2018 Free Agency

How? By restructuring more guys and pushing more big cap for 2-3 years?
Gotta do what we gotta do if Ozzie and company are enamored with a free agent lol

In a few yrs after the new cba, there will very likely be a huge increase as well, plus players coming off the books as the team gets younger. We can afford to do this with a few players, such as players we were keeping anyway, like Jimmy and Mosely. Cutting Maclin, Howard, Webb and maybe Carr, or reducing his cap hit allowing us to keep him another year wirh the uncertainty around Jimmy.

Anyway, there is plenty we can do to make it work.

I'm afraid there isn't. Realistically, the most we make in savings is around $11M w/rule of 51. Situation has never been worse on salary cap front.

All these aged vet signings trying to get to the playoffs to give the illusion of success is flooding the cap with useless money against the cap. May have to eat all the money in one year. And regroup. If management is retained it is not gonna end well for Ozzie. He has a good rep for now. But he could end up "Retiring" and blamed for running the salary cap and team into the ground. Especially if some of these young players don't erupt!! I like Henry but he has only flashed.

the team loses all leverage (in terms of him being un-cuttable) if they extend him though unless his yearly average is lowered (which i doubt)
Well if they extend him, his yrly average would absolutely have to be lowered without question. I’m not a fan of this, depends on how desperate we are.

Not so sure we should resign Mosley. He doesn't dominate like the elite linebackers and jump off tape. Can't pay him over $10mil per!! Screw that!! Draft a linebacker. we can't pay a good player elite money like we did with Williams.

He needs to be used properly. He was dropped back in coverage the 2nd most of any backer in the league. He had a good year, maybe not as good as last year, but he’s a top 8 Mlb.maybe better

wow - 2nd most? that's crazy - it's crazy that a player lacking form in coverage would cover the 2nd most from his position...
that screams to me of pees getting too tricksy - we had way too many players this year doing things they were less good at for the sake of deception and ultimately it may have been our undoing at times

He is very arguably top 8 at best. He isn't as good as telvin smith. Throwing league. Linebackers are the new SS. He is not explosive in pursuit. And not quick triggered. And his hits have softened. No friggin way I give him a $50Mil contract with all the good linebackers coming out last several drafts. I would trade him first

I'd argue top 5, maybe even top 3. There's absolutely no way we're letting him walk.

We are running Mosley into ground. No help at ILB, DL not doing the smashing job either. No wonder he was playing injured second half of the season.
He is half man, half amazing but you can only do so much.

I have no doubt this one will kill next year:

Vikings signed WR Brandon Zylstra to a reserve/future contract.

Zylstra (6'3/220) played his college ball at Concordia in Minnesota and has spent the past two years in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos. He is coming off a huge 2017 where he caught 100 balls for 1,687 yards and five scores, leading the league in receiving. Zylstra will compete for a job this summer.
