Joe Flacco

Flacco is the master in the NFL at having just as many good games as he does horrible games to make it so the team doesn't want to get rid of him for an known.

It's going to be awesome how many people are going to back up Flacco after Sundays game that were calling for his head this week when he kicks ass.
I'll give you that, I love joe but goddamn he's frustrating and can really shit the bed sometimes, right in the middle of a stretch of great games he will lay a total shit-caked egg and you're like wut? He does it mid game too, great stretch of efficient and mistake free play, and then suddenly he lobs a goddamn arm-punt into triple coverage with 4 seconds hang time.

This year I definitely think he's looked worse than ever, but it's almost weird how bad he's looked at times, his internal clock(which has never been great) is totally nonexistent this year, he looks like he's laboring to do everything and his mechanics have regressed to a point that I can only chalk it up to the back injury for now.

Joe Flacco is that person who will put the team up 21 points in the third quarter. Then lob two straight interceptions.

I feel like he thinks he has to keep making things interesting. Oh team is 2-0 and smashed the previous opponents gotta keep things interesting and forget what football is in London.

Actually he is due for a kick ass game against the Steelers. He was typically 1 on and 1 off and then went to 1 on and 2 off and now he's perhaps at 1 on and 3-4 off. That's the regression that frustrates me. Its not that Flacco can't be the best QB in the league in a particular week because we all know he can, but the bigger problem is that those games are getting fewer and farther in between to make him a viable option for us.

In fact I fully expect Joe to explode over the next few games and then there will be those sophisticated apologists that are going to talk about his back and lack of preseason having held him back, etc., but then sooner rather than later all those excuses will seem jaded because we'll be back to square one with Joe. I have come to believe that is who Joe Flacco is and either we accept him and our mediocrity as a team for the next few years or we figure out a way around it.

I have 2 potential options here. One is play Flacco till such time he starts playing really poorly and then pull him out and put Mallet in. Two, figure out a team that may be willing to trade for him now, play Mallet the rest of the season, finish up near the bottom of the league (which is possible in either scenario) and then draft the best QB in the 2018 draft and go from there.

Salary cap would prohibit a trade or cut. No way we could take on the guaranteed money that would be accelerated. The soonest I could see him gone would be 2018 and more realistically 2019.

Honestly, I just want him to completely ball out this week. Like I seriously want him to put up a big game.
I honestly doubt it at this point. I can't say I've fully turned my back on Joe, but we'd be foolish if we didn't start looking for a QB of the future soon. Given that other than the oline we don't have many needs next offseason would be ideal for that to work.

Well if winning football games and doing well is what matters to the Ravens, they need to figure out a way to get it done.

If there was a valid way to do it, we would have done it by now. Hell, I can guarentee you some teams would trade a good amount for him thinking they can rehabilitate him(look at the niners. They can afford his cap hit, still have enough to reload the oline, and he's played in a scheme he's excelled in before given that Shannahan is a successful Kubiak disciple. We could get a sizeable haul from them in all likelihood. We're the problem: not them. And there's no other way to fix it because whoever negotiates and writes out our contracts(it isn't Ozzie btw. So this isn't really on him) NEEDS TO BE FIRED. HES A FUCKING IDIOT. These backloaded deals and overpays have killed us. That's killed us far more than any of these bad drafts.

We've been rebuilding if you haven't noticed. Front seven drastically changed, secondary changed, WR corps changed. Literally, we need an oline, and a bell cow running back(And the ability to stay healthy. Which has killed this team over the past several seasons), and we're contenders again. I'm still of the belief that if we give Joe a good running game, then the offense will be adaquate again, which is all we really need besides staying healthy.

And yes. The running game has been nonexistent since Kubiak left. There is no coincidence that Flacco's successful seasons have come when we have a strong running game present, and Flacco's worst seasons have been when we don't have a running game. Sure, his accuracy and mechanics need to be ressurected, but if we can fix this issues I think we're golden.

We may appear to be screwed in the short term(injuries do that to a team), but long term wise we've set ourselves up quite nicely.

I might write an article on it soon. Who knows.

As it stands right now, Joe Flacco ranks 34th (meaning two backups are better) in yards per game, 32nd in yard per pass among QBs with at least 70 attempts (5.5 yard per attempt), and 27th in completion percentage among QBs with at least 70 attempts (60.1). His passer rating, if you put stock into such things, is 65, good for 38th.

Yard per game is somewhat forgivable because of how much we've ran the ball. What worries me is the 5.5 yards per attempt. That's a shit number. I'm not sure if it's Flacco being ass, Marty fucking up, or a mixture, but there's a big problem here. Flacco, by definition, is the least efficient starting QB in the NFL right now. There is no reason for that.

Not defending his poor play, but how many of the other QBs in the NFL had 0 reps in OTAs and training camp? Just think everyone needs to keep things in perspective.

Normally, I would give this credence, but when Jay Cutler, DeShone Kizer, Josh McCown, Jameis Winston, and Scott Tolzien are all more efficient passers than Flacco -- a former Super Bowl MVP -- there's a problem.

Duly noted. Also take into account the total team meltdown in merry ole England and I think you see the point.

This is something I've been hollering about for a long time and its not only overpaying but the constant restructures that keep us in cap hell. How can you sign a guy (B Will) have a soft hit in the 1st year and already restructure. Ozzie I think is good at drafting but we have a cap specialist (cant think of his name) that is saying this shit is allright.

Not sure about this, but could it be Pat Moriarty who writes the contracts?

I agree with @Lost_In_Translation. I haven't fully given up on Joe, but believe we need to start looking for a qb. That's said, it doesn't mean the new qb should start year one. They could be second string behind Joe for a year or two. We could find a way at the end of 2018 and it would be easier in 2019.

This is the draft to find a new qb also.

We gonna have to do this anyway since I don't believe Joe is gonna play a lot more years anyway. He just doesn't seem to be the type. I'm also not scared about using a 1st.
