Gahhhhhdamn. Scorched earth. You really fucking hit the nail on the head too. It's weird for sure. They've typically been pretty cynical towards their FO anyway. Even Steelers blogs have noted the uncharacteristic optimism of the fanbase (https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.c...e-2021-nfl-draft-class-grades-nfl-news-update).
I like Najee Harris and Pat Friarmuth as prospects, but I'm not sure how much they'll open up Pittsburgh's offense. Steelers fans have always truly believed in addition by subtraction and feel that their line is going to be better without Villanueva and Pouncey, but they're stuck relying on younger, rawer guys on the line. It's worked out for them in the past, but they don't have Munchak anymore.
I'd personally have absolutely zero faith about a rookie OC installing a new scheme with Fat Ben behind David DeCastro and a revolving door of practice squad castoffs and midround draft picks, while the defense that closed out the season 1-5 without Bud Dupree is still not going to have Bud Dupree... or Steven Nelson... or Mike Hilton. But hey- TJ Watt's probably going to have another double digit sack season and get overlooked for DPOY and that energizes that fanbase more than a division title or playoff berth ever could.
their window has been closed for so long that they’re getting delusional lmao, like they’re so starved for a contending team that they’re seeing mirages
