The 2022 Offseason Thread

What for which part? The part where I'm not losing any sleep over not drafting some guys that have proven to be unreliable?
Or the part where you forget that the only reason Campbell and Dobbins were/are on this team is because we drafted, and subsequently traded, Hurst. If we draft one of those either two over him, Dobbins is for certain not a Raven, and its highly unlikely Campbell is/was either.

I love Ronnie but what could’ve been

I mean...
Ridley in his first five years is on track to miss 40% of his teams games, and James missed 45% of his teams games in his first four years.
For context, Ronnie Stanley has missed about 35% of games played.

They're all elite at their positions, but wholly unreliable when it comes to being on the field. Teams frequently need contingent plans for these guys when they're not on the field, because it occurs at a high rate.

I wouldn't trade Hurst straight up for either of those guys, but I'm not sure I'd trade JK Dobbins + Calais Campbell for either of those two. Especially in the current landscape.
What are you talking about? They all missed only a random game or two per season until the major injury.
"Unreliable" means something else.

No it doesn't.

Ridley battled minor injuries and mental health issues. Those mental health issues kept him out of many games, with no beginning or end in sight. That is the very textbook definition of unreliable. A person who leaves the team for an undetermined amount of time, with no target date for return, then gets suspended for sports betting, would be the Webster Dictionary textbook definition of an "unreliable" football player. You literally have no clue when he will play again, who he will play for, or when he'll simply decide he doesn't want to do it anymore.

For James, it's MULTIPLE major injuries, not "the" injury. He missed most of his second year in 2019 with a stress fracture in his foot. Only played in December that year. Missed 11 games.

The very next year, in 2020, he tore his meniscus before the season started, which is a completely separate injury. Missed the whole season.

I'm fine if people want to make the argument he's not reliable, but I'm just wondering how we move the goal posts with our own players in comparison. I'd say most people, including myself, would classify Stanley as "unreliable" right now, yet I'm not sure how somebody reconciles Stanley as unreliable but James as reliable.

Bruh nobody is losing any sleep over it… ridley hasnt been hurt, he missed time due to mental issues and now gambling.. who knows, playing in bmore couldve prevented both of those things..i dnt really care for campbell and dobbins has already missed 50% of his games so i mean yea i dnt get it…

I mean I don't really care what the reason for missing time is... NFL teams only care what you can do for them.
Maybe playing in Baltimore helped him, but maybe it makes it worse.

I'd rather dance with the devil I know than dance with the one I don't. And what nobody knows is the next time Ridley is going to strap up and have any impact on a football team.

Not a guy I'm spending 5 seconds thinking about "yeah, maybe we shoulda drafted him".

Did the Raiders game last year cause Stanley to have a set back? Or did it just show he was never ready in the first place?

That's much better news. Thank you!
Sounds like it was one of those where he probably needed another surgery from the onset but wanted to try to tough through it. But we know he was going to need surgery after the season if he played through it, but the recommendation was to just shut him down and get it taken care of earlier to be in better shape for 2022. At least, that's what the reports were at the time of all the confusion.

Ok so in terms of his timetable we should really only be considering the recovery since his final surgery which was what around week 4 last year? What exactly was the surgery? What's that time line? Do we know any of these things?

Nothing like that but Harbs has said that Ronnie told him that he’s much further along at this point this year than he was last year. But also know they aren’t going to push him hard either. Assuming no setbacks, they’re probably gunning for week 1 for him. Might even start camp on PUP and gradually ramp up toward the end of it if I had to guess.

I see no need to rush him. He's a very important part of our team

we know he's in a much better place vs this time last year re: recovery - think the surgery was a lot less "major" (if surgery can ever not be major lol) this time around

and harbs says he's hopeful and expects him to be ready to start the season but they'll bring him along slowly

Harbs says he thinks Bowser will be ready by training camp
