And while I agree Woodrum looked really good... calm in the pocket, incredibly accurate at all levels putting the ball in the right spot consistently, and great improvisational ability avoiding pressure and keeping eyes down field -- cant anoint him as anything yet.
Theres a reason hes on his 5th team and never even made it to a preseason game before now.
He does deserve some reps with the 1st team imo, whether in practice or in the next game... but we've only seen him later in preseason games against scrubs. And i know the retort that -- "well hes playing with scrubs too.... 3rd string weapons and OL!"
But one of my biggest takeaways from the preseason thus far has been that we are DEEP. Our depth is the reason that last 2 games have been so lopsided. Somewhat close games early were blowouts by the time the 2nd/3rd stringers were playing, and our guys have made the Redskins/Dolphins backups look like they dont belong.
So... its been clear to me that Woodrum was playing with better talent than they were facing. And our backups on D have destroyed the backup offensive players theyve faced. Not knocking him, he played great and deserves an opportunity to at least compete.
But thats been my most clear takeaway from preseason so far. We're going to have to cut some quality players. We've got NFL talent almost top to bottom across the board. Which is definitely a big strength. We just need to get our starters healthy so our 1st string can compete better too... but that should be a big advantage for us late in games, and especially late in the season when teams/players are exhausted and banged up.
