The 2022 Offseason Thread

I love listening to EDC talk. He’s the one that says a lot but still says nothing at all sometimes, but the journey to get there is so insightful.

even when he doesnt answer the question he often offers some delightful nugget about draft philosophy

he can be deliberately misleading but he's often very honest when talking about larger-scale conceptual ideas especially with regards to the draft - some of his most interesting answers to questions have been about the philosophy behind 1st round trades and positional value and stuff like that

In relation to this, it sounds like he’s a Wink guy and will be going with him wherever he lands.

that's the impression i got

looking right now at having to fill vacancies at (I)LB coach, OLB coach and TE coach
zrebiec saying that zach orr is interviewing on monday

we have sometimes in the past not had an OLB coach and OLBs have moved between the DL and the LB groups depending on what they're doing - if Weaver sticks around at DL coach i could potentially see him taking over both groups potentially - but more likely we add a new guy

I'm giving the Browns credit here. They basically just came out and said "hey we fired Hue midseason and then went 5-3 after that. If we wanted to lose, we'd have just kept Hue."

LMFAO I know

I am still alittle upset at what could have been with CJ Mosley and Zach Orr

Decosta lying when he said he hasnt seeing AB campaigning to join us.. im sure harbaugh or somebody sent him the pics.
He probably just didnt wanna talk about AB

When zach orr left everyone was saying he wasnt that good and he benefited
From mosley.
His tackles definitely were a benefit of having CJ Moseley and showed within the tape. No one was saying he was bad, because clearly he wasn't, but man he missed a lot of tackles.

The one thing I really took away from EDC is that he doesn't seem to think the cap space is going to be a big issue. Says we can sign anyone we want and repeatedly said we'll get more room, we'll get more room.

I think this indicates we're gonna move on from a few players that have been under performing. EDC doesn't hold on to guys too long.

Definitely capping for sure. I'm sure Lacie saw that Lamar would like AB.

i mean they clearly have no interest in him and never had any interest in him - not sure why anyone would bother telling him about social media stuff like that... harbs isnt on social media so the only person who'd tell him is lacie and she's said many times they dont really talk football at home and i imagine she'd have no reason to tell him either

i think that's a good takeaway - the phrasing "anyone we want" seems pretty instructive - they know who they want to retain and they know they can afford them if they want to - the only question is whether they want to

Exactly how I took it! Makes me think we're gonna try and keep Ricard and Averett and move on from Bozeman.

I don't see Averett as part of this though. Like he also emphasized how they need to force more turnovers in the secondary and how adding a dynamic Corner and/or Safety would be ideal. I don't think Averett fits that mold, and I think if you retain Averett, it largely takes you out of the Corner market.

But mostly, I can't see them paying all the money they'd need to three corners like that. I think the "attempt" to keep Averett is going to be more like "we'll give you a well-below-market value offer, and you can test the market and get back to us", which he probably won't be getting back to us.

My best guess is... they'll keep Ricard, probably try to get Campbell to come back for one more year, and Averett and Bozeman are gone. They're going to look to upgrade the Oline in both FA and the draft, maybe look to add a Safety in FA, and then probably hammer the draft with Defense. Noted that he mentioned they wanted to get "younger" on the Dline, meaning I don't think they'll be in the FA market there.

I thought someone said he was coaching OLB with the jags.

you're right - but it's odd - they dont seem to have a LB coach - had orr at OLB coach and tony gilbert as assistant LB coach and that's it...

odd situation there especially given that their DC is a DL coach so not even like he's going to be running the LB room

but josh allen seemed to like him
