Joe Flacco

FWIW, it took Aaron Rodgers three years to replace Farve as GB's starting QB. I know Farve is a three time MVP winner consectutively but he had a string of pretty bad seasons prior to Aarod's arrival and was pretty bad after he come to the scene. It took until the time he finally retired for the Packers to place Aaron Rodgers as their starting QB and he probably could have kept going if he wanted to.
Similar to Peyton Manning in Denver, how do you just bench an absolute legend and one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, especially one that was so heavily revered in Green Bay?

I don't think Joe is even remotely in that class as far as the backlash that the franchise would receive if they decided to move on.

Yeah but the Colts invested a 1st overall pick into Andrew Luck with Peyton having a potentially career threatning injury. I don't think the Colts imagined that Peyton would play that good after the injury. But it's much easier to move on when you have Luck, the fans were upset but it wasn't a difficult decision for the team to make at the time with Luck billed as the best QB prospect in nearly a decade.

Farve was definitely revered in GB but his play did not live up to the standards he set so it must easier to let him go in favor of Aaron Rodgers who the team believed to be more then ready to take over.

I don't think the fan backlash would be as bad as Farve/Manning, but it could be depending on the outcome of the scenario. Remember, Lamar could've legit fell to the 2nd round so if he does not work out and Joe finds a new team and wins a SB then there will be plenty of people who will be upset. I strongly do believe a healthy Joe Flacco can win a team a SB if the pieces are there because let's be honest, this F.O has not really done their part in the last few seasons.

When I referred to Peyton, I was thinking of Denver when his arm was practically falling off. I don't blame the Colts for moving on from Manning; they're were very legitimate concerns as to whether he would be remotely the same quarterback and how much his arm strength would remain. Not to mention he hadn't played in an entire year.

If Joe Flacco went out, had a legendary playoff run, potentially even won a Super Bowl, then no, he's not getting released. But if Joe goes out there, has another so-so season, misses the playoffs, then the backlash is going to be very minor.

He is indeed. He understood that if you get Flacco going on bootlegs he's almost impossible to completely stop. I feel like Marty and Greg have been adapting and we are now playing to the strengths of Joe. They've quietly been really good this year.
This isn't talked enough. For all the shit I gave Marty last year, he's been excellent this year. It feels so weird to me but our OC is actually really good.

Oh alright, I thought you meant when he left the Colts.

I don't think Joe getting released after a so-so season would result in much backlash either, but if he does have some successful years elsewhere that included a SB run, then I do strongly believe the fans will turn on the team, especailly if what ends up holding this team back is QB play.

I think with the way he is now, I do believe that he can take a team who is a "QB away from SB" very far. It's an interesting prediclament because media and fan backlash could turn on the front office and especially Harbaugh if that was to indeed happen.

He's game planned to our strength and to opposing teams weaknesses.

Though I think Joe being at full health with full mobility alongside a competent supporting cast has more to do with it. I don't think Marty has had much to work with the past two seasons and it wouldn't be fully justified to let him go after last year.

FWIW, Aaron was a really good prospect and till this day no one knows how he fell from No.1 to No.24 and Lamar isn't close to the prospect that Aaron was.

I think Joe can stay here for as long as he decides to. The Ravens gave up a 2nd round pick and got Lamar at pick 32 and if there was an opportunity for it, they probably could've waited until their 2nd round pick to take Lamar. It's not like they traded up and give up a future 1st in the process.
It's now almost fashionable to diss Lamar Jackson and his QB worthiness. Just because Flacco has played better than in previous years over a couple of games and the fact that Lamar's packages haven't yielded big plays doesn't mean Lamar is not understanding the system and improving his skill set as a QB. He is not a refined pocket passer at this time surely. But, this kid works extremely hard and is an instinctual football player. He sees the field really well and is a very good decision maker even as a rookie. If Rodgers was universally acclaimed to be that great a prospect he wouldn't have fallen to where he did. I'm not comparing the two but just automatically discounting Lamar's potential because Flacco has played well for a couple of games is a stretch. I'm all for retaining Flacco's services till he is a net benefit to the team, but if he isn't I am totally fine with fielding Lamar Jackson at QB as well.

No one is dissing Lamar. I'm just saying that he's not there yet as an NFL QB and not close to what Aaron Rodgers was coming out. Where did I diss Lamar? Lamar was picked at 32 and the Ravens gave up a 2nd round pick to move up from him. It might have been entirely possible for him to fall to their 2nd round pick. This isn't discounting Lamar, all this is saying is that they're in no rush to put him out on the field. He can take his time and once they feel like he's ready and when Joe isn't as good as they expect, then they can move onto the Lamar Jackson era.

Well, yes, I do think it's a tough position if he does well elsewhere because it would beg the question of why he wasn't doing better here. I don't think the fans would be upset he got released, per se, but I think they'd be very upset that he wasn't doing as well here and would be questioning why he didn't do well.

Well then, maybe I misinterpreted your post. I agree with what you're saying because I feel the same way.

Another fine game from Joe. He could have been well over 400 yds if not for all the drops. Dude is ballin’.

to all those media pundits who feel so sure that flacco hates it when lamar's in the game:

per zrebiec:
Flacco joked to Harbaugh that it was a prime time game so team had to get their first-round rookie QB, Lamar Jackson more involved.

all signs of animosity have all come from outside the building
i know how some people have suggested it gets flacco out of rhythm but im not sure it does really at all - its not like its creating a long delay in the drive and specifically tonight a lot of those lamar plays turned good - and forced the steelers to waste a timeout (in stead of giving up a TD)

Knowing Flacco's nature and personality I totally believe it...

Joe is currently carrying the offense. It's crazy how he's different not just from last year, but the three years prior.

Not crazy at all if you objectively look at the circumstances during those 3 years. Trestman, injuries(Joe and the team), poor receivers, etc., etc. all contributed to a lack of confidence and poor play. One can only imagine how things could be if there were a few years of capable consistency at OC, receiver and TE, basic things most high performing QBs have.

I don’t see any reason to cut or trade Flacco if he keeps it up. Worst case scenario you carry Joe and Lamar next year and can decide to let Joe go the year after or maybe trade Lamar for a bounty of picks or Joe for a bounty. All depends on how both look but Belichick made a career doing this. I’m not getting rid of Joe yet he’s playing too well.
