2022 General Draft Thoughts

I mean it’s how it should be honestly. Why I’ve been fighting the trade back narrative unless one of the premiere talents drops. A big reason why the guys were discussing at 14 if we have to stick are the same guys we’d want to trade back for. Needs to work for both sides for a trade to happen. And if we want to trade back, there also has to be someone trading up for. Not saying it will or won’t happen but it’s a tougher year since a lot of guys blend together after the top dogs.

that's why we need the receiver run to start in and around the end of the top 10
if a couple of those guys go then we're probably gonna see the packers and chiefs... and maybe even the eagles inquire about getting up to ensure they get their guy

Also rumors abound that if a QB run happens this year, it's expected to be at the end of the 1st. Reports out there that teams like but don't love this QB class (as it should be) and there's some wariness about giving up the capital and attaching yourself to a meh guy when you can take a stab at the end of round 1 instead. Apparently teams feel if they miss out on a QB this year, it's not a big deal.

If you asked me, I feel like Carolina is the only team that NEEDS to do something at the position. Steelers, Saints, etc. have at least solid options and can be more patient if they so choose.

and they're the team that might be forced to take one if they cant find a trade partner at 6 - they probably want one of the guys but they want to take them later than the 6th pick

and they dont have the ability to wait because they dont pick again after 6 for 130ish picks

it's possible too that if they cant find a trade down parter they take the tackle at 6 and try and work out a way to trade for mayfield on draft night

They are certainly the prime candidate for a bigger move for someone else. That team is a complete mess.

I have faith these organization will continue to make the wrong decisions. If they wait to long they also invite some other teams into the mix. Lets face it the QB purgatory creates pressure and doesn't sell many tickets.

The Falcons are one Marcus Mariota injury away from starting Felipe Franks. Wash is desperate for a face of the franchise. Texans are a guarantee to take a QB, likely 13, I don't buy the belief in Mills talk. Does Carolina really want Baker?

I just see a few teams slipping up, combine that with a couple WR off the board early, and I'm thinking a solid pick will fall right in our laps at 14.

as dumb as some organisations can be
i think they're all clever enough (especially the bad ones), to realise that they're probably in a rebuild and that next year's class is much better at QB
the texans probably dont think mills is a potential franchise starter but they lose very little by improving the team around him, seeing if they havent found a stud for cheap and if it doesnt work out, put themselves in prime position to take one of the top QBs in a much better QB class in 2023

no way the texans or falcons spend a 1st rounder on a QB, the lions might - but if they do i bet it's at 32, the commanders might but it would be an odd decision to bring in wentz and a rookie

the overall sentiment around the league is that this QB class sucks... obviously it only takes one team to convince themselves for one to go but it just seems unlikely

Don’t shoot the messenger

pain...

here's hoping a team saves me from my big day 1 fears like the last 2 years where the chargers traded up to go get kenneth murray in 2020 and the bills took greg rousseau before we could take him in 2021 (both apparently players we were high on and would have been seriously considering had they got to our picks)

And all of those teams that would conceivably want a QB are also picking in the early 2nd. So they can give up that pick plus a mid rounder and get into the late 1st to get a guy if they want. If it works, great... you have a young QB with that 5th year option. If it doesn't, you burned basically a 2nd plus a mid rounder and hopefully still got a stud elsewhere at the top of the 1st. No harm no foul if you miss on that pick but overdrafting a guy in the top 10 that you don't believe in is how people lose their jobs.

i think the ravens may benefit a little from having some guys we like fairly high be valued lower by the rest of the league especially at tackle

guys like rasheed walker and daniel faalele and even someone like jamaree salyer make a lot more sense on the ravens than in other teams and are likely to be lower on a load of teams's boards

someone like josh paschal also with his traits but also with his heavy hands and interior rush may well be higher on the ravens board than other teams's - gives us someone with potential to play that ZDS role but also the run defence to play early and the traits to not have to trade off instant value for a limited ceiling

this tweet is talking about his heavy hands... but im way more excited about the fact that he can do all that but also look at the way he bends the edge there... he's one of those guys id pound the table for as a ravens fit and red star kind of prospect

Is this guy that bad lol? The entire board seems to hate him
I don't think he's bad by any means but there's a level of risk if you take him at 14. Comes from a smaller program and spent a lot of time bullying inferior talent which is what you want to see. Then went to the Senior Bowl and had a couple of days where he didn't look so hot before settling in. Just a lot of question marks about how his game transitions against the best of the best in the world. I think he's a guy that has a high ceiling but also a guy that could flame out quickly. I wouldn't hate it but personally, I think there are many better options.

Please Seahawks… do us one solid.

My question is this... if we did draft him where does he play? We signed Moses to play Right Tackle which is where Penning would play if you draft him in the first. Unless Stanley is going to announce his retirement or something, I can't see us wasting a first round pick on an OL that likeky won't see the field at all.

Also from his website

"Michigan slot cornerback/safety Daxton Hill has been on the bubble of the first round throughout the draft process. Hill might slide to the second day, and a big reason for that would be poor interviews. Team sources from franchises that were excited about Hill said those conversations went so poorly they ruled Hill out. They worry about mental makeup issues and feel taking him in the early rounds is too risky."

Does this guy know stuff or is this all just BS?

Many seem to project him to do well at G, so that would be an option year 1. Not that I'd like him at 14, but I think they would get him starter reps inside if Stanley is back
