Preseason Game Two Recap

Edgar

Ravens Ring of Honor
I have to say I was pretty disappointed by Judon. A lot of plays were extended because the outside pressure was non existent and that responsibility is a lot on him imo. He didn't win enough battles around the edge.
Not sure about him throughout as I've not watched him closely but he wins early against dolphins RT. Tackle is called for a hold on what is certain to have been a sack.
He also, now that I'm remembering, had a nice pass deflection on a third down pressure that nearly causes a turnover.

Mallet is complete ass. That is all.
Did not get to see the entire game, but I saw Mallet's part and I agree. The problem is that the FO will STILL keep him as the back-up. So everyone better hope Flacco is back for the regular season and doesn't show all that rust like when he first came back from injury.

I agree Woodrum looked good over the last two games but I dont know if junk preseason snaps projects to the regular season.

Have not seen the win you mention, but it's reassuring to hear that. The deflection is nice of course but it won't happen a lot, he didn't really pressure the QB on the play. More like the QB threw it too close to him than him being in the QB's face and being able to disrupt the pass as a result. There's really no alarm signal yet, he was good against the run and his play in coverage is interesting, I wasn't expecting more than 8 sacks anyway, but a little more capitalizing on all those QB escaping the inside push would help forget all the bad plays I've noticed in the first quarter.

LIVING IN CALIFORNIA SUCKS HARDER THAN A PORN STAR.

Couldn't see the game. What happened? Who looked good? Who looked bad? Who did SepticEyePoe piss off this time? Is Andrew to blame?
Stream them. I live in PA so i only get Ravens on TV when its a national game... but i still see every game.

PM me if you need the hook up.

Well he only played 2 possessions and if I'm not mistaken had a fair number of plays called back for flags that had little to no impact
Judon had Cutler dead to rights until he was held, and that was the one big passing play.

And a hold sprung their one big run.

Maybe Cutler shakes Judon off and maybe our tackler doesnt get the ball carrier down.... but id say its just as likely if not more likely that those penalties were the reason for the big plays than it being our D was bailed out by the flags.

And there was another one of their 15+ yd passing plays where Carr was in coverage that on the replay it was clear both our CB's were picked out of coverage and that's how i believe Parker got open to make the comeback grab.

All that side though, our DL didnt get quite as much pressure as i had hoped and we were soft in coverage on a few too many occasions that led to easy completions for 1st downs.

carr is not a good cb, so lets hope marlon can develop and start over him! Mallet is terrible, like ive been saying all offseason. its only preseason, but our defense still looks like theyre having tackling issues! Our coaching staff and along with OC as you can tell have been drawing up plays to keep our oline from looking like trash! Woodrum looks like he can be a decent backup! I love that we have players now that can get YAC! depending on flacco's play we should be able to win aminimum of 8!
I think a lot of the tackling issues and sloppy play can be attributed to that field.

So many plays where RB's, WR's, CB's and would be tacklers lost their footing and couldnt make the play.

I found it very tough to analyze a lot of things bc of that field. Was absolutely horrible and both sides struggled so bad with it, tough to tell what plays would have been made on a regular field and how many positive plays were result of a defender slipping.

And while I agree Woodrum looked really good... calm in the pocket, incredibly accurate at all levels putting the ball in the right spot consistently, and great improvisational ability avoiding pressure and keeping eyes down field -- cant anoint him as anything yet.

Theres a reason hes on his 5th team and never even made it to a preseason game before now.

He does deserve some reps with the 1st team imo, whether in practice or in the next game... but we've only seen him later in preseason games against scrubs. And i know the retort that -- "well hes playing with scrubs too.... 3rd string weapons and OL!"

But one of my biggest takeaways from the preseason thus far has been that we are DEEP. Our depth is the reason that last 2 games have been so lopsided. Somewhat close games early were blowouts by the time the 2nd/3rd stringers were playing, and our guys have made the Redskins/Dolphins backups look like they dont belong.

So... its been clear to me that Woodrum was playing with better talent than they were facing. And our backups on D have destroyed the backup offensive players theyve faced. Not knocking him, he played great and deserves an opportunity to at least compete.

But thats been my most clear takeaway from preseason so far. We're going to have to cut some quality players. We've got NFL talent almost top to bottom across the board. Which is definitely a big strength. We just need to get our starters healthy so our 1st string can compete better too... but that should be a big advantage for us late in games, and especially late in the season when teams/players are exhausted and banged up.

Don't worry. Luckily, we'll be playing the Bengals and he always seems to do well against them... You better pray the defense brings their A game. Hopefully the starting OL will have some kind of rhythm by then. It wouldn't surprise me if Joe has been ready to play, but Harbaugh doesn't want him behind the current group in preseason.

Until we get an upgrade at LG and that doesnt mean zuttah being at C and Jensen at LG, this O will struggle. My suggestion if that doesnt transpire is this

Stanley, Howard, Jensen, Yanda, Hurst

On board with that. Looks like the most obvious yet best way to assemble the OL. I'd actually consider this OL strong.

While it's nice that we have depth, as reflected in the score, I was worried about what I saw when both sets of starters were playing. Our D Line didn't get any penetration and our O Line struggled to stop Miami penetrating. Howard struggled and Skura didn't look ready.

Mallett looked awful again and I get the feeling he'll be playing the first few regular season games. Woodrum was much better, again.

He was only targeted about twice but Carr reminded me of Sharice Wright in that he wasn't a factor either time. Jaylen Hill looks a real find and will be starting ahead of Carr unless he improves.

More positively, Max and Tim Williams, Buck Allen, Zadarius Smith and Larry Donnell all looked better this week and our special teams are going to be great again.

Gotta give woodrum some first team reps next preseason game. Also Tim Williams looks a bit overweight. Thinking he tried to add size for the NFL and just got a little fat. I loved the sack but he's still not flying off the ball. Btw Barnett DROY

Barnett was the guy i wanted in the draft.
Tim williams weight gain was the coaches decision.

I think Carr will be fine.... the one bigger completion he gave up he was picked out of the play by another Dolphins WR.

Other than that play i think he only gave up 1 other completion and it was like an 8-10 yd comeback route. Thats hard to defend 1on1 especially if the QB gets the ball out on time.

I think the field conditions gave the offense a huge advantage. Bending the edge isn't even an option in those conditions, lateral moves on the DL as well, however it is still easy to anchor down as an OL and it becomes easier when the field conditions turn everything into a bullrush and you have to worry less about sidesteps. For the secondary and LBs you can't break downhill on passes as quickly, making it difficult to play successful zone coverage.

I think the field conditions had a lot to do with our defensive performance, it was just not favorable.

How did KC look to you guys? I just remember 2 plays,
The one where he slipped on the grass and miss tackle on the RB and the one where he blew up the ZB run.
So 1 good and 1 bad haha
