Cobb was never that good. There’s no freakish skills in Cobb that suggests he could be a stud but is being held down. And when he did produce he benefited. And many say he has lost a step. He is a mediocre No.2 maybe even a No.3 now that he is 30. The offense needs legit playmakers in their primer. An upgrade over the current unit isn’t saying much. If we want an offense that can keep up with the better offenses around the league then we need legit playmakers mostly in their prime and playing better every year with joe in the system. Not losing one more step of speed and athleticism every year once acclimating to the system.
If there’s anybody in Green Bay being dragged down it’s Jeff Janis. He is 6’3 220 lbs with speed athleticism and ball skills. And he can separate quite well with route running. I talked about him with truth once b4. It was when Adams was struggling even while getting every opportunity to succeed. And Janis looked dynamic with limited snaps and opportunity. We completely agreed Adams got a longer leash than he should while Janis deserved opportunity. The packers like keeping the players together that play every game and not big on change.
Even Jordy Nelson only got his opportunities once a couple WRs well over 30 play fell off the cliff. Then with multiple injuries Nelson finally got playing time and the offense actually got more productive with him. Kinda like Janis kept the packers in and won a playoff game for the team. However the players in front of him were younger and returned the next season. Nelson was playing behind receivers about to retire so he got to be the NO.1 once he played well. So Janis didn’t get further opportunity. I like Janis and Brice Butler. Big fast athletic WRs that run good routes and should come pretty cheap

Good to know you do your research.. Cobb looked pretty good this season when he got his opportunities, but he's in a crowded situation.. And Cobb is 27 but whatever fits your narrative. I guess a bunch of the league's players over the age of 30 should just go fuck themselves right anyway right? Not like players have never had good seasons over the age of 30. Cobb was the #2 option and actually had a solid year considering that Rodgers was hurt and the backup locked on to Adams quite a bit. Cobb was not the problem last year and if you watched the Packers you'd probably know that. Sure, he's nothing more than pure slot guy, but as far as those go he's one of the better ones in the league. I'd take him here in a heartbeat. He's a significant upgrade in terms of a player than anything we have now, and frankly he's a better fit for this scheme than any WR we have now given that he's still pretty good after the catch. He may have lost a step but he's still pretty fast compared to most WRs and can get the job done.
Yes, let's go get Jeff Janis. The guy who's made only a few significant plays in his career and has never ever broken 100 yards receiving in the regular season. The Packers need to build that defense. Them cutting Cobb when they already have 2 quality WRs make sense. And Jordy is Rodgers' boy. I would not be surprised if they pick Nelson over Cobb despite the age disparity. The last thing they need to do is piss off Rodgers.
I don't give a shit if he's slower than he used to be either. He gets open, he catches the ball, and he's still pretty solid in the open field. He's not the issue with Green Bay and his production considering that he played with a backup the majority of the season isn't
that concerning. His major knock is that he's more or less a slot exclusive WR. But that still has a lot of value in the league.
I mean, I like Brice butler as much as the next guy but teams are just gonna stack the box the whole game if we put out a WR corps of Butler, Janis, and Moore and we're still going to have the same problems as before. You don't understand how DIRE the situation is at the position. Even on the decline those cap casualties are MASSIVE upgrades even if we can't rely on them to be their former selves.
We're a defensive team dude.. Get that through your head. It's not an elite unit but to suggest that it's not a good unit is asinine and foolish. It's a playoff caliber defense that suffered down the stretch when key players got hurt. Dean Pees didn't help out either with some of his maddening decisions. He wasn't terrible but wasn't amazing either. Maybe Wink could be good but he's an unknown.
You keep proposing the idea of us turning into an elite offense. Newsflash: Janis and Butler aren't going to turn us into that. In fact, nothing will this offseason. There's a pretty good chance that the offense becomes above average this off-season if the right moves are made. Put upgrades on the offensive line in front of Collins, Dixon, and Woodhead and the rushing attack becomes one of the best in the league. Put another reliable deep threat on the team(and yes, Torrey Smith would be in consideration for that. He hasn't lost a step, and isn't likely to lose much going forward) and that commands safety attention since Flacco's arm is so big. Add one or two targets that can get open and catch the ball over the middle, and boom. That offense is monumentally better than last season's. It's not elite. It's not even great. But it gets the job done and puts points on the board.
I'd like a young WR to pair with Joe too. That guy is not going to come from FA. We cannot afford the top options, and you've oversold a lot of the other options. Richardson and Lee are quality players, but they're #2 WRs at the NFL level who are going to be monumentally overpaid because of how the market is structured. WE HAVE NO CHOICE in all likelihood to take someone but a cap cut, who you're only underselling upon further reexamination because of their ages, and have given nothing but BS reasons for the reasons why we shouldn't sign them other than their age. Guess what? We are limited to what the market has. Brice Butler I can get behind as a second acquisition from FA(as in he's the second guy we sign along with another receiving option). Us relying on him to be anything more than a complimentary piece who is used in a limited role is going to sorely disappoint all of you. Jeff Janis has done nothing in his career outside of a few splash plays. Not only will green bay keep him for dirt cheap, he will proably continue to be a reserve and GB will probably look to the draft for Cobb or Nelson's replacement.
The Rams did not have an 1000 yard receiving option this offseason but they had one of the top offenses in the league because they had a bunch of quality options.. And an elite RB. Sammy Watkins isn't a world beater, but when healthy he's a low tier #1, VERY high tier #2. I'd welcome him in a heartbeat but he's not leaving LA. Cooper Kupp(a guy who I was VERY high on) is not a #1 either. Good #2. Robert Woods is a better player than most give him credit for, but a #2. All three of those guys were acquired last offseason. Woods and Watkins were expensive and neither of those guys are elite. Oh, Cooper Kupp was a third rounder and he produced well. Just because he's a rookie doesn't mean he can't play.
We don't have the luxury of having an offensive genius OC or an elite RB. But we have an offseason with an Emmanuel Sanders, Brice Butler, DJ Moore, Mike Gesicki as our haul for a receiving corps with our RB tandem and fix this offensive line and we're a playoff team again with the defense we've been fielding. We're not going to get an elite offense overnight, but those cap cuts aren't NEARLY as bad as you make them out to be and your solution would just be us going around in circles again with us getting pissed off because our receivers suck. Flacco is about to get to his mid thirties. We have a limited window. So long as our options aren't Antonio Gates level in age, I don't care how old they are. We need reliable, sure handed, good route running, pass catchers, and we need a lot of them.
I don't care who at this point. If we get Marqise Lee, Paul richardson(who is very overrated and he's a CU Buffalo whichI have a particular bias for), Sammy Watkins(my top choice overall if we are being totally honest. He'd be a #1 here), Jordan Matthews, Donte Moncreif., Tyler Eifert, Trey Burton, Austin Sefrian-Jenkins Good. I like those guys. They'd all fit well here. But you won't here my complain at all if we get Dez Bryant, Emmanuel Sanders, Jimmy Graham, Randall Cobb.. I don't care about their age. They'd be fits here and be a significant jolt in the arm. All of them. I'd prefer it obviously if we got like Watkins or a younger guy but we need at least 3 overall acquisitions in the receiving corps. If one of those guys is a vet. So be it. I'll take it. We need it. Our offense isn't going to be elite. That's reality.

