2018 Free Agency

I am oddly old school but I am completely okay with taking OLine in literally every round, especially the early ones, at this point and just hoping enough turn out to be good to field a top tier OLine because a top tier OLine behind a solid QB will dominate with every below average weapons. An OLine can carry in a way that an elite receiving core could only dream of.
i think for us, it will help our run game more than our qb.

Less inthused with Meredith...

Not because he’s bad, but then the bears draft Ridley
I feel like the Bears are teeing themselves up to draft Nelson. They've made a few pretty big FA moves for their receiving group and they haven't touched OL. They also hired the Notre Dame OL coach this offseason so I'd be surprised if their draft board was much more than a collage of Nelson pics. Which would make it kind of a dick punch for them if the Colts took him at 6.

I like the connection you made with the Oline coach. This happens more than people realize. Colts will probably take Chubb in my eyes. Im not sure id see Nelson slip past Chicago and SF either

Really interesting development...
Willie Snead is visiting the ravens today - he's an RFA (original round tender) which means if we sign him we dont give up draft compensation but any contract we offer him can be matched by the saints if they want to - the fact they didnt put a 2nd round tender on him despite it only costing 1m more suggests he's not a high priority

snead is an interesting case - he was a udfa and broke out as a rookie and a sophomore getting around 900 yards both years but then after a suspension for a DUI last year only managed 100 yards in his remaining 10 games - im not sure if that was due to performance or whether he just lost opportunities (i dont know what his snap counts were) but he's certainly a player with promise - i imagine part of the reason for the visit is that we will want to make absolutely sure that if we pay him that his "red flags" arent a problem

if oz and eric and pat and steve are comfortable with the character concerns then this could be a really good signing depending on the financials
snap count for Snead in 2017 was 325. I'd be in favor of signing him. He's young and has talent.

I'm aware of the names of both Cam Meredith and Willie Snead but not so much the players themselves. What can you guys more familiar with them tell me about them? Playing style? Strengths? Weaknesses?

Cam Meredith is a big bodied guy with good hands, he’s also pretty quick. He’s got a lot of potential and I’d love him here. He had a very good 2016 season with Hoyer as his QB. If he wasn’t hurt all last season the Bears likely would’ve put a 1st round tender on him. If a team signs him on a nice deal they will be getting a steal

I'd think this potential willingness to spend on 3 WRs speaks more to their feelings about the WRs at the top of this draft class as a whole. A lot of those guys simply mesh together, and while I really like a couple of guys, I'm not sure that any of them are truly "special"

Honestly I think a lot of this draft class is fairly weak in a lot of positions which is why we are going to get so many overrated QBs taken at the top of the draft.

Snead has really good hands! Not the fastest but he gets yac and not afraid of contact! As far as route running, im not sure he was always open in saints offense but thats the saints offense not the ravens.

So if we were to come away with both Meredith and Snead, how sick is our new look offense going to be?
