The offense never looks different no matter what is done for it in terms of coaching changes, free agency, or the draft.

I'm not even sure if it's wise to invest in the offense. They're mediocre no matter what.
When have we EVER since Joe became the franchise guy? Sure we picked up Torrey in the 2nd...woohoo! Then Max and Perriman - who both had stated issues at draft time and we went there anyway. But when have we ever spent on the offense like we did the defense this past off season? When have we EVER shown them that kind of love? Never. So there is no basis for saying it would not improve if we did.

The issue is Kubiak and Caldwell were HCs before. It wasn't like they showed such brilliance here that a coach took a chance.

They were always going to get a chance; it was just a matter of when.

tbf its not just that they got HC jobs off the back of the OC role - it's that they got jobs after just 1 full season in charge

Kinda ignore how we spend a good bit on a quality offensive line or always put an emphasis on quality replacements (sans 2013). They made a pretty big trade for Boldin. Made concerted efforts to get in veterans like Watson, Wallace, Maclin. Made a massive effort to re-sign Pitta to a very ill advised contract likely because it was Joe who was the quarterback.

I think they'd have gotten jobs anywhere. Shoot, Caldwell got a job after the 2013 season. Do we really think that it's because of the amazing work he did as an OC? Hell no.

The ravens have been spending more of the cap on offense then on the defense for quite a few seasons now.

That is not possible if they are not spending anything on offense as you claim.

Its a false narrative that certain people like keep on pushing but the cold hard factual cap numbers simply dont support this.

The ravens have invested more on offense then they have been doing on defense.
Does not matter if a player is drafted or signed from FA , all of the have cap hits.
Offense has the higher cap hit which means there is more invested in them period.

The question people like you should be asking is where are they spending all that cap on for them to still suck so much year in and year out......

10m in dead money, 10m on IR (was 11 but woodhead is back) , 25m Flacco (put off that cap hit for too long), 8m Wallace (not living up to it), and I'm now at 53m and only having touched 2 players actually playing.

The rest is either rookie deals or stopgap contracts on aging players to fill a hole.

flacco cap hit alone is half of what the entire defense takes up.

interesting you only have wallace not living up to it....

Flacco's cap hit is a result of deferring several years of cap hits. There havnt been many plays where I've gone "come on Joe, that was a bad idea," it hasnt always worked out, but I think most of his INT's the past few games have been off his receivers hands.

Paying Wallace was a choice. It was pay him 6m or don't. He hasn't played up to it, now it's not entirely on him, but if he wasn't gonna play up to it you might as well have used that 6m elsewhere.

I didn't go further down because then we run into the cheap FA signings that add up.

paying any player is a choice including flacco.

you actually wanna argue he has been playing up to having the highest cap hit in the NFL?

also any unit on any team in the NFL has cheap FA signings including the ravens defense.

not sure what makes you think that the ravens offense are the only one with cheap FA signings tbh.

The Ravens have been spending more on offense because we draft more on defense and the qb, highly paid, is an offensive position. I understand they spend money on offense, but let’s be real with this.

Paying Wallace was a choice between whether or not to save 6M.

Paying Flacco is a choice between whether or not to owe an additional 22M each of the next 2 years.

Also again Flaccos average contract is not that massive relative to the QB market. This year has a big cap hit but lets be honest again thats a result of his early cap hits being 6M 14M 14M and those missing cap numbers were eventually going to come home on a 20M dollar deal. Picking out a single years cap hit is just silly. You could structure Cam Newtons contract so that he has a 50M dollar cap hit one year and 6M the rest but that wouldnt mean you should expect him to play 8x better that year. You look at average contract length to determine value.

Also again, if a play ends in an interception because the ball goes off both hands of the receiver and into the hands of the defender I dont put that on the QB. That has happened 4 times in the past month and while 1 of them was a missed penalty and 1 of them a great defensive play the other 2 i place purely on the receiver.

Who is talking about spending? The bulk of that cap hit is your QB, not your offense in general. I'm talking about drafting other than below the 3rd round. I'm talking about perhaps once trading up in the first for a quality WR instead of using patchwork tactics over and over and over. Nine times out of 10 those so-called proven vets turn out to be over and done and/or retire the next season. Wallace is a one trick pony. Always was and always will be. Maclin signing I actually liked, and still do if he can prove he isn't now made of glass. If we'd spent any time on the offense we'd have quality receiving options that aren't on their last legs and actually have chemistry with Flacco.

lol @ the cap . That is always the go to isn't it? The proof is in the pudding, or in this case, drafting. It's obvious and trying to use the cap to disprove it is ridiculous when the bulk of that cap goes to the QB. That hardly proves we put any thought or love into the offense. Not to mention of course we spend more of the cap on offense because we DRAFT DEFENSE. so they are not paid like the patchwork vets we bring int. See above for more detail.

Please draft offense with the first two or three picks unless Minkah Fitzpatrick or Josh Rosen or whatever top rated qb is their for the taking,
You know, I REALLY REALLY hate to be that guy, isn't Rosen and every other QBs considered..............................................................................offense?

Totally got me there, Lol. I had completely forgotten the first part of the sentence. Lol. Exactly what we need. Offensive draft picks before the third round, we don’t get many of them. That’s obvious.

Yeah I know. That sentence had me like, "Wait, what?" But unless if it's some sure-fire defensive playmaker, I want offense in rounds 1, 2, AND 3.

Yep, now we most likely have four picks in the first three rounds, but I’d like them to be the first three picks.

yeah 3/4 of those day 2 picks better be offence unless some bona fide star is sitting there - i hope the offensive needs are weighted into the board a little more heavily than in previous years just because of how dire the needs are