That's a doable offseason even with certain cap restrictions and it MONUMENTALLY upgrades the offense. Norwell becomes the best friend of Alex Collins and he and Stanley together form an elite LT-LG duo. Cobb still is solid after the catch and gets open over the middle and make tough catches. Something we sorely need in a WCO is a savvy route runner. As a guy who watches a fair Butler provides a nice compliment. Solid player, never going to be anything more than that, but something we could use. Reliable. Ridley? Best WR in the draft, a Bama boy. I could see him fall to us. He's never going to be elite, but he's already a developed route runner with well above average speed and nice soft hands. Hurst is a TE that can do everything. Ragnow gives us an absolute dog in the middle of the line. And Wadley is that elusvie compliment to Collins that we could use. Doable? Yeah, if we make the right moves. Monumentally upgrades the offense? Yes. Elite? Hell no and you're living in a fantasy land if you think that this offense becomes that after this one.
And I know Yanda is an elder statesman on the oline but interior guys have played at effective levels into their LATE thirties. Given that a ton of Yanda's game is technique, his game should age just fine. Especially since he's already recovered from his injury. That offseason, the one what I'd say is the most ideal for us gives us the oline of

And that alone upgrades the team. But a WR corps of Ridley-Moore-Butler-Cobb is easily better than anything we fielded last season and makes our offense respectable. Which is the realistic goal for the offseason.
Then he is a mediocre receiver.
I guess Davante Adams isn't a #1 WR either. Not like the Packers had an inexperienced backup play for them in a good amount of their games this season that hindered the production of that WR corps at all.
