The Good, the Bad, and the Browns: Week 2 Edition

so our 2 starting guards, 2 backup guards have all gone down for the year (or retired) before week 3 of the regular season

Really?

Relax man. Don't let this game force emotions on you like this.
You don't need this.
How can I not be angry? First off, we should have NEVER put ourselves in the position for Lewis to be the starting LG last season. He was, at best, a horrible run blocker and decent pass blocker. We clearly needed a big upgrade: nothing. We let Wagner walk in FA, and got a clear downgrade in Howard to replace him. We had the opportunity to let Williams walk to go get Warford to be a big upgrade: NOTHING, LETS RESIGN THE ONE DIMENSIONAL NT. We could trade up with our first 3rd round pick to get Elflein? Nope. Nothing.

Ozzie has done one thing to fix our oline woes of the last three years: He drafted Stanley, which was great. But what has he done since then: NOTHING.

WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THIS POSITION. If Ozzie gave a damn about the oline as much as he does the dline, we'd be fine. It'd still be a big loss, but we'd have depth.

I've been saying it all year. The oline is going to be death of us. Not addressing it was foolish, and could ruin our season. And look what happened. Our best player on offense goes down for the year, the same year we play great defense such as Jacksonville, Texans, Titans, and Oakland. Flacco is going to get KILLED. Sure, we looked good today, but the Browns' defense is mediocre. We won't be as lucky next time. Calias Campbell is going to murder us all by himself.

I cannot be anything but pissed off right now. Ozzie ignoring the oline was the dumbest thing he could of done, and he looks even more moronic for ti now. Screw him, and screw his job. I want a GM who actually gives a damn about protecting Joe and establishing a running game.

But knowing him, we'll just reload on the defense again because Flacco is fucking superman in his eyes.

Smh.

Joe played well today. I am particularly pleased with our backs - all my bitching since preseason seems to have worked. If only O line can play with more consistency.

Perriman was terrible again. Dropped easy pass and vanished after that. He just can't get open, it seems. Wallace might have been even worse than Breshad.

Happy with 4 picks again but I think that number is misleading - there were some bad breakages in our secondary all game.

Sizzle is a living legend.

Joe admitted after the game that he missed plenty of times downfield and was very upset about it. I don't think he was happy at all with how he played today. I think the chemistry and timing between Joe and Perriman/Wallace is as bad as its ever been and they're going to need more time to improve.

The Good: DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE

The Bad: Ravens offense went 1/6 on 3rd down conversions at one point! Trash!

The Ugly: Yanda's season-ending injury because.....NOW WHAT? Damn!

Can't fix everything in one off season... The good news is there aren't really holes on defense so he can focus ALL his attention on offense this year. And the moves on defense have paid off so far.

I agree but how are they going to improve now that Yanda is finished when they could barely air it out for TD's with him?

I just want to see our WR's be off to the races for TD's after a Flacco pass like those steelers receivers do after a Big Ben pass sometimes. I love their aggressiveness in wanting to score after a catch. Is that too much to ask for from Flacco, Maclin, Wallace, Perriman and our TE's? All of these so-called "weapons" and we barely see them do anything remotely close to what I just mentioned.

How can I not be angry?.

Very easily.
Realize how this *should* and *should not* affect you.
Realize this will not mean jack shit this time next year. It will not mean jack shit in five years. It will not mean jack shit in ten years. This does not affect you one single bit. This does nothing to you or your own well being.
You will wake up tomorrow morning and your life will go on as it usually does.
You are giving this GAME far, far, far too much power and control over your emotions.

So let me ask you then. Give me one legitimate reason why it is justifiable to be this angry.
It is just a game. It is just a few hours out of one single day in your week. It has nothing to do with you whatsoever.

That's two weeks in a row we haven't been able to score a touchdown in the 2nd half. I don't mind them trying to run the clock after halftime, but we have to do better than 2 field goals in 4 quarters of play.

Is that you, Dr. Phil?!?

In my opinion with most teams as long as we maintain a two ( preferably three ) possession lead we can go ahead and sit down at the game clock cafe.

No, just some guy who used to get emotionally wound up in football games in the past.
Took a horrid loss out on my family one time and learned a valuable lesson.

My emotions are worth more than that to be manipulated by a football game I have no control over whatsoever.

It's a major shift in game plan and we've set a standard that defenses have to respect from here on out. If we have a lead at halftime, defenses first plan is to respect the run, which opens up the playbook.

In the event that the game is too close for comfort, we now have the advantage that defenses are selling out to stop the run, we can open up the play action to attempt to widen the lead.

If it really comes down to it, I don't think we're gonna just run the ball with no effectiveness in a close game. We're sticking to a game plan based on the situation, and it's showing a tendency which we can use to exploit defenses in the future.

Sadly, i feel next week we'll probably lose one or two of our main defensive stars

harbaugh '' we aint giving up, we believe in god''

:/ brainwashed

But but but...Ozzie should've prepared for that

Or something
Oh don't give me that shit Ludy. Lewis sucked at LG last season and upgrading him should have been a massive priority and then we'd likely have some depth. We could have easily let Williams go(look. The dline still played relatively well without him against a really good offensive line) and have signed Leary, and/or Warford, two above average guards who went for a reasonable price, and are scheme fits, instead of overloading on the defense. we'd be fucked still with Yanda gone, but less so. We should have never been this position anyway with regards to depth. Sure, we can't control the injuries, but we still should have addressed the damn problem earlier in the offseason. Even with Urschel, Siragusa, and Lewis, the depth was still very questionable along the interior. ESPECIALLY with Jensen becoming a starter. Not to mention, there's a solid option on the FA market in Greco, who we haven't even taken a look at. The oline has been a massive problem 3/4 seasons, and the only damn thing we did to fix the problem was draft Stanley(which admittedly was great). So don't give me the shit of "we should have prepared better" and be smug and sarcastic. This has been a problem for 3/4 years. We had an opportunity to get a solid option this season to help out, and WE DID NOTHING. The entire plan is the invest on defense this offseason, and likely invest on offense next season. WHICH IS STUPID. Without Yanda, Flacco is far more likley to get hurt. This two year plan immediate fails the moment he goes down with an injury. Which I apparently am the only one who sees this OBVIOUS FLAW. Things are suddenly made a hell of a lot worse when he's coming off of a back injury, and has to play the likes of James Harrison, JJ Watt, Clowney, Campbell, Atikins, Merculis, Garrett(eventually), Mack, Orakpo, Morgan, and others. This is NOT going to be easy on Joe's back at all. We have to play some really good defenses, and we KNEW that we were going to play most of these teams, just not the order because the NFL follows a pattern schedule wise. (Next season we play the Saints, Falcons, Bucs, Panthers, Chargers, Denver, Oakland, Kansas City, and the Chargers plus our division if my memory serves me correct). Yet, we were complacent and did nothing.

Not happy. We should have not only been fixing this problem this offseason, but have done more in off seasons prior.

This is inexcusable.

Hope Yanda doesn't fall off a cliff next offseason.
