2018 Free Agency

Per Spotrac our estimated cap for the top 51 is 13.8m.
That's bad news bears right there. Hopefully we can fire everyone over 30 except Flacco, Yanda, and Howard to get room to re-sign Jensen and get some stopgaps. 13.8 is probably better than it usually has been but it's not ideal.

Basically they have the money to resign Jensen before cuts but if they wanna go for Wallace or anyone else cuts are needed (remember you need around 5m for draft picks).

that's 13.8 before releases and before the extensions i expect that will significantly lower jimmy smith and cj mosley's cap hits - as bad a situation as it is it doesnt seem anywhere near as bad as it was 2-3 years ago

Not even close to as bad as it could be. In one sense, it's probably a worse situation to have more cap room -- it means you have less talent signed up on the team.

Let me be clear Carr Maclin and Webb are all very likely cuts and Jimmy is likely extended/restructured to give us enough room because as is we couldnt even make a move for both Wallace and Jensen if we wanted to. Maybe Woodhead as well to save another 2M. After that, maybe they try to make a move for one solid veteran who makes plays but no way they go for a 10m plus a year WR or TE. The Ravens need 1 more weapon on offense and I suspect they try to sign it.

As for the defense it mostly looked good, going to be getting a VERY strong corner combination so the question is whether Jefferson can put it together and if he can then you are looking at a shutdown secondary.

The other question is on the DLine. There is a lot of good but not a lot of great so one more piece there might be nice. Maybe Wormley continues growing maybe he doesnt. The LB core is set for the next couple of seasons though.

If either Moore or Perriman take a huge leap forward this offseason then you are happy but you do not go into the season expecting it.
LB core set? Other than mosley no one have proved anything! yea we got browser and williams that are still growing, but as of right now ,based on current play.... we arent set

So we were in cap hell when we signed Weddle and Wallace? See, that gives me hope that we can get a top WR this offseason.

our cap situation has steadily improved the last 3 years - it looked like 2018 was gonna be really good but then all the injuries ate into the future space we might have had

I still really thing joe gets extended and plays for less money opening up some money

that would be the ultimate cap space bonus to the organisation but i dont think its likely at all and i dont think anyone is building the team and expecting a joe-cap-reduction to happen

Do you think we could give Robinson or Landry the money they're looking for?

All contracts we have a little over 10m. 10.375m to be exact.

I think we need to keep Carr because after all the secondary injuries, he’s still a fucking iron man. Hasn’t he like never missed a start? That’s insane. He must drink lots of milk lol

I agree as much as I want to cut him I don’t think it’s the right move Marlon and him will probably start the season together and jimmy with transition back in takin carr spot

ive always thought the idea of cutting carr was weird - he's a starter level corner who we might be lucky enough to have playing backup for around half what the top corners get... that feels like a reasonable price to pay especially with a load of rookie corners too

I think there's a decent chance we keep him but if we take a corner in the first 3 or so rounds that's tells me he's probably gone.

I don’t think Allen is that similar to woodhead at all - they both have good hands and that’s about where the similarities end - Allen isn’t a great route runner and has no short area agility/quickness but he does have a big body with burst in a straight line that means he can pick up consistent chunks between the tackles

I don’t see why woodhead’s frequency of production or snapcounts would reduce in 2018 given how effective he was even coming off an injury this year

Dixon is the one similar to woodhead. I remember in the off-season hearing he was working out and training with woodhead to learn how to be a great receiving RB. Plus he’s a great runner. We forget about the hype he had and how good he was coming out of college. I still have hope lol.

I know Woodhead is a good player and all, but he is very prone to injury and we have other good pieces at RB. I’d rather draft someone like him and let him go rather than keep him

Woodhead was sik though - it’s not like he was an average piece that we can randomly replace with a rookie - he was phenomenal at the things we signed him for and he’s also relatively inexpensive
