Yikes... $50M in dead cap if Atlanta outright releases Matt Ryan. Going to be tough to start a rebuild with that.
not only that but his cap hit will be over 40m
they not only let dimitroff give him a huge extension 2 years ago but they've restructured the deal 3 times since then to open up cap space and push the cap hits into the future
so his cap hit in 2021 is 41m
if they hadnt done the restructuring his cap hits in 2021, 2022 and 2023 would have been 35m, 36m and 30m
as of right now they're at 41m, 42m and 36m
they could conceivably get out of the deal after 2021 and save 15m but they'd have 26m in dead money
that being said if they draft his successor they could maybe find a way to trade him to someone to take the contract off their hands and only be left with the signing and restructure pro-rated bonuses which would incur a ~36m dead money cost which still isnt great but at least its not 50m (and they would technically make a cap saving of nearly 5m if they did it that way
