Nothing new, Kiper is still out of his mind

Awful Annoucing pulled up this little tidbit from 8 years ago where Kiper actually put his career in the hands of.... Jimmy Clausen. Clausen has been out of the league since 2015. Then again he said JaMarcus Russell would be a Top 5 QB in 5 years..... so Kiper lost his mind back in 2007.

“If Jimmy Clausen is not a successful quarterback in the NFL, I’m done. That’s it. I’m out.”
McShay asked the following question: “What is your time frame, Mel? When do we make that assessment?”
Kiper answered “I want eight years.”
McShay countered, “It will only take three years, Mel. We can tell inside three years.”
Kiper replied, “I want eight.”

I don't think Kipler made a bad pick after some thought. If Ridley isn't there then I don't think I want to select a WR there. Sutton gets some thought but I don't know if he's worth it there. I really think OT is a dark horse pick and Howard number just seemed numbered to me. While he's a boost in run blocking he is a liability pass blocking wise. I don't think it is a bad pick. I don't know how everyone else feels about it but I saw some negative reactions at an OT pick.

I think we do go OL this upcoming draft R1 atm.

i have absolutely no problem with oline at 16 - ive just seen nothing that indicates to me that oneill is worthy of the 16th pick

I mean, I'm not too big on him either but I wasn't big on Correa. I wasn't that pumped up about Wormley either and we still picked both of those guys. I wasn't banging on the table for Perriman either so it really matters when it comes to who the Ravens like.

It's fucking mind boggling how year after year these boards pound the table for guys who go on to be great, and we end up taking guys who fade into obscurity before their rookie contract is up...

this team is overdue a new drafted superstar (who isnt a kicker lol)

i'd potentially say that even though we've drafted really well at times, we haven't brought in a take over the game type player since yanda (you could probably count jimmy smith i suppose but even that was 7 drafts ago)

I know how you feel. I do give the FO credit for late finds but yes, I agree with you there. I wanted Michael Thomas so badly here and when we passed on him for Correa I was honestly really pissed. Then again, I wanted Maxx Williams as well and it hasn't turned out well for us so far.

Its just weird how it all happens, I just don't know what to say about it outside of the fact that like Rossi said we have not really drafted any game breakers here in a long time.

I wanted maxx too lol.

But yeah Michael Thomas and Noah Spence were my guys there. Spence hasn't been great, I wanted Myles jack before the trade back but I was very weary of his knee.

I also wanted Andrew billings in the third. Hasn't he been solid when healthy?

I wanted Spence as well and he has disappointed. I think Billings was solid prior to the injuries.

Or Kiper is just another hack employed by ESPN that I've been saying none of us should listen too at all.

Jack and Thomas along with Cravens were my guys. I liked Maxx too but injuries and some misuse imo have derailed his value. That said, at least he's a damn good blocking TE and the perfect #2 TE imo for that reason. He's a better blocker than Boyle and I think us choosing him on TE screens is telling.

Oh I know maxx is better than what we've gotten. He's gotta be one of the best blockers in the league, and when he catches a ball he goes down hard and he needs more touches.

And yeah cravens is another guy I was huge on, I was hoping he kept falling and we made a trade up from our third, I was pissed when the skins took him because it really felt like he was in a freefall. But damn if I wasn't sitting next to my redskins fan stepdad when they were on the clock and I said "y'all are gonna take my boy cravens and ruin my night"... I just knew it lol.

For all the patting on the back let's remember a lot of people here wanted Williams in the 2nd when we got him mid 3rd and for all the hype he did pretty much nothing.

You mean the guy we kept putting on the bench behind the completely useless Za'Darius Smith despite the fact that when we used Williams on pass rushing downs he did put pressure on the QB and if you actually decide to go look back at the film he did do that. Sure, he sucks as a run defender, but he can bring the heat and we didn't use him. And before you say your typical Schtick of "he didn't earn playing time and struggled". Yeah.. As a run defender. And even if he did struggle as a pass rusher. 1. He was a rookie. 2. He ain't gonna get better if his ass is on the bench. he needs reps and given that we consistently trotted somoene totally useless on a regular basis it literally couldn't have hurt, especially on pass rushing downs.

And for all we know he turns into a good pass rusher. He's a rookie. It took Landon Collins a year to get going to after an ABYSMAL rookie season. Too early to judge at all.

LiT just LiT yo ass up on this one
I think it's funny that we fault Tim Williams for struggling as a run defender... When we all knew it was gonna happen. The great irony this season is that we used Williams more or running downs. Now normally, I'd be all for playing him on running downs. As I previously said, he ain't gonna learn if his ass is on the bench.. But EXCLUSIVLEY? Sorry, that's stupid. It's literally Paul Kruger all over again such as the @The Raven suggested. Kruger could bring the heat, wasn't great at much else, but he could do that and do it well. And we didn't use him until season 3 as a situational pass rusher.

It's absurd. Pees misuse of Bowser and Williams is something I'm not going to miss even though on the whole I think he gets a terrible rep

Spot on. Pees was a master at wasting talent coz "muh scheme" and "muh disguises"

My problems with Pees were ESPECIALLY with how he used Bowser. Truth be told, if we had played Williams more as a three down linebacker.. Then I'd be content. I wouldn't necessarily be happy, but I'd be okay with it. But we draft this linebacker who has good instincts and skills in coverage with plus athletic ability and we seldom use him there despite us clearly needing a coverage backer. Wtf?

The thing is though, both of them flashed enough for me to have confidence in them going forward. Bowser needs more coaching but the dude is going to be an asset if he even develops DECENT pass rushing moves with how athletic he is, and Williams just needs to see the field more on third down. Williams has pass rushing moves already and is a good athlete. The potential is there for Williams to become a damn good LB

We were lacking in pursuit on the edges as well and bowser showed incredible pursuit in the preseason. There is simply no reason that ZDS should've had more rush snaps than twill, and no reason peanut should've had more snaps than bowser. Teams didn't even bother with Z, half the time they had the OT slide protection inside and chip Z because they know he won't get the sack even with a free run at the qb, and it WORKED.

Z was the single biggest problem with our pass rush

I mean Pees managed the Dumervil situation right. Upshaw 1st&2nd down Doom on 3rd down. Use TWill the same way.
Ok the next thing if you want your Llbs to be every down backers why do you even draft Bowser and Williams? Practice is important, but you need to play regularly to translate it into games. Ozzie needs to stop taking these developmental prospects if our coaching staff don't want to play them in their 1st and 2nd year it wastes precious rookie contracts. At this juncture he'd rather pick those high floor low ceiling guys.

Other from 4th and 12, Z constantly whiffing sacks or falling to the ground before touching the QB was the most embarrassing thing I ever saw from this team this season. Dude needs to be cut the moment it becomes financially feasible to do so.
