The 2022 Offseason Thread

Ehh, maybe. Geno Stone is still in the picture, whom the Ravens obviously like.
With the signing of Fuller, you don't necessarily have to play 3 safety looks, but you still can. When Fuller wasn't here, it was hard to see an ideal 4 Corner package, especially in Dime. Now you can play four corners and two safeties, which is much more of a traditional Dime anyway.
Also noting that the likelihood of us having our top 4 Corners and both of our Safeties fully healthy for extended periods of time is extremely low. Stephens hybrid ability is great, but he's probably just a bigger need at Corner at the moment. Maybe that changes slightly with Clark here, but if Williams and Hamilton are healthy all year (and we've had pretty good luck with Safety health in recent years), they're probably never coming off the field anyway. That puts Clark or whoever is in that role as a sub-package player almost exclusively.
Sorry what was your eh maybe in reference to?

It means I don't think Stephens playing Corner is an indication the team feels Clark is going to stay. I don't think it matters either way.
They could easily trade Clark tomorrow and Stephens still primarily work as a Corner. That would make plenty of sense.

I see what you're saying. It may not be causal for sure, but I guess my point was simply there are a lot of talented defensive backs and they are moving guys into different roles to maximize their utility.

While it's true that Hamilton and Williams may dominate the Safety snaps, Im sure there will be some 3 safety looks that Chuck can be a part of and I'm also sure Chuck can play some LB. They like him near the LOS anyway

Well it has the look to me that Stephens at Corner was always the plan. Probably even before the draft or FA. It very much has the feel of them thinking Stephens was more out-of-position last year, due to the lack of depth at Safety and the need once Elliott went down.

It's weird. EDC was saying things in the presser after he drafted Stephens saying he envisioned him as S all the way. Idk if that was really true or not.

Mark Andrews is always a very complimentary person and always a great interview, but he seemed particularly excited by our rookie tight tends.

Said they have a natural knack for football and seem to be way ahead of where he was as a rookie. I don't know how true that is but even if one of them turns out to be an effective guy year 1, we could have a really strong room
The coaches were RAVING about likely in the new wired episode. Greg Roman and the TE coach kept going back and forth about how impressed they’ve been in his practices

That seems so weird but maybe they're right! For our sakes let's hope so
I was scratching my head at the pick, but I was kinda high on Likely, I just couldn’t predict a range for him because his film was super non traditional. He’s got extremely confident hands and catches natural, positioning his body and locating the ball for the catch come very natural for him as well, and he’s got some breakaway speed. My biggest question was wtf is his route running like because he didn’t get to show much at all in their offense, coincidentally he did a lot of what Hayden hurst did here

We'll see. That initial depth chart will be fun to see

Big explicit comment from Harbs today. Brandon Stephens is a corner/safety now as opposed to a safety/corner.

Stephens hasn't played Safety these last 2 practices and has been playing CB. Interestingly particularly on the outside but also inside.

Makes me think Chuck is staying.
He also said Chuck can play corner.
Whatever that means.

    ROGER GOODELLCOM, NFL

In an announcement Wednesday, a player designated for return from injured reserve must miss a minimum of four games.

Additional changes to the I.R. rule allow a team to designate for return up to eight players over the course of the season, and the same player can be activated two separate times, though that would count twice to the team's total of eight. Last season, a designated-for-return I.R. player only had to miss a minimum of three contests. On top of the changes for injured reserve, practice squad rosters were voted to stay at 16, and up to six veterans are still eligible to join each practice squad.

What about a rule that allows a team to bring back half of their team in the instance more than a third of your team is on IR?

Harbs didnt say chuck is corner first and safety second though. He specifically said that about Stephens, which surprised tf out of me and I was waiting to see a post about it here lol
Remember I asked a while ago can Stephens play CB and everyone was like no. Well Harbs thinks he can. I hope for our sakes Harbs is right and we're all wrong. But I'm skeptical

I personally think he looks like a nickel safety hybrid, but the guy is such a fluid and balanced athlete that maybe he can play some cb too. I’d be surprised if he’s better at cb than at safety

Just finished watching the new Wired and we have some really impressive rookies. Just touching on a few...

Charlie Kolar - not sure how his football career will play out but he seems like the type of guy that could be a coach one day if he wants to. His film breakdown at the combine was impressive. Big and lumbering to an extent but really understands the nuance of the game and articulates it really well.

Jalyn Armour-Davis - giving us some insight into his pre-draft meeting with the scouts was incredible. Such a mature and humble young man. I can see instantly why they fell in love with this kid. I loved him based on his play on the field but after seeing that, go ahead and make me the president of his fan club. Wow.

Damarion Williams - fits the stereotype of a guy that grew up with not much more than family and football and that really showed in such a short segment. The passion for the game just bleeds out and the personality is so infectious. His dog mentality is clearly the reason why whatever scout loved him so much, and should fit well as he moves into more of a slot role.

Shemar Bridges - not that they talked about him a ton, but felt it was noteworthy how they included him in the video where virtually no other UDFA was talked about. Mentioned he was picking it up the most (along with Bolden) and have to say I'm not surprised based on his profile.

I noticed that comment about Bridges. I was really surprised because I didn't know him at all!
