The WR Thread

pettis had a majority of his success on sluggo routes, i dont know where you get the entire route tree from, considering he isnt nearly as explosive or shifty as ridley and doesnt have anywhere near the stop-and-go ability, and also his double catching and struggles to catch in traffic would also argue against your point that he can run the whole route tree along with the sure and reliable hands. his awareness seems to be lacking a bit, as he doesnt work depth and soft spots very well, doesnt work the sideline well either. hes a fluid athlete and moderately lengthy guy with good(not great) top speed and average explosiveness/suddenness and is above average at best in every other regard. he isnt exactly comparable to calvin ridley who has an NFL veterans level of savvy and understanding of how to succeed at the wr position, and absolutely elite ability to change direction to execute routes, along with elite awareness to position himself well and great ball tracking and body adjustment all of which he uses to make catches in and out of traffic all over the field.

plus, ridleys YAC game is far superior, which says a lot considering pettis is the top return man in the nation.
I think your discrediting Pettis as an athlete. He has the ability and hea shown it with his punt return prowess. Hes also better at finding the soft spots and working the sidelines (not sure about toe tap) but Browning really struggled with his accuracy this season to match with his noodle like arm.

ridley is as sharp and crisp and explosive in his cuts as anybody in the NFL, Pettis isn't in th same universe there.

And Nobody can use the qb excuse more than Ridley

I've never felt comfortable with my assessment of James Washington. I just can't seem to get a handle on him.
It strikes me that he would absolutely kill it with the Steelers.

to me he seems like someone who would kill it with the Rams, Eagles or maybe the Bucs or Vikings - those systems would seem like good fits to me - he'd probably also do well with the cowboys (if prescott doesnt nosedive their receiving play again with awful accuracy), the panthers would be a nice fit if they continue their offensive transition well and I would have said the chiefs but i think he wouldnt see the field

he'd probably do well with the steelers but i think there are better fits elsewhere - tbh i probably think he'd fit better with the ravens than the steelers

I stand by my ratings done long time ago

1. Ridley
2. Washington
3. everybody else

Courtland Sutton worked with Boldin in the offseason. I like Sutton a lot, i think he has great potential, i just wish he was more physical at the catchpoint. Hopefully Boldin taught him some tricks. I love Sutton as a person and athlete but i dont love the fact that hes the most inconsistent reciever in this class. He makes some crazy NFL type catches, even understands the little things like toe drags already. Im just so worried hes gonna be a bust but then again he could end up being the biggest steal in the draft, even as a 1st round pick.

I will say this. Hes got more potential than Treadwell did comming out and everyone loved him

I'd like to say he's a better fit here than in Pittsburgh but I don't see it the same. Joe is so erratic downfield anymore.

I'm really impressed watching him catch the ball during this predraft period. Ball just appears to be being coerced into his hands. Absolutely snatches it.

I'm curious to see whether the Ravens being him in or not.

4. Christian Kirk
5. Courtland Sutton

I dont think they will. Hes been mentioned as one of the top WR prospects since last year so im sure theyve already done all their research on him. No questioning his character either so im sure they have a good feel of him

Hope to hear ravens have a meeting with Anthony miller at his pro day or something. Give me hope!

just finished watching michael gallup - he is consistently deadly and deadly consistent at the slant route, as well as being very effective at the backshoulder/comeback hybrid routes that go about 10-15 yards

he's obviously dangerous after the catch and anticipates defenders angles well so is great at screens (not sure how that helps the ravens lol) but he's an aggressive receiver who attacks everything which is helpful when you are trying to build a vertical offence - his measurables are good if not great but he has a great feel for the space in the defence which allows him to better use his quickness and speed etc. even if it doesnt stand out as elite...

its a tough grade because he doesnt stand out as elite in any particular category of evaluation but he also doesnt have a huge number of weaknesses despite being seemingly quite raw
Gallup is pretty underrated imo. He does everything well. I wouldn’t mind if we took him in the 2nd even. Or maybe traded back a little and took him. I think he’s a pretty safe prospect too. Which we need.
