Rookie You're Most Concerned About - Potential Bust

I think that him playing DE in college as opposed to DT has given people the impression that his floor is low. He was productive as a 300 pound 4-3 DE in college, but he never had that special athleticism to play the edge in the NFL, so they said high floor, low ceiling.

However, his athleticism is definitely above average for the interior. His ceiling is low as an edge guy, but I think it's high as a full time interior guy, playing the 5, 3, and 1 spots. In the NFL, 5 techs play more of a DT role and often slide into the 3 or 1 depending on the formation. He'll excel on the inside. He's quicker than given credit for, and I'll admit I didn't give him enough credit at first.
I totally agree and people are considering this. Hopefully we are right and everyone is pleasantly surprised.

I worry most about Bowser and Williams. They have so much potential but will have to put in the work. I really hope Williams can stay clean off the feild

One thing I was thinking about the other day is that many people are on the hype train of Humphrey being a better safety than corner.

So, I pose this question to you all. Eddie Jackson breaks his leg and the Tide convert a corner to safety, but it's Minkah Fitzpatrick, the more talented corner of the two. If Humphrey is better at safety than corner, why do you take Fitzpatrick and put him at safety above Humphrey?

I've been watching as much tape on all our rookies and I feel the following 4 rookies have a bright future

Tim Williams
Potential player comp = Robert Mathis

Chris Wormley
Potential player comp- Giants version of Chris Canty

3-Marlon Humphrey
Potential player comp- Nate Clements

4- NIco Siragusa
potential player comp Edwin Mulitalo

that leaves two guys that I'm concerned about

tyus bowser
- What concerns me the most about his tape is his lack of instincts. It's blatant ..a SAM linebacker cannot second guess himself. Nearly every snap, he's a second behind the play and relies on his athletic skills to try and counter that. I'm very wary of linebackers that lack IQ and are not instinctive. A non-instinctive and non-assertive linebacker is a recipe for a bust.

Jermain Elumenaor

- Another project. Sure he's powerful but his footwork is poor. Not that concerned about his situation. He's a project so whatever.

If i'm going to a pick a way too early bust in the making it's of course our second round pick, tyus bowser.

what are you're feelings?
bowser 2nd guesses himself as a pass rusher, but I agree with joey that he never does this in coverage. He should be great in coverage from the get go. He's a bit raw as an edge rusher, but has all the physical traits. Worst case scenario is if he can't get coached up as an edge he will be a great coverage backer.

Neither. Way too early for me to determine who is and isn't a "bust".

I agree that he is right now most impressive in coverage. In terms of rushing the quarterback, I'd put him decidedly behind both Judon and Tim Williams at this point.
He also appears to have a way to go as an outside run defender.
I don't see him getting off blocks and making plays....he does a nice job of extending his arms and of keeping his eyes on the play but doesn't typically MAKE a play on the ball.
He isn't a big a physical tackler despite his physical make up and speed.
He could get a look inside next to CJ or begin as a passing downs/late game with a lead specialist of sorts but I don't see him usurping Judon.

I honestly see contributions from all the picks thru the 4th round. Past that I can't call anyone a bust. I think Bowser develops into a player who really elevates the play of the front 7 with his ability to cover and rush. The key will be using the guys properly and not switching their position around.

Agreed on on all fronts. He will be excellent for obvious pass downs and specifically 3rd and short where qbs are looking for hot reads, he's very disruptive in that regard, but Judon looked the part of a 3 down defender as a rookie, I think he's gonna end up being sizzles replacement. How do we fit Judon, bowser, and williams on the field all at once? Idk. But we shouldn't have a shortage of quality edge defenders. I just don't see any of those 3 being total failures. Williams is probably an elite edge rusher, I can't see any other outcome, he is amazing, bowser at worst is a very versatile moving piece who creates mismatches and coverage disruptions, and Judon is a big physical point-of-attack defender and a smart one.

Apparently a Ravens positional coach said that Tim Williams is the most impressive rookie at OTA's and will be DRoY.

—The Baltimore Ravens selected Marlon Humphrey, Tyus Bowser, Chris Wormley and Tim Williams with four straight picks in the 2017 draft, but it's Williams I'm told is impressing coaches in OTAs. Said one source with the Ravens, "Williams will be Defensive Rookie of the Year."

Wow, that's some high praise. Let's hope it happens.

That's good to hear. Particularly as it's been very quiet in terms of local media concerning Williams.
I haven't heard a peep.

The more I watch of Williams, the more I'm impressed with his blend of instinct and intuition on the field.

He can set an impressive outside edge, he can drop into coverage.....He could probably put on weight without sacrificing burst and quickness even though he is already pretty physical especially given his somewhat slight frame.

As long as his head stays straight, I'm confident given time he will be an exceptional overall OLB.

Hearing this about williams brings a tear to my eye. I was utterly obsessed with this dudes film and I couldn't imagine, character concerns and all, him not going in the late first or early second.

Serrell Tuggs

Practice Squad
Maybe he's been rushing against James Hurst in practice, getting a sack every play and the coaches are thinking, 'Wow, this guy's amazing!'
