And the Giants steal something important from the Patriots againOh mama...
Per Rapsheet:
The Giants are signing LT Nate Solder to a 4-year deal worth $62M, source said, with $35M guaranteed. The highest paid OL in the NFL.

I hope the Pats collapse next year. And the Giants steal something important from the Patriots again
We don't have a cakewalk defensive schedule next season and even with the one we had last year there were significant times where both just struggled mightily. Hurst namely in the run game where so many of you guys give him credit. New flash: HE WAS TERRIBLE IN THIS FACET. He was a mediocre pass protector, I'll give him credit there. He was "meh". He didn't excel, he did not struggle. He was adaquate at best. Not... starting.. caliber. As for Skura, he was actually worse individually in both facets and both struggled to anchor at times. We got lucky that Jensen was in this middle there to help plow things along and that Austin Howard was a damn good run blocker. Both are now likely gone and we have Lewis, Skura, and Hurst. All three in which are horrible run blockers, and no, Yanda coming back DOES NOT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. HE IS ONE MAN. He's a future hall of famer and is a boost, but he's not going to even offset losing both Howard and Jensen in the run game.
If our oline next year is
Stanley-Hurst-Skura-Yanda-Lewis.
It's going to fail miserably.
1. Only Stanley and Yanda are good run blockers.
2. Although Lewis and Hurst are adaquate in pass protection, Skura calling the protections scares the hell out of me.
3. Remember Gino Gradkowski. Skura isn't THAT BAD but he is proof that a bad center who cannot fucking anchor on a consistent basis can destroy an entire oline. Even in 2013 when Yanda started to call the protections, that line still struggled FFS.
So we get screwed in two ways. The running game probably takes a massive hit. Considering that the entire offense goes through it, that's not good. This makes us far more predictable(especially given that Marty is OC) and when teams stack the box I'm not sure the oline as a whole is gonna hold up.
Sorry. Unless we make upgrades, these WR acquisitions aren't going to matter as much as you think. Football is won in the trenches and we cannot have 3 below average players starting. We need at 2 more real offensive linemen, and one of those needs to be a C to call protections.
I like you Lost, but you're definitely overreacting to all of this, especially considering it's still early and FA hasn't technically started.
I share the concerns with Skura and his size, but remember, Jensen completely transformed his body in one offseason to be able to hold down the C position. I'm not expecting Skura to do the same, but how do we know he's not in the gym busting his ass right now?
I really just don't understand the disdain for Hurst. He's by no means the perfect player and I don't want to see him as a T, but he was a solid G last year.
My big concern is certainly RT. No arguments there, but I highly doubt we don't add someone at the position.
Pretty sure Nico was at LG and Jensen was the C the whole time.wasnt nico siragusa playing center in camp too?

How many times do I have to reiterate this? He was not solid at G, he was still well below average and is not a starting caliber player at all. The oline performed well last year in spite of him, not because of him FFS.I like you Lost, but you're definitely overreacting to all of this, especially considering it's still early and FA hasn't technically started.

Simba how are you liking the forum mock buddy?Never really made it that far lol. He got hurt pretty early. Don’t think he ever got reps there though, but I know it was a discussion. I imagine it becomes a reality this offseason.
You know. If he was the only move I’d object. As the third guy, why the hell not? He adds another dimension we need to the passing game and is very very reliable. Compliments both Brown and Grant well...Nope Jordy is going to be a Raven.
I bet those old timers that played their hearts out for NFL teams have to be jealous over these huge salaries for backups.Jeff Zrebiec @jeffzrebiecsun
James Hurst salary breakdown as part of new deal: $1 million in 2018; $3.5 million in 2019; and $4 million in 2020 and 2021.

Sure Skura could get better, doubt it, and RT is a big concern of mine too. Every position on the oline is and if we have another offseason where we outright neglect it AGAIN I am going to be fucking furious. It’s been a long term need for three years and we’ve made one collective long term move. It’s time to fix this problem.
At this point I’m honestly hoping Nico makes a full recovery and is ready to go for Training camp. He will have massive growing pains, but he’s probably much better than Hurst or Lewis at G.
oh and you can thank jermaine ulemencrap for it...he fell on nico's knee
