While this statement is true. I have to criticize the plan itself if that's the case. If the plan is load up over a two year period of time to build a contender, then the oline should have been the first thing they addressed. Again, this plan falls flat on its face if Flacco gets injured in any capacity. And now the oline is more likely to give up sacks, and get Joe killed. Our franchise QB cannot afford another season ending injury. It doesn't help that the running game is also to likely suffer big time. The Browns have a mediocre defense. Not nearly as good as some of the defenses we play later on this season. It'd be one thing if we had another good guard on the oline. The injury would suck still, but it wouldn't be nearly as impactful.

I just hope Flacco somehow makes it through this season healthy for next season. So that way the (stupid) plan actually has a chance to work.
 
People keep talking about the plan as though it was intentional instead of a decision to not spend money on below average talent. There was no Jefferson or Woodhead of the OLine to get in free agency.

Again, you're wrong. If we didn't keep Williams for that absurd price we paid him, we could have had our picking of any of the following.
TJ Lang
Ronald Leary
Larry Warford
Hell, we could've paid Zeitler money if we really wanted to.

Sure, not a lot of options, but enough for us to go make a play. We could've EASILY come out of that one with of them if we didn't decide to pursue Williams instead.

And we paid damn good money for Jefferson(which at least looks like it's well spent at this point), so don't give me the "we don't spend money in FA" crap. We had a need. Along with pass rush last offseason, oline was clearly the biggest need. And what did we do about it? NOTHING. FUCKING NOTHING.

Considering our passing game is just a bunch of dink and dunk shit they'll be fine. It's the running game I'm more concerned about. We're not going to be some high flying offense and we weren't going to even with yanda. Ozzie went defense because he knows that's what's going to win them games. They're 2-0 because of the defense not flacco. Will Yanda's loss hurt them? Yeah but a lot of the teams on the schedule have pretty average defenses. Honestly there's maybe two complete defenses on the schedule that scare me and both have complete and utter disasters for offenses.

Along with Pittsburgh who always plays us tough on defense
The Bengals have a good defense(it's not our fault that their oline is even worse than ours)
And the Browns, who always play us tough.


That's four huge problems I see in the first five names, and 3 potential super close games where we are going to need a run game to stay competitve. That's 9 teams, and 8 games. None are gonna be easy. And btw, the pass rushers we face? Mack, Orakpo, Casey, Morgan, Watt, Clowney, Merculis, Fowler, Campbell, Atkins, Garrett, Harrison(who may be old but always gives us trouble), Dunlap, Griffin, Hunter, Ansah with Detriot(who was hurt last year hence lack of production), Cameron Wake.

Sorry. Not looking good here. We do play some average defenses, but we have a massive uphill battle.

Oakland has a pretty average defense honestly. I mean we were pretty damn close to beating them with Hurst at LT. It's their offense that should be worrying. Jax has Blake fucking Bortles at QB. Houston has no idea who their QB is. Vikings looked good against a really mediocre saints team. There's going to be tough games but this is the NFL. There really aren't easy victories.
 
We paid below market value for top 5 at his position and above market value for the howngrown anchor of our front 7. That is not overpaying for average talent that is either on its last legs or isn't worth the money.

And besides we are fans of the Baltimore Ravens, a team that doesn't believe in easy victories. We should know this by now lol.

Oakland has a one man wrecking ball in Mack who even Stanley at his best is going to have a hard time with. Jacksonville may have Bortles, but that front 7 is going to obliterate our oline worse than our front 7 is going to take out there's. Vikings have two great rushers in Griffin and Hunter with a great defensive mind as HC. Wouldn't be surprised if we lost all 3
 
It seems like Perriman is shaping up to be a true bust. And Wallace is looking like he either doesn't know WTF he is doing or is just giving up at times. Our "crack WR" group is shaping up to be our WR crew on crack lol, save for Maclin.

Thats because the offense isn't an offense that is going to attack with wide receivers. Joe is pretty much going to go to the TEs and RBs way more than any wideout. Maclin only had like 35 yards. This is basically a chiefs esque offense.

No, we gave Jefferson a fair shake. It's slightly less than what Earl Thomas got, but still a lot money. We overpaid Williams and it's obvious. He's a one dimensional player who's at best a limited pass rusher. NOT WORTH WHAT WE PAID HIM FOR. Our depth was more than capable of replacing his production as a run stuffer, and he wasn't really on the field as a pass rusher anyway so that's moot.

And none of those olinemen I mentioned were really overpaid. Lang is a borderline elite player, Leary had an above average season last year. Warford is a very good guard, and Zeitler was elite. We don't overpay Williams, we pick up one of those guys, and BOOM. Suddenly we're better.


Stop pushing your false narrative. Williiams may be a great NT, but he's one dimensional, and ultimately this deal is going to bite us in the ass. We should have allocated our resources better.

Nope. Defense was dominant. Defense IS dominant. They have no coverage issues. They were not porous at times. Stop with that stuff round here! Defense rules! lol

Turnovers cover a lot of ills. If your players are heads up on the ball and making turnovers off of bad passes or forcing turnovers opportunities are created for the offense. It sort of evens out the defensive failings.

Flacco had a decent game today. Not error free by any means, and communication with Wallace/Perriman seems crazy awful. But Watson? That worked. Hmmm wonder why that would be when both Wallace & Perriman have been around and Watson is new. Even Maclin has better chemistry with Flacco.

Good: We actually looked all around like an NFL team for most of the first half. Collins. Despite his fumble I hope to see more of him.

Bad: Wallace/Perriman

Ugly: Yanda's injury.

Im pushing a true narrative. Williams is an okay pass rusher (though seems to have gotten better so far this year in that regard) but his principle purpose is to take away the run. That makes him the most important piece of the front 7. If Pierce grows maybe the Ravens can have 2 anchors on the DLine but being a team that you cannot run on while at the same time sporting a top tier secondary is a recipe for success (honestly the only 2 problems on defense today in coverage were Mosley and Webb).

The Ravens defense does not work without someone like Williams taking away the run. The Ravens defense has always had that big dude to stuff the middle and let our linebackers look like all pro players.

Edit: Also Jeffersons job is to be the Ravens safety for 5-7 years and none of those options seem like we want them starting more than 2-3 so we would be overpaying at best for the backend of average players.
