2018 Free Agency

If you think dez is suddenly washed up, take a look. Dez dropped a fair share of catchable balls, but dak looked worse than flacco on ball placement last year and it's not even close. His placement was abysmal, he looked short of an NFL caliber qb, and dez still made a lot of typical dez plays, id still take him.

watching those incompletions (had to mute coz the guy's comments didnt always jive with what i was seeing) - there were a lot of uncatchable balls and some awful throws that Dez had to play defence (look no further than dez vs broncos to see the litany of garbage thrown his way) but that being said he didnt look that comfortable or confident attempting to catch some of those balls - maybe its concentration and being disillusioned with his situation but as much as this guy professes otherwise he still didnt look right last year - he still flashes his ability but i wonder if the mental arduousness of playing with dak last year destroyed his concentration and lost his confidence (part of what made him so successful and so great was his aura of knowing that a 50/50 was more like a 75/25 when it was targeted dez's way and having beat the CB in the redzone before the snap)

so absolutely id bring dez in but id still worry about his concentration and his hands based off last year's film

You know something dude, Dez is one of those players that was a freak coming into the league. Somebody that should be able to function even after declining a touch. But with Dak play like garbage I’m sure it has effected Brice Butlers game as well. Not saying Dez can’t play but Brice looks more explosive sudden and fluid running routes. Brice is the bargain in free agency. Dez is gonna cost bank cuz of his name. Brice is gonna be pretty cheap. Can get him for about $5-6mil per year at the most.

last year (and maybe even 2 years ago) i think you can make an argument for cole beasley as one of the premier slot receivers in the league too and he's absolutely disappeared now that dak has the reigns too

Randall Cobb is 27 years old. He won't be 28 until the month of August and he definitely still in his prime.
He's also literally one year and two months older than Marqise Lee. More mileage, sure. But we're using age as a parameter, it's weird to mention one is nearly 30 with diminishing abilities while the other as a future No.1 receiver.

Whatever the reason age injuries. He looks very mediocre running and catching. He did have a 1000 yard season like 4 yrs ago. And he looked pretty good then but never explosive or freakish in any area. Players slow down at different ages. Maybe injuries or a heavy workload in college going over the middle are hitting his joints now. He came out in 2011 so I guessed he was around 30 like Torrey that came out the same year. Whatever u wanna chalk it up to dude that is up to you. I’m saying my opinion that if he is the ravens big WR splash, upgrade whatever u wanna call it. That and resigning Wallace. It’s not gonna be enough 4 the ravens offense to get the pretty girl. Unless a splash breakout rookie flashes on the scene. I would prefer spend the money elsewhere like Norwell or Rob Quinn if he is cut. if Cobb is the biggest “upgrade” we can pull off at WR. And draft 2-3 receivers in the draft and coach them up.

agree with it all, i wasnt even listening and just watching and agreed with the title of the vid. dez definitely wasnt himself, he looked lost on occasion, unsure, timid almost, and he didnt catch and turn upfield with the same authority he once did, he looked like he was thinking almost as if hes a rookie on a learning curve, it was WEIRD to see dez like that. i attribute this sudden change in personality to dak being garbage on placement and communication, hes throwing to the wrong route, calling the wrong audibles, and his ball placement was about as bad as it gets when he was targeting dez, there is no way in hell dez was playing with any sort of rhythm or confidence that he had a chance to make a play.

dak for some reason had much better ball placement and chemistry with butler and butler still had problems with drops. i actually just got halfway through watching every target of the season, and the first half of the vid was littered with drops on well placed balls. ill take dez and his contract over butler, im not a fan. ill give it to you though he does look like a good athlete and a natural built wr, he has good body control, hand placement, and ball tracking, but im seeing a good number of balls bounce right off his hands and he doesnt explode off the screen enough to excuse that, im ok with routine drops if youre making one big play after another, like a prime d. thomas, julio jones, amari cooper, megatron etc. they all have/had dropsies, but made up for it, the number of drops I saw in only half a season of footage is disheartening for a guy who isn't 1/10th the playmaker that the worst wr on that list is...

I guess my biggest concern with the idea of painting Lee to be a vastly superior WR in comparison. I personally don't view Lee as a freakish athlete. He was hampered some by spotty QB play, though Bortles did have multiple solid games in that respect. He does have juice after the catch, but he's struggled on his deep routes. He hasn't separated on tape in that department, and when the ball does get there, he has issues with coming down with the ball.

Even the numbers by themselves paint a woeful picture. On 16 passes of 20 of more yards, he had more drops than catches. The amount of catches was one, the lowest qualifying number in the NFL. The year before, he hauled in 3 catches on 18 targets, which was the 5th worst total among WRs. The year before was 5th worst with 1 catch on 7 targets. Through 4 years, 171 catches and 2,166 yards, on throws of 20 yards of more, he has 8 catches on 49 targets for 256 yards. Those might be the worst figures in football throughout that span. For reference, Keelan Cole caught 7 this year on 16 targets for 300 yards.

With Cobb, you can at least hang your hat on his mitts. He has one of the best pairs in the game with 2 combined drops in the past 2 seasons. Lee had the 3rd worst figure among receivers with over 50% of playing time with 8 alone this year. And Cobb is still more than capable after the catch, having the 9th most YAC with the 7th highest average despite abysmal QB play and his marks were roughly just as high the year prior. I don't dislike Lee as an option. But I don't see why one option can be entirely dismissed while the other is hailed as a star in the making. On that last point, I would definitely like to see us go after Norwell. I don't know that Quinn gets his walking papers. I feel like he would've been sent off to Kansas City to lighten the load of what they were sending over.

With Robinson and Landry tagged Cobb needs to be our target. Also with Jensen possibly gone I'm all in on trading down for Price or Wynn. The interior line needs a big upgrade.

i still want gabriel and moncrief... and a 2nd rounder

camp re-signing would also be welcome
and if torrey really is available it wouldnt hurt to go back to that well

Cobb may only be 28 but he looks 40. Not impresssed he only dropped 2 throws and gets yards after catch when a receiver averages under 10 yards a catch. Some Fans are so desperate for a WR, would have an orgasm Cobb and Sanders. A tandem of unwanted receivers. Same routine every year. Sign some declining cap cut that played very well 4 yrs ago as the “big upgrade”. offense once again mediocre or sucks. Miss playoffs rinse repeat!!

Next year When ravens miss the playoffs. Some fans will wanna dump Joe. Some fans will be making excuses for him. And everybody will be talking about needing weapons. Cobb could maybe get 70 catches for 700 yards. But that’s not gonna put the offense over. Unless of course somebody is signed that could stress opponents like Brice Butler Marqise Lee or Paul Richardson. I would prefer to trade for some young receiver with potential breakout like Higgins, Malcolm Mitchell, Demarcus Robinson. Somebody whose best football could be yet to come. I don’t care what Higgins 40 time was. He plays fast!!

I cant wait to see all the hype of again from you guys when we pick up these fa players

There was hype about Maclin and Decker last year... I just go in not expecting much. If it works out I'll admit I was wrong. I did think Jacoby Jones was going to be a waste of money and turned out being one of our best FA moves I can remember.
