2018 Free Agency

Lol La Canfora blocked me on Twitter because I called him out for being wrong on Torrey Smith coming back yet again.

LOL that is sad. To be fair, most "insiders" and sports reporters today care more about being the first to report rather than making sure the report is accurate.

Really let's look at Robinson's suitors

That's his best fit. But I wouldn't completely rule us out...

We're gonna spend money though. Maclin is as good as gone. When even Ozzie Newsome admits we have to reset the WR position, something is going to happen. It was never gonna be Landry. As unlikely as AR-15 is, he was far more plausible. Something will happen. People will likely bitch and moan that's it's not the guy they want. The person in FA will not be the only acquisition. Trust me on that.
Oh I'm completely ruling us out which is fine (no it isn't, but I'm not gonna get upset). However, to your last point, I agree that the FO isn't just gonna make one move and call it a day before the draft occurs.

Report: 49ers, Bears, Browns 'hot' for A-Rob
9297.jpg

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the 49ers, Bears, and Browns are among the teams "hot after" free agent Allen Robinson.

La Canfora adds the Panthers and Ravens also have interest in Robinson, but the salary cap could pose a problem for those clubs. Additionally, the Jaguars haven't closed the door on a return. Robinson is coming off a torn ACL last year but is medically fine and should have no problem landing top dollar. The 49ers and Bears, specifically, could really use Robinson out wide. Both teams have young quarterbacks and imaginative, offensive-minded head coaches.

Why are we "settling" on Moncrief? With the expected releases of the players we basically know are gone because of their cap hit, I don't see how we can't be a player for Watkins or Robinson. I'm cool with bringing Moncrief in WITH a Robinson or Watkins but to ignore both and go straight for Moncrief is non sense.
Which further confirms my point about his suitors. Of course, we're interested in R******n, but we simply don't have the funds to get him. @JO_75 , our FO is definitely ignoring him, but I think they realize that this is a bidding war they cannot win.

Even other insiders can't stand him. A few were making fun of him the other day because he actually got something right and had the audacity to start with something like "as I said weeks ago..." like he hasn't gotten 98% of his claims wrong recently.

I think if you're Robinson you have to sign with the 49ers. There is hype around the QB, they just got Richard Sherman, and they got cap space to boot.

The silver lining will be that teams ahead of us in the draft land the top FA WRs, then the less likely they'll be to pick WR in the first round. Despite the fact that many analysts say there isn't a WR worthy of a top 10 pick, there is little doubt that WR is a position that has the possibility of teams reaching higher than analysts predict.

Teams like Bears and 49rs get the better of the FA WRs and then we can hopefully get a next tier WR FA and get the WR pick of the draft. I know many will believe we're not capable of making a good WR draft selection, but we simply have to.

This kind of the sticking point that sucks this offseason. Why exactly would players want to come here? At this point in time, the only thing that really stands out is the freedom we typically allow players to be themselves. But from a football standpoint? We're about an average team with a struggling QB and an offensive coordinator with lots of question marks. If another losing season comes, you could see a big shakeup coaching wise and that has to factor as well. As a fan I want to think that everybody wants to be here, but looking at it objectively, there are a lot of really good situations out there and I wouldn't put Baltimore in that realm as we currently stand.
I know - we used to be a destination - especially for defensive players (particularly when Ray and Ed were still here - I mean, who wouldn't want to play with living legends!). Even on offense ... I think we used to have that. I think SSS was probably one of the last offensive players who was really excited to come here. I think that is gone.

People still love and respect playing for Harbaugh. We haven’t had a hard time wooing players here. Let’s see what happens this offseason before laying anchor.

Why that doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy?

I totally respectfully disagree with that. Anybody that likes this idea is attempting to soothe over missing out on any legit WRs in free agency and lying to yourself. Problem with waiting for a drafted receiver to step up is it could take a couple yrs. and that’s if he steps up at all!! Meanwhile the offense continues to suck with a declining stopgap as your NO.1 that was only a NO.2 himself in his prime.

While your waiting to see if your drafted receivers are any good. Isn’t That is the exact formula the ravens already employ at WR. Ravens need to sign some legit in prime WRs. And if we get something from rookies it should be a bonus. Joe Flacco is to old to depend on rookies if he is to have any legit weapons. Stopgap receivers with diminishing skills are only available cuz of diminishing skills.

So if rookies don’t step up then once again a declining former NO.2 is Joes primary weapon once again. And if Joe does suck again using that same formula he could be dumped. Then the new QB has no established prime weapons. And the defense isn’t dominant to count on carrying a young QB. The ravens can afford Robinson if it makes him the priority. SF has several positions targeted. We can beat them for Robinson by focusing resources.

Report: Ravens 'remain focused on' Moncrief
9427.jpg

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Ravens "remain focused on" free agent Donte Moncrief.

La Canfora mentioned in the same report that Baltimore is in the mix for fellow free agent Allen Robinson, but the Ravens may not have the cap space to get it done. GM Ozzie Newsome may have to dip into the second and third tiers of the free-agent receiver market in his effort to overhaul Joe Flacco's receiving corps. Monciref may be best served to take a one-year, prove-it deal.

Dunno what the he’ll management sees in Moncrief!! Of all the younger receivers with potential he has the lowest roof. What you saw withLuck b4 his injuries is Moncrief maxed out. He doesn’t have the juice to win consistently. Colts fans wanted an upgrade. There are far better young receiver options. He ran a good 40 but his playspeed looks slow.He doesn’t have the juice to put it together and be a 1200+ yard consistent producer. And his routes are not sharp at all. His routes are so damn flat!! I know everybody is gonna flip out and suddenly declare he has the most potential of the young wideouts cuz the ravens are linked to him. Ravens WR scouting woes continue in the NFL as well!!

SO JLC just going for a carpet bombing strategy - maybe (hopefully) he gets one of them right

im a broken record at this point but i think we can spend our available space on building a solid foundation of a wr corps with lots of pieces rather than chasing an inevitably extortionately over-priced potential number 1... donte moncrief is a guy ive always liked in Indy and he has traits that i think will work well with flacco and help us in the redzone offence + given that we dont really feature inside routes with shiftier slot receivers we need someone who can threaten from the slot in other ways which donte moncrief does well

that's why everyone went batshit over the richard sherman numbers...
rapsheet wanted to beat everyone so he got the total maximum contract value and posted it as if it were representative of the contract because he couldnt wait for the info to be verified i guess...
