‘Wink’ is the New Defensive Coordinator

I was just thinking about our lost season. As favorable as the schedule was, 3-4 plays meant the difference between a win and a loss on at least 3 games we ended up losing. We could potentially have ended the season 12-4 conceivably. So, when you seriously give it some thought, then you begin to understand that status quo may not be so bad after all. We need to make some critical improvements to our offense. We need to upgrade our receiver corps and running backs too perhaps.

The O-line is going to get better just by virtue of Yanda, Alex Lewis and Siragusa coming back. Even if we lost Jensen, Skura would make a decent Center (after all he was competing for the job all through TC and just lost it to Jensen). So, if we can draft a play making WR and add a good coverage safety to the mix either through FA or the draft, we'll be okay.

Maybe we need an upgrade to the LB'ing corps as well. I don't think Peanut or Correa are difference makers. We have a real shot at improving the roster although we'll be severely tested given the schedule next season. But, one can definitely see where the Ravens brass are coming from not making changes.

even smith offers more then him at this point.

I wonder why QB hits are a stat then. Just because the QB releases the ball in 1 second doesn’t mean him getting there right after is bad.

never said its bad.

it just wasent enough for the coaches to increase his snaps.

the others guys also arrived a tad late or in smith case arrived in time only forgot to actually make the tackle.

i agree. i do not care who he hires or promotes the bottom line is if they miss the playoffs he is gone but i am hopeful it all works out. i believe wink will be an upgrade over pees. ozcosta should be on the same bubble as harbs. garbage wr's and the safety play was unacceptable with the $$ they invested into weddle and jefferson.

I think the reason we have meltdowns is because we just get conservative with how we call plays and appear to give the middle of the field to keep the other team in bounds to force the ball there and run the clock out but I think our LB and S being unable to cover that area has hurt us significantly. I’m hoping with Young coming back to handle slot duties that’ll improve as well as with the addition of a coverage LB.

This is an astute observation that I hadn't considered. It's a reasonable and likely possibility.
 
i no longer want, and to be honest i've noticed things are changing in the community, but i no longer want people saying ozzie knows better than us. He doesn't. I've seen people, inlcuding myself go through draft day and make better selectons
for example

in round 2 i wanted zach cunningham
when our 3rd round picks came i wanted Carl lawson and by our 4 i was just dumbfounded to why desmond king wasnt taken yet.

I no longer see these guys are superior talent evaluators.

It’s not just about drafting, it’s about so much more than that. Anyone can pick a player that they like. Over the course of time not many GMs have a better record in the middle rounds. Recently he hasn’t don’t that well with 2nd and 3rd round picks, but all GMs go through ruts. Even the best. If it were so easy for the armchair GM to run a franchise, then we would be doing so. Last year may have ended the drought. I believe atleast two of Bowser, TWill ams Wormley pan out. I liked all three in the draft.

Desmond King is doing almost all his work from the slot, he really wasn’t needed with Tavon Young and Canady. I also wasn’t a huge fan of his. Couldn’t stand his footwork, I’ll admit I was wrong there. You admitted you were wrong pretty quickly on the Marlon Humphrey issue as well.

Anyway many of us can pick a player in each round that we like, but running a franchise is about more than picking players.

There is also no guaranteed that if we picked king for instance he would be doing just as well here.

He probably would have been buried on the depth chard for majority of the season.
 
ill admit im still gutted we didnt take kamara, juju, godwin, witherspoon, lawson but ill also admit that there were many others im glad we didnt take (who i might have at various points)

its easy to look back and say i was right because we naturally forget all the times we were wrong - i for instance had malik mcdowell way too high on my board as well as a few others and then there were some i had way too low: njoku, elflein, cunningham, kupp, shaq griffin, even tyus i probably had too low on my board (you could say the same probably for wormley too)

oh believe me, if he was playing for bama he'd have been picked by us. If Trdevious white was Bama and Humphrey LSU ozzie would have drafted white. His bias towards bama is very very clear. He's anti LSU.

I love LSU and FSU defenders. Bama on the other hand, bust after bust after bust.... but thats just my opinion

Eh I think we could have found a place for him. Not only was he a great rookie, this guy before the draft said he wanted to be a Raven
 
guys, this team is a mess. I said this year we'd be below 500 but because of QBs getting injured combined with a cakewalk schedule that wasnt the case..HOWEVER, i predict next year we will finish with 4 wins and a top 5 pick. This is the first time where i'm looking at a situation where we can do so little compared to other teams and we have so few young stars.

what i'm more concerned about is does steve biscuit have the guts to ever fire harbuagh..?

If we were to only end up with 4 wins having experienced few injuries then it’d likely be impossible for harbs to stay at that point

Sure they have some busts but they also have more players or at least close to the most players in the nfl and I’d bet it’s close to the most with success over the last 8 to 10 yrs. You show me a school with multiple players in the NFL without a bust. You won’t be able to find one.
