2022 General Draft Thoughts

COVID MADE THIS DRAFT DEEPER

GM6: “When so many college players had shortened seasons, or no seasons [in 2020], a lot of them chose to stay and play a regular year last year. That’s why the draft’s deeper this year. Not just at the top, but all the way through.”

GM7: “This is the year to have a bunch of day two and day three picks. And I think the pool of undrafted free agents will be better than usual.”

GM8: “One of our analytics guys was talking about how Covid made this draft richer. Look at all the picks Baltimore has in the third and fourth rounds. [The Ravens have seven in the third and fourth combined.] Those picks are absolute gold. They are going to have a great draft. Five years from now, that will be the story to look back on.”

GM9: “I’m extremely bullish on the third and fourth rounds, into the fifth.”

Coach 1: “This draft, in terms of high-quality players, kind of drops off the cliff after about 10 picks. But the depth of make-it players who will contribute is very good.”

interesting from peter king this morning

He’ll be fine. Put some deer antler spray on him and send him out there! One of our 4th round picks babyyyy!

if he's there in the 4th then he's a no doubt, red star go get him type of dude
and i even have a 3rd round grade so dont think im low on him lol

Eric Johnson from Missouri State visiting a ton of teams but was apparently in the building for a top 30 visit today at the castle

I really like zyon mccollum a lot

45 feels too early for a small school guy who never played against any sort of close to top competition but...

he's got every single trait you might possibly want and a ton of great looking film with some key things that will need working on - but if he was doing this stuff in the FBS i think he'd definitely be in the early 2nd round conversation and maybe even 1st round

he's that kind of outrageously fluid athlete at 6'2 200lbs - historically elite athlete in testing terms

Bateman, Pickens, Hollywood, Andrews, JK Dobbins.. dream the dream.

did it a couple of times on the tape in different games lol
i actually think he's a somewhat disinterested blocker at times - but when he's engaged he can be a physical bully against some of these DBs lol

but definitely somewhat of an inconsistent effort blocker

Probably gonna try and put out a rossi's positional top 10 thread at some point this week

but to do that im gonna have to watch a bunch of TEs and a few WRs, LBs and Safeties still
and maybe QBs if i can be bothered (but i probably cant lol)

One of Proche, Duvernay, and Proche is going to be a good number 3 next year

you sure are confident in proche there lol
im assuming you mean wallace...

and tbh i think it's going to be some combination of all of them - idk what proche needs to do to secure more opportunities though (beyond playing special teams because he's not doing that but maybe if we only keep 5 WRs this year he might be consistently active that way)

but wallace was the 3rd WR to start the games down the stretch last year ahead of sammy watkins and duvernay (and proche) so i think he's probably go the inside track if he continues to progress - definitely helps him that he might have some inside-outside versatility

Yeah I edited it before you even commented lol. I agree that Tylan probably has the inside track and for good reason. He is by far the best prospect out of the 3. I actually see a decent ceiling for both him and Proche. I just don't see it from Duv. I see Duv just making 5 nice plays a year and being a great returner.

Duv has something that the other 2 dont have with that blazing linear speed and explosion and that still has value and i think he made progress last year harnessing some of that explosion to be dangerous off the release on slants (and vertically too) as well as the pseudo-ground-game stuff he's already been doing a lot of

but i dont see his role changing from that tbh where the other two have opportunities to develop and win receiving reps with an actual route-tree and a more diverse role in the offence... if they can take them

Had to YouTube some Wallace highlights to remind myself..

He’s for sure has the inside track with the way he plays special teams. Harbs type of guy.

COMPLETELY agree

at a minimum he's already basically cemented his gameday checks for the next 3 years with the way he plays on special teams

that first route is exactly the type of stuff i think he's going to be very successful with as he continues to transition from outside to the slot - the ball was so late from snoop there lol too...

but you saw a hint of it at the senior bowl when they asked him to start running routes out of the slot and you see it here, you can even see it in how he gets downfield as a gunner - he really has a nice feel for the stem and the break and attacking leverage and breaking in blindspots and if that's all he ever does he's gonna be a successful underneath receiver especially with how physical he is after the catch

he's got a chance to be a safety valve type guy

after the draft im gonna have to come back to this and see if i can find more route-running tape of tylan in those 11 personnel groupings we ran late in the year with him - these were only the "highlights" when he got the ball or made the play

Can Proche just take the next step? The guy is clearly one of these psycho all in types who just lives to play football. He dominates practice. He's flashed in games. Can he just get the opportunity to prove himself
