthy throw if you don't throw near a single person....

that being said he has made some good throws this year but yeah something is disastrously wrong in this offence that never looked explosive but somehow is still worse than the sum of its parts

I hate to see the good throws because they're so few and far between, but you know so damn well that Joe is capable of those throws and he just does not consistently make them.

So we finally have some stats to back up the notion that Flacco is playing terrible, yet apologists will still make excuses for him.

I mean if people who love Flacco and show PFF stats then people talk about how inconsistent PFF is and how it isn't a true measure of a player... But when PFF shows Flacco is playing bad I guess it is a good resource of information.

Call it what you want. The entire offense is playing terrible. There is no 1st round draft pick next season or anybody in this league that the team could ever get that would make this team a manageable offense. The team's record is what it is... 3-3 a middle of the pack team. They have some good qualities and bad qualities. If the Ravens want to get back into the playoffs it is fixing the offense and that boils down to #1 Marty expanding his playbook to allow Flacco and his receivers to make big plays deep down the middle of the field. #2 Flacco needs to trust his o-line better and needs to take more risks downfield to open up the short passing game and run game. #3 and probably the most important is the makeshift o-line needs to play better.

Flacco isn't playing as good as he used to. But he isn't close to being the worst quarterback in the league. You can bring stats into it but 5-6 of those 8 interceptions this year at least were off of fingertips of wide receivers. He has been playing cautious this season by not taking risks downfield as we are normally accustomed to and it reminds me of why the Chiefs hated Alex Smith the past couple years. Overall he has made pretty good decisions in my opinion and of course he will have a bad pass or two but overall most turnovers haven't been his fault.

When you're checking down half the time you shouldn't be throwing many... If Flacco wasn't our qb, our same fanbase would be no where near this kind with his criticism.

Keith Mills said on 98ROCK this morning, since Joe came into the league only Tom and Aaron have more wins.

If stats matter.... this one should too.

In any conversation, would you seriously compare the careers of Flacco, Brady and Rodgers?

That’s irrelevant to what he said. Appreciate that we’ve been able to win that many games with Flacco. Period. Don’t bring any bs into it.

Lmao... What bs did I bring into it?

How many games have we been winning with Flacco recently then? Since he's been asked to "be the man" like those other qbs what has the Ravens success rate been? Brady when he's been on the field hasn't missed the playoffs since 02 or 03 I think and Rodgers hasn't missed the post season since 13 when he was injured week 9. Flacco's playing like shit and has been for a while. When I say that and people bring up some dumb ass numbers or try to blame everyone, but him, they're doing the exact same thing you told me not do... SAYING SOMETHING IRRELEVANT AND BRING BS INTO THE ARGUMENT.

Oh yea... Mark Sanchez has more Championship game appearances than Phillip Rivers and just as many as Matt Ryan. That should count for something... right?

Flacco has been a big reason why we've won so many games, he basically deserves most if not all the credit for our postseason SB run.

With that said wins are not a QB stat, at this point in his career without any of Billicks holdovers he is playing like Kyle Boller.

PFF's grades are a point of contention; it's their advanced metrics that are universally liked.

Against the Bengals, throws high and behind West and it gets intercepted by Vigil. Against the Browns, just a flat out interception. Against the Jaguars, one was unlucky off of Maclin's hands, but the other was just undercut on a poorly advised pass by Jalen Ramsey. Against the Steelers, both were just flat out on Joe. Against the Bears, the Perriman interception was flat out unlucky, but the Chris Moore one was on Flacco on a great play by Fuller.

We can easily say two are unlucky plays off the hands of receivers, but the rest were on Flacco. I suppose we could say four touched his receivers, but two were poor thrown passes (Vigil and Amos interceptions). Four had literally no prayer in being caught by a receiver.

It's really hard for people to want to defend Joe when posts like this are made where someone blatantly ignores the poor play and makes this level of excuses that aren't even remotely true.

I asked this in the Fire Marty thread or at least made this a point, but we heavily criticize Marty, and I can agree that the situation play calling is off, the lack of play action is a tad annoying, and the lack of manufactured touches in space on screens and such to Maclin is a bit annoying, but...

When people say Marty his handcuffing Joe, has anyone actually watched the All-22 to confirm the play calling? Just because Joe doesn't throw deep does not mean that there were not deep routes run in the same way that just because Joe doesn't throw to a receiver doesn't mean that there weren't open receivers.
