2022 General Draft Thoughts

and i think that's a fair mode of thinking
but i think it's also worth noting that EDC hasnt hidden the fact that he wants to make more than 10 picks in this draft

we're building/have built an offence that can compete with basically any offence in the league - the idea doesnt necessarily have to be that we have no holes on defence anywhere (that's just unrealistic), but the best complementary defence is one that is opportunistic and maybe they aren't consistently dominant but they have enough playmakers at high value positions that they can create turnovers and errors and steal positions or steal points etc.

with the offence they've constructed, they dont necessarily need the 2011 defence and they've already got 3 high quality play-makers on the backend, and 2 guys in the front 7 they hope are ascending playmakers also (queen and oweh), as well as some complementary pieces who add value too - if they can add another couple of guys basically anywhere on the defence then it looks a dangerous unit even if it's not as deep as we'd hope or doesn't have high quality starters at every spot... they've just got to find enough guys that you cant just scheme them all out of the game or avoid them
This makes a ton of sense. Real playmakers though are likely going to be from EDGE. Secondly from CB but we kinda already have those. That makes me think that ILB is actually may be really important

Too bad it's Chris Simms and his whole career is a bad take

just more fuel in the fire lol
although it doesnt help the idea that he might fall that baldy thinks KT is EDGE 1 lol

i think these top 3 edges are ultimately going to be drafted in order based on fit more than on grade when it comes down to it - i dont really believe the effort concerns about KT and the only thing i think is a realistic concern (which could be somewhat significant) is his spot of hip stiffness that sometimes shows up when trying to bend the edge

but if you're looking for a freak athlete with violence and interior versatility but who's maybe a bit more of a projection with his pass rush than other guys then Travon's your guy
if you're looking for more steady play and general all-round game and elite levels of bend and flexibility in a bigger type of guy who's likely going to make significant pro contributions early in his career then Hutchinson's your guy
if you're looking for extreme explosion and dynamic speed and length then KT's your guy

different flavours

and JJ's kind of the all-around guy who's got burst, length, is polished and violent as a run defender, but maybe a little stiff, a load of pass rush moves but only 1 year of tape

People actually thought Aiden was worthy of the first overall pick, let alone a top 13 pick? Man, I wouldn't take him until.......... Pick 14.

On a serious note.... if Aiden were to somehow drop out of the top five, nah we can't wait for him to potentially drop out of the top 5. If he's on the board at 3, offer Houston whatever picks this year and our first next year to get Hutchinson.

He’s good but he’s not good enough to warrant that kind of bounty no way

He’s not a bosa

Lots of talk about Travon Walker potentially being the number 1 pick now. I really like the guy but that seems rich for a guy where you're doing a lot of projecting, especially when you have some other top players where you know what you're getting. Walker should still go early but having trouble seeing him as a number 1 pick type of guy.

Im fine with it and lying season is about to peak.
if kyle hamilton is there at 14 do we consider? best starting secondary maybe ever if we grabbed him
Hamilton at 14 really depends on who's left. I have a hard time picking a S in the top15 of the draft. Imho he's a luxury pick and we have bigger needs.

I'm personally a Hamilton stan and will pick him over literally anyone though it's close between him and KT. Having a duo of Hamilton and Marcus with MP and Marlon in front of them for years to come just isn't fair

Trent Baalke....... that is all. Rumor is he sees Walker similar to Aldon Smith when the 49ers took him in the first round. It's quite crazy Travon would even be in the conversation for the first overall pick but when there is no true number one, this is what you get.

if it's walker then it's more of a case that the film doesnt the high heights with his outside pass rush but the context of his lack of opportunities to rush outside is important to his evaluation - there's more projection involved with his draft position but certainly not as drastic as expected
