The WR Thread

welp, there it is lol.

i get the love affair with the late riser/hometown kid, hard not to jump on that train, but i stay level headed here and keep hype out of it. i wish i could find the comeback route that ridley ran that basically sealed the deal for me, it was the single most impressive piece of route running ive ever seen from ANY wr, college or pros, and ive watched probably more wrs than any position come draft season(except for maybe edge rushers, theyre usually my favorite position to scout)
Yes, I agree that Ridley is the top wr in this class and everything you said above in your previous post was spot on.

I think the consensus is that if Ridley is there, we take him over Moore. But what if he's not? All the mocks aside, I just don't see RIdley being there for us.

Is Moore worthy of our first selection? Especially if McGlinchey is gone. Would we be willing to take him there.

Yeah no doubt, it’s gonna be just like last year. We think we will have the top WRs to choose from, or at least one, and boom. They’re taken earlier than everyone expects.

I wouldn’t throw a fit over drafting Moore if Ridley and the top Olineman are gone. But I’d much rather draft Wynn or Hernandez if we are gonna reach a little.

If Ridley and Mcglinchey are gone than theres gonna be a defender there thats just simply too good to pass up. Like Decosta said the majority of the top 25 are defensive players so if you count in the 4 QBs likely to go in the top 15 and Barkley, Nelson, Ridley, and McGlinchey theres only 7 picks till us with Chubb, Fitzpatrick, James, Smith, Ward(I like Oliver better but whatever), Edmunds, Payne, and Vea. And i do expect one of either Payne and Vea get picked before we do. Im not sure Wynn or Hernandez are better than any of those guys. And neither of them could handle Payne or Vea consistently one on one.

or we find a trade partner to trade up for one of those defensive tackles to try and jump ahead of the chargers and then take our pick of the sweet spot for the next tier of offensive players

He'd be worth it but probably not the BPA.

This is something I agree with wholeheartedly. I believe you're only getting a taste of how good Ridley can be based on his college film.
Thinking he's simply a high floor guy as some have is, I believe, selling him short.
yeah his level of route running savvy and physical ability to execute routes flawlessly, along with his instant acceleration, elite tracking and body adjustments, and far above average top speed, all scream elite 80-catch per year guy. hes the only guy in this draft class who can work every level of the field consistently and can do it in any system. you put him on nearly any team he could play 1, 2, or 3(aside from the teams with absolutely dominant 1s like the falcons and texans), and he would produce big time numbers. he can work the short crossers, speed based routes, timing based routes, stop and go routes, deep breaking routes, fly routes, posts, fades, seams, comebacks, the 10 yard range, the 20 yard range, the 25+ range for big chunk plays, YAC based plays(possibly his most underappreciated talent, he may be the best YAC wr in the class as well).

i just dont get how people are saying "hes a 2, its his ceiling, which hes already at" thats just objectively false. i think 105.7 is really selling this too much, ravens fans now truly believe ridley is some bum, who ozzie is bound to draft "cos bama lul" thanks to these fuckheads, especially vinny cerrato. the madness must end! ridley is unquestionably the best wr in this class, and if he played for, say, OKST, or oklahoma, or UCLA, hed be a top 5 lock to media and fans alike

Vinny Cerrato is a bum and has no business giving his opinion on the local airwaves. He was the one who offered 2 1st round picks for Chad Johnson when he was 31 or 32 years old back in 2008. He didn't like Humphrey last year and didn't think he could cover at all and totally tried to back out of his comments during the season as well.

I dont understand why i cant call Dante Pettis a poor mans Calvin Ridley? Pettis can run the entire route tree and has sure reliable hands. Their both basically the same size to boot

Because the main stream draft people on twitter aren't high on him would be my guess.

Pettis would be a great pickup round 3

pettis had a majority of his success on sluggo routes, i dont know where you get the entire route tree from, considering he isnt nearly as explosive or shifty as ridley and doesnt have anywhere near the stop-and-go ability, and also his double catching and struggles to catch in traffic would also argue against your point that he can run the whole route tree along with the sure and reliable hands. his awareness seems to be lacking a bit, as he doesnt work depth and soft spots very well, doesnt work the sideline well either. hes a fluid athlete and moderately lengthy guy with good(not great) top speed and average explosiveness/suddenness and is above average at best in every other regard. he isnt exactly comparable to calvin ridley who has an NFL veterans level of savvy and understanding of how to succeed at the wr position, and absolutely elite ability to change direction to execute routes, along with elite awareness to position himself well and great ball tracking and body adjustment all of which he uses to make catches in and out of traffic all over the field.

plus, ridleys YAC game is far superior, which says a lot considering pettis is the top return man in the nation.

just finished watching michael gallup - he is consistently deadly and deadly consistent at the slant route, as well as being very effective at the backshoulder/comeback hybrid routes that go about 10-15 yards

he's obviously dangerous after the catch and anticipates defenders angles well so is great at screens (not sure how that helps the ravens lol) but he's an aggressive receiver who attacks everything which is helpful when you are trying to build a vertical offence - his measurables are good if not great but he has a great feel for the space in the defence which allows him to better use his quickness and speed etc. even if it doesnt stand out as elite...

its a tough grade because he doesnt stand out as elite in any particular category of evaluation but he also doesnt have a huge number of weaknesses despite being seemingly quite raw

He's one of my favorite receivers in this draft class and one that may be there for us at 52, but feel he will be gone prior to our 3rd round pick. Gallop had some pretty terrible QB play as well and that's an understatement.
