2018 Free Agency

even if it was a good contract for the team?

McFarland makes (yet another) great point:
"The Ravens loved Ebron back when he was drafted in 2014 (6 picks before Mosley), so there's a chance they'd be interested now too, but he's certainly had an up and down NFL career and hasn't lived up to the 10th overall pick."

the team loved him coming out - would they maybe take a high incentive low guaranteed money flier on him?

Think this one makes sense from the Ravens perspective. A TE that can stretch the seam? Exactly what we've been looking for. He certainly never lived up to his draft stock but he's still a talented player. He's improved the drop numbers over the years as well.

he's inconsistent but has been more productive than wrs like richardson who just got big contracts
with the seahawks seeming keen on ASJ and Ed Dickson - we might be the best option for ebron to come in

ASJ and Eifert(when healthy)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ebron. No thanks over those two...

Eifert absolutely but im not sure i trust ASJ so much - this was his first breakout year and he disappeared for the 2nd half of the season with some drop troubles etc.

i wouldnt say that ASJ is necessarily the better guy than ebron at all

Ebron is a threat but I'd much rather address TE in the draft. Unless it's a one or two year deal I am not a fan of this idea.

You want the honest truth I'd give Eifert a John Brown esq deal and hope he stays healthy, and STILL draft a TE anyway. If Eifert is healthy he's a top 5 player at the position.

i meant more in terms of wondering if you feel any differently about the signings now that the money has come out and we're a little further removed from the initial knee jerk reactions lol
Not a fan of the moves. I've come to accept the Grant one though. Not a liability and he should help us on third downs..

I want Hurst off the team anyway, but that remains to be seen if we acquire any oline starters. If he's starting I don't care about how cheap he is. That's a bad move.

my thoughts on hurst are that his cap hit for the 1st year he's here is good-backup level money so there really is no emphasis on him to start - he provides good cover at guard and maybe even adequate cover at tackle in a pinch - the 2nd year cap hit is still less than 5mill - and after that he'll be cut or asked to take a paycut

in fact we can even save 1 mill by cutting him after this year... he's really being paid like a backup who will be expected to start in a pinch - only 6 mill of his contract is guaranteed (his signing bonus and 1st year's base salary)

so i dont think this deal predicates that he starts - i think there'll be an open competition at that spot

Ebron can't block, he's basically a slot WR. This exposes our limited offense we couldn't run out of 1 TE sets. So no thanks. I'd rather bring in Eifert, if he can stay healthy he's a top 5 TE.

We aren’t the only ones who see it!

One FA WR this cycle to me, when asked about possibly going to Baltimore (he didn't): "I don't think I have the skill set they're looking for...run deep, and try to draw a PI flag..."

That's been a requirement since Torrey Smith left

If only that opens some eyes.
