The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Week 14 Edition

After sleeping on it, aside from the obvious questions about the defense, the one linger concern that continues to sting is following. What on earth was Jeremy Maclin doing? He collapsed on the hit like a folding chair, with his eyes completely shut during the close up. Then he stood up, and walked it off, forcing a crucial TO to be lost. He was on the sideline waiting to substitute in one play later, meaning he either voided the tent or made the trip in record time. I despise presuming about injuries, but the entire ordeal was strange enough to legitimately wonder if he was attempting to draw a flag. Then Flacco threw an on-the-money back-shoulder fade and he's stepping out of bounds before even prepping for the catch. Obviously the entire game isn't on Maclin himself. But with the chance of winning in sight, I don't know that he could've done much more to prevent a victory other than dropping a TD. It was a bizarre sequence that has not gotten easier to comprehend.
My frustrations with Maclin has nearly reached it's boiling point. I also wanted to note that his routes have not only been sloppy but he's quiting on his routes over the middle or where ever there's a safety at. I think Joe needs to hit Maclin more often in space where there's not a safety or LB in sight because Maclin seems to be bugged by injuries.

Personally, his play just makes me want to keep Mike Wallace over him all day long. Dude has been a stud and plays with heart.

Perriman has been the mostly costly WR miss we have ever had.

Fucking Josh Gordon doesn't play a lick in 3 years and comes back looking like a star.
While Perriman cant even be a reliable 3rd wheel in THIS wr corps.

That sequence of 2 plays at the end are the worst of what has been a bunch of inexplicable poor play. Don’t see how they can put him back on the field.

Im sorry but i hate losing more than i like winning especially on the big stage! I dont want us going into the offs knowing we have no shot at the SB! id rather us just come back strong and healthy next season

I am going to admit that I'm using the eye test here but against Dez Bryant he got man handled just simply on pure strength alone. Outside of that I'm going to have to look back at the film. I honestly think he is going to have issues against taller and physical WRs though.
I disagree with the assessment against Bryant. Bryant saw most of his receptions on the opposite side. He only saw three targets and two completions against Young. One was on a 9 yard curl route. Bryant got away with a shove, but the coverage was relatively tight in spite of it. The other was on a three-step slat on the 16 yard TD. That was largely a byproduct of the ill-advised off-man coverage that we ran throughout the better part of the day, which was routinely and unsurprisingly exposed to that point. On that play alone, Young was 6 yards away from the break point of the route. He did meet Bryant at the 4 yard line, but I would wager that Bryant would take any CB into the end zone after gaining momentum against no resistance, especially when said CB is approaching the point of contact at a lateral angle. Young could very well lose some against the larger WRs, especially if tested repeatedly, and especially when playing in significantly off-coverage. But I personally don't recall seeing much on tape to consider it an outright liability moving forward.

lol It almost might have been even worse, which is almost incomprehensible to say out loud. In Evans' case, I could at least somewhat soothe the pain by telling myself that Sterling Moore made an excellent play. It obviously doesn't erase the fact that Evans could've very easily held on. In Maclin's case, I struggle to find an outside factor to rationalize either of the two plays. The recency bias does play an effect. But dare I say that this one is possibly even more difficult to swallow?

This is one of the most frustrating losses in recent memory. I expected to lose this one, but the fact that we HAD this game makes it so much worse. Pees better figure out how to call a defense without Jimmy or there's no point in even making the playoffs.

you're 100% right these damn ravens always suck us in even when i was fully prepared to just watch us get beat last night - but they reeled me in and had me pissed off by the end

Yeah, like we should be happy that we only lost by 1 point to the second best team in the AFC, but WE HAD THEM BEAT if we could just get one more score and/or stop. FeelsBadMan.

Wallace has the moxie, the want to. I like his competitiveness.

not just had them beat - we had them put away - we had the ball up 11 and had been driving all day on them - another td and that game was virtually over

Carr is a starting cornerback in the league. He shouldn't give up 200+ yards to a receiver period. Sure he should of had some safety help on a few of the plays but he let AB run right by him no matter what. He did not put himself in a good position to succeed. A rookie is showing why he is more valuable than him right now.
You do realize AB is possibly the absolute best WR in the league right?

Overall Observations:

-If Joe doesn't throw that INT on the first drive Tucker adds 3 points...and we wake up happy
-LB's can't cover slow TE's
-If Marty doesn't go...I will
-running the ball at 5.8 yds per clip and you pass when killing time should be the priority
-Pass rush???
-secondary scheme questionable (I believe we have the talent to succeed)

All obvious, however, by putting it down in writing I feel better...

Imagine if we took Byron jones... we would handle the loss of jimmy with ease, we wouldn't have needed to shell out money for a bust signing in Jefferson, we probably win against the steelers last year, we probably win last night.

Hasn't Malcom brown heated up the past 2 seasons?

Literally any other pick would be better than Perriman. He's contributed nothing to this team except disappointment.

no question that lost timeout and stepping out of bonds were crucial. I don't remember where we were if he had made that catch, but those two moments were crucial, to say the least.
