‘Wink’ is the New Defensive Coordinator

Talking about defensive coaching, I think we need to seriously consider replacing Cullen. Drop off in play quality of our D line after late coach Brooks is huge.

I hope you two are right and Pags decides he’d rather work than take the year off.
I think most of these coaches are workaholics and I also think that coaching to them is therapeutic and necessary. Money doesn't hurt especially when you can double dip right?

Idk...Pags coming back just seems too good to be true. And come on guys everyone knows we don’t get to have nice things

Wink is gonna be hired. It’s inevitable
Probably. However, I have a strong gut feeling he will be better than Pees. I don’t care about his year with the broncos. And I mean all we need is a guy who is actually going to freaking use our personnel correctly lol

I think Pags has already accepted and they are waiting until after the weekend to make the announcement. Just makes too much sense to have him back.

I wonder if we’re waiting to see what happens with Austin and fangio and pagano’s happy to wait because he’s ok with taking a year off...

I'd be happy with Fangio but I'm not a big fan of Austin. In fact I don't see us switching to a 4-3. We really have a 3-4 personnel right now.

the year he was with the broncos was a shit show when mcdaniels was hc and eventually was fired in week 12. the defense did not have much talent to work with. if he gets promoted i would support him and you never know he could be the right guy for the job. bottom line is if harbs misses the playoffs than everyone is gone.

Most of the contracts are offset. You can’t double dip unless been written into the contract.

I'd rather switch to a 4-3 for the simple reason that folks like Judon -- who albeit is surprisingly good in coverage -- should not have their pass rushing talent wasted in coverage. One of the drawbacks of a 3-4 personnel set is that you're going to have a hybrid edge type in coverage when you're in base, and most of these guys are not cover guys. I mean, it doesn't really matter when you're in the nickel. I kinda prefer a 4-3 personnel set because the roles are just simpler. Linebackers chase, cover, and tackle, and your dline plays dline. Players are less frequently asked to do more than their job, whereas a 3-4 requires players to bring a diverse skill set. I do believe a 4-3 is easier to build.

However, the more important thing I have an issue with is whether we will continue employing a 2 gapping dline with gap control and contain as the focus. I'd rather switch to single gap so Brandon Williams can singlehandedly eliminate a run game. In a two gap, defensive linemen are supposed to absorb blocks and try and cover two gaps so linebackers can make tackles. In a single gap, their job is to penetrate, disrupt, and fucking destroy their gap. Under Pees, we've mixed it in, but gap control has been in the focus. We used single gapping more under Pagano. I like keeping dline on the attack. A disruptive front four is the best thing you can have going for you on defense. If the dline lives in the backfield it helps everybody.

Cant disagree more. Williams,Davis and Pierce are prototypical DT's in a 4-3 while Henry,Urban( if kept),Suggs and Kaufusi would all excel in the 5 tech to me with Henry sliding inside on passing downs. CJ would also play better as a bonafide MLB and be used more as spy than coverage. Onwauser should not be on the field as a starter but a spot player that mainly plays on spteams but right now we lacking real hard for another ILB and have been for a couple years.

In other words I would love to have Teryl Austin!!
