2018 Free Agency

there's no limit on the number of comp picks in each round though so as long as his deal is big enough it doesnt matter that their deal blows his out of the water i dont think

While there's not a limit, they have to adjust based on how much free agents are getting paid nowadays. If they don't make adjustments, it'll eventually get to the point that the 3rd comp picks eventually become the 4th round lol. I mean, I know it's a re-signing, but Brent Grimes just signed a deal worth up to $10M at age 849. Guys are getting huge deals now and they're going to have to move the cutoff at some point.

every year it inflates with the salary cap - that's why there were only 4(?) 3rd round comp picks this year but there were 11 in 2017

Screams smokescreen tbh... Packers have a ton of needs on the defensive side of the ball.. And they need a RB far more. Why go get wideout for Rodgers... He needs a TE, RB, Defense more.

Seems illogical

Nope, guessing they will fill their needs on offense in free agency and have a defensive draft like we did last year.

Someone on Twitter said that Robinson told him that while who your QB is, is not the deciding factor of where he signs but it will play a part in it. Well.... he's ours for sure. Who doesn't want to catch balls from Elite Joe!
That actually does help things. That should take Trubisky off the board.

Flacco is inconsistent but he's won a SB. That might be a selling point.

Jimmy G is legit though... That's where I worry there....

He's prob going to SF... And good for him. Gets to play with a real QB for once in his career.

Yeah for sure. I just doubt they'll ever let it get to the point that they're giving 20 3rd round comps because contracts nowadays leave it headed in that direction. Jensen could very well fall behind that cut line, not necessarily on numbers alone, but the insane contracts that are going to be given out across the league.

well that's why the inflation happens

in 2017 the cutoff was around 9 mill (obviously playtime factors in too) but 9.5 mill was not enough for a 3rd rounder this time around

in 2017 the difference between the highest 3rd round comp and lowest 3rd round comp was 7.75 mill but even when you take out the top 3 free agent losses for other teams that year there's still around a 2.5mill gap between the next 3rd round comp pick and the lowest couple

my best guess is that the comp pick cutoff for a 3rd rounder will likely be around 10.5-11.5 mill this year

What??? I know he’s a good pass blocker and Jensen is also a better pass blocker than Ron blocker, but I don’t see Lewis as a center at all.
He doesn't have a lot of sand in the pants but at 6'6 he actually has good length for center. Having a tall center with long arms is the new trend for NFL olines -- you can have a better punch and maintain separation at the snap. Harbaugh even said last offseason they considered Alex Lewis at center.

Adam Shefter on NFL live:

“What if I told you Ravens C Ryan Jensen will be the highest paid Center in the league?”

Get ready folks. Jensen’s gonna get paidddd

It was pretty obvious, we always low ball what we think guys deserve based on play but the market always overvalues and inflates.

Just your daily reminder that Steve himself said we are doing restructures and we will open up cap that way. Doesn't matter whether you want it that way or not. It's going to happen. We will have room. And not all of it should be spent on pass catches, though some of it should be.
Yes - we need interior pass rush and safety.
Not the O line, though.

Guess Harbaugh is hoping for something similar that happened in Seattle. Justin Britt was drafted as a Tackle, played at Right Tackle as a rookie before moving to Guard and now Center.

Random thought but i figured to put it here:

Should we seriously consider finding a trade partner for Jimmy Smith. I mean hes comming off an achilles injury and is owed more money than hes worth at this point in his career. I dont really expect him to be the dominant player he used to be and we have so much young talent at corner with Carr being the dependable, durable vet we need to mentor these kids.

We need Jimmys cap space more than we need him at this point
Id hold off one more year and look for a trade for him next year. If we have to i would release him. The move saves almost 10 million in space next year.
Have to eat the big salary this year though.

Okay we're in agreement lol. That was the whole point I was trying to get at, although I may not have articulated that as well as I could have.

I hope that whoever is saying Allen would want to play with Flacco is being sarcastic.

Of course I am. I think we all know it's a given he will sign with the 49ers. Though hopefully Jimmy's Seafood will help us out in the recruiting department.

I'm sure it's every WRs dream to play in a shitty scheme with maybe mediocre qb depending on the day for minimal money.... Yup

I hope Maclin gets nothing but imitation krab cakes and popeyes shrimp...
