He makes football lot more complicated than it should be.
to put it simply, this is exactly it. and goddamn if his final call as a raven didnt embody his entire career as a defensive coordinator, complexity and disguise emphasized over execution and effectiveness. hes ok with half the players on the field being in a shit position as long as the opposing qb gets confused from time to time and throws a pick.

@Sledge Hammer It's about much more than FS and SS. He played 126 snaps at strong safety. The Ravens lined him up all over the field and he didn't get better until the the second have and he did improve. He played 213 snaps at linebacker, 129 at slot corner and 537 snaps at FS.

He did pretty well from games 8 on and only had two bad games in the 2nd half of the season in pass coverage. Detroit and the Steelers game. Other than that he wasn't bad. He needed time to adjust to our scheme.

Those 2 games were the only competent passing offenses we faced at the end of the season.

this may be true but even in those two games, he wasn't a total liability. He wasn't a total liability in any of the games actually.

I suspect he will do better next season as well with a little more familiarity, even if it is a different DC in charge, everything isn't changing.

Given that he spent a ridiculous amount of time in single high, which does not fit his skill set at all. Yeah. The DC gets some of the blame. He was good at covering things over the middle, including TE as evidenced by good performances vs. players like Greg Olsen who when heathy is one of the better TEs in the game. A player with that skill set going single high a ridiculous amount and not putting it on Pees = hilarious ignorance.

Jefferson should've been used like we used Pollard... Just saying.

You would have to be on drugs or drunk to believe coaching and management didn’t discuss how he would be used!! and what he could successfully pull off. No pun intended but Peas didn’t go rogue with him. Everybody discussed and agreed upon what he could and couldn’t. Peas didn’t have him do anything that wasn’t part of the discussion. Overestimated his skills. Peas is part of it but far from solely to blame. And for the record I thought there was a chance he could play single high. You could bet your house whatever Peas asked him to do. Management agreed could.

R u sure ravens have players that can execute like that?? Suggs a year older, unproven young edge rushers and an overrated ilb that couldn’t cover Tom Brady on a trick play. I’m not sure ravens have a team to say go make plays anywhere. New coordinator says he will be aggressive. Everybody will most definitely learn if all the Peas bashing was justified.

so have you taken a good hard look at the 4th and 12 play? because it sums it up quite nicely.

mosley, assigned to the deep seam/hash, lines up for an A-gap blitz, this is crucial and ill explain later...

weddle, showing blitz pre-snap, left running at the snap to get to his deep zone(cant remember if he was covering a third, half, or quarter, this is irrelevant anyway)

canady blew this one, because on 4th and 12 he lined up about 16 yards deep and still appeared to be playing man coverage somehow, horrible play by him but if hes 4-6 yards off the line then he can disrupt boyd enough to let mosley and weddle get to their zones.

but back to the first. mosley was seen leaping very high to try to bat down the pass, the pass fell between mosley, weddle, and canady, mosley is one to commonly get very high up to snag a ball, the boys got some bunnies, but he was about 4 yards out of position, if he was 4 yards closer to the hash from where he started, hes in position and that ball is picked. if he was lined up off the ball, or showing an edge rush, he is without question in position to defend that pass. hes assigned to a deep outside-ish zone, but is lined up between 2 DTs in the A gap, he is fucked from the start if the bengals do anything but run a comeback in the seam, but its 4th and 12 so you can obviously expect they wont be doing no dumb shit like that.

dalton probably knew right away, weddle isnt blitzing, so take a quick peek before the snap and then disregard that, and then one look at mosley(who is directly in front of his face) running away from the LoS and he knows hes fucked and wont be anywhere near the play if he targets boyd. he knew the second the ball was snapped, that he had one person to really worry about, and that was canady, who was lined up deeper than the sticks on 4th and 12 so he could run unimpeded to the soft spot and get there before the primary defenders. dalton was comfy as fuck and so was boyd and they knew they had at worst an easy pitch and catch for a first down the moment the ball was snapped.

So Peas point is deception yet the last play was easy to read?? So you are saying Mosley and the defense WILL be better next year?? Cuz Peas held that mediocre at best talented defense together in my opinion. Bengals were in hurry up. Dalton didn’t read all that in seconds. Peeps watch these plays over 100 times and come up with countless things Dalton and offense saw. I know There’s many breakdowns of this play all over the net. I think everybody is gonna see what a mediocre talented defense looks like this fall. Not saying I liked Peas system. It was kinda boring. His defense stifled bad offenses and created turnovers which set up ravens offense. Better offenses with competent QBs or multiple weapons were harder to hold leads on. How many times did offense fail to add to a small lead?? And how many times did turnovers set up the offense on a short field?? Anybody that bashed Peas will be on the spot this fall. You all will get your turn to gloat if the defense suddenly turns dominant. And see what the offense does when it has to drive 80 yards.

My dude... I SAW this before the ball was snapped. I saw Mosley and weddle showing blitz and turned to my wife and said "we're about to lose this shit". Didn't know who was about to fall victim, but I knew someone was gonna be lacking and out of position because it's 4th and 12 and you got primary cover guys at the line of scrimmage. It was obvious. You think he didn't see Mosley lined up over his guard? It's right in his face.

Pees didn't hold it together. The secondary did, when jimmy went down pees and his scheme were exposed. Deception is not more important than putting guys in a position to execute. You can't count on a qb getting confused on every damn snap of the season. Pees is responsible for brandon Williams going from elite run stuffer to liability by late season 2 years straight, was responsible for the same with Jernigan, likely responsible for it with pierce as well, for many reasons. Bwill and pierce barely rotated, Meanwhile you've had guys like Jernigan and Henry and davis(yes, Davis has shown the ability to disrupt when he's allowed to) either sitting out because they aren't 2 gappers or just being forced to 2 gap anyway. You got Tim fucking williams dropping coverage and edge setting and going to the bench on third down, you got this bowser being used as a pure edge rusher, zadarius smith is the MVP of pees' eyes simply because he's big enough to line up at DL sometimes and we all know "muh confusion" gives pees a hardon.

Idk about wink or his scheme, Idk his philosophy, nothing. But I know, that any DC that can use players to their strengths and not force square pegs in round holes, and emphasize execution over confusion and deception, will do better in the long run than pees.

And btw, I have given pees his due respect frequently. I have praised the mans genius as much as I've bashed his idiocy, because he's a brilliant DC until suddenly he isn't, he's always dropping the ball in key stretches and it extends back to his days with the pats.

Before I even know who Dean Pees was, I had been asking why Ellis Hobbs was lined up on Plax on a zero blitz...

same shit i was saying! Our defense was mediocre at best! Yea pees maybe played it safe at times but he still held us together and made us look better than what we really were. We literally have a bunch of unproven players on our defense! Idk what to expect next season from us, but right now we are not making the playoffs with this team!

What does eveyone think of Albert Wilson, WR. He had a nice 2017 season with a 67.7% catch rate and had 42 for 554 yards. He's an underrated WR that no one seems to be talking about and could be someone the Ravens try to bring in.

Thoughts?
He's also a great special teamer, Harbaugh will be all over him :)
