2018 Free Agency

so hawks plan to get rid of both bennet and earl. Dam

Many of them are hitting their 30s. Where injuries age and physical play drained their flexibility and explosiveness. Yet are playing out massive contracts. An aging player is like a chic that puts on weight as she moves Toward and into her 30s. She better be tied to a contract that makes it harder for dudes to get out of with language like child support. Or she could get cut. If she is on the open market her options become limited. Same for a pro bowler that is slowing down. His contract like the girl better me structured so that it is expensive to cut’em. Pete Carroll is savvy enough to look for younger versions of these players. As opposed to restructures and hope there’s enough left in the tank to get to the playoffs. He looks to prefer building around Wilson. He took some shots on younger players with upside but has hit the injury bug. Seahawks should be contenders anyways

That's what I am suspecting. There's no way the Dolphins can carry that cap number.
So apparently both sides are working towards a trade. But multiple people are reporting that there isn’t a deal that’s close to being done. The Dolphins also don’t have much interest in signing Landry long term anymore.

Either he will be traded fairly soon, or he will play under a huge 16 million cap hit.

The fan in me wants to say "this has to be the Ravens because nothing is ever leaked when we're making moves," but the realist in me says otherwise.

I'd be curious to see how the Dolphins respond. Apparently, Landry is planning to sign the tag next week. I'd guess that in meetings with his representatives today, at least one team laid out contract details that he deemed acceptable. Now, it's up to the Dolphins. They can let him sign it and work out trade compensation with whatever team. Or, the less likely option of rescinding the tag if they don't feel they're getting adequate trade value and letting him hit the market, and taking the likely 3rd round comp in 2019. It doesn't matter to Landry as he was able to get contract offers in before the opening of FA. Huge win for him and his camp.

Once he signs it they can no longer rescind it correct?

And I agree, he went from not wanting to sign the tag to now telling the Phins he’s going to sign it, so that leads me to believe he likes an offer a team laid out for him. However it’s been reported that there’s no trade that’s close to being done. Sounds like it’s time for Miami to make a decision.

Correct. He’s making the Dolphins make a decision now. No way they want to pay him that $16M. Options are to find a suitable trade quickly or rescind the tag. He got his value so he couldn’t care less as he’s going to get his choice of team no matter what. Huge win for Landry and his camp.

I wouldn’t mind throwing the Dolphins a 3rd rounder for him and pay him like ~12 million. I’d really be okay with that if we had 2 3rd round picks...but losing our only 3rd would be tough. On one hand you’re getting a proven guy who runs great routes and has great hands, but on the other hand if we keep the 3rd we could draft a WR with the pick and only have to pay him pennies on the dollar compared to Landry but still having to pay a WR in FA; but then still running the risk of the pick not working out and the 3rd rounder being wasted anyway.

It’s really dependent on whether our FO can be trusted to draft receivers lol

On the other hand, just saw a report that after talking to Landry’s agent today, teams started backing out of the race for him. Seems the asking price might be way too high.

Damn. Maybe he will be a 16 million dollar man this year after all lol.

Dolphins should’ve just saved themselves the trouble and let him go and collected their 3rd round comp pick next year. Or traded him last season. Another stupid move by a stupid FO

Do you think Landry wanting to sign the tag now means they probably have one lined up?

He’s forcing the issue - Dolphins either have to rescind the tag before he signs it (I.e. ASAP) or the dolphins get more active in helping find a trade partner - because if I’m landry I’m happy to play at $16 mill

Lmao this is perfect

Ravens have started contract talks with LB CJ Mosley and DE Brent Urban.

I think we can get Urban on a very reasonable contract while Mosley I'd be careful with and try to give him a cuttable contract after a year or two cuz he's just not all that imo.

If they were going to cut him in a year or two they wouldn’t extend him. He is one of the better overall linebackers in this league. I agree he had a down year but he was playing through injury. He was better in coverage last year. (2016)
