I do want us to somehow retain Greg Roman and maybe James urban. I think having someone familiar in lamar’s Ear would be good. If we can somehow keep them but let go of harbs and Marty, that’ll be a dream lol

I reckon Urban is more important to keep than Roman

While we are talking about coaches. Can someone please tell me what the hell is the difference is between an Associate Head Coach (Rosburg) and an Assistant Head Coach (Roman)?

Well I’m glad you asked! An Associate Head Coach is one who has an Associates degree-level of knowledge in the field, whereas the Assistant Head Coach is the guy who assists the HC. The Associate Head Coach is essentially on-par with the HC but he doesn’t have the formal 4-year education with a Bachelors in 53-man management. The Assistant Head Coach has many duties, like warming up the car and getting the coffee and other stuff that they delegate to their own assistants.

Worth mentioning - it's very important (for both positions) to learn early to answer every HC's word with "Yes, Boss!!!"

in Roman's case it was an excuse to basically give him more money and responsibility in an official capacity that would sort of ward off any potential interest in moving to another team

beyond that i think its basically a meaningless title unless the HC were to be fired mid-season - and even then its not really certain who would takeover - probably Greg Roman would take over as HC and Rosburg would have more of an increased leadership role in general

They're made up positions that a HC can give to an important lower coach to make it harder for a team to poach them. It's just a HC and GM's way of saying, "This guy is important, we're paying him extra to stay here."

I’ll have what you are having

Thanks everyone. I kind of thought so but wasn’t sure.

PFT says Harbaugh would be in high demand according to league sources Harbaugh is being viewed as a top candidate if we decide to move on from him.

No doubt he would be in demand. I really think the best parallel for him - as it would be seen by owners - would be something like an Andy Reid hire. A guy who is really a good coach, but had run his course with his current team.

Those who want to see Harbaugh gone - I'm not necessarily defending him, but just stating what I think the perception would be across the league if he were made available.

If we decide to move on from him, we need to let him work out a deal with whoever he wants to go to and then trade him.

I really think the jury is still out on whether we keep him. If we get thumped on Saturday and then play a dead flat game vs. CLE (like the week 17 Bengals game 2 years ago), I think he will be gone. If we play the Chargers to the wire and finish 9-7, with Lamar looking good throughout, it is quite possible we keep him.

Based on this comment in the PFT article posted, I don't think we outright fire him, even if we don't wish to retain him.

"If John Harbaugh isn’t fired, he can still be in play for a job elsewhere. The new team would contact the Ravens and negotiate compensation in the event Harbaugh is hired. Once an agreement on compensation is reached, the new team would approach Harbaugh directly and negotiate a contract."

It may very well be that we try to work his departure to get a (badly needed) draft pick. It seems risky, as to do this you are probably going to lose out on a few candidates, so it almost feels like this approach is only safe if we honestly believe our new HC is currently on staff. Any way you slice it, this has the potential to be a very pivotal offseason for the Ravens.

Agreed. I think a team really wanting a head coach would be willing to part with at least a second. We could possibly even get a first round pick for Harbaugh.

Yep - I followed up my previous post with that very sentiment.

For the people who want to see him gone, that's the best case scenario. We not only get rid of him, but we're compensated for getting rid of him. No idea what we can expect to get from another team for letting him go

I doubt we could get a 1st for him, but we could very well get a 2nd.

I'd be stunned by a 1st rounder - but whoever would be willing to trade, it would likely be a team with a pretty bad record, so the pick could be high.
