Welcome to the Ravens, Hayden Hurst and Lamar Jackson

Every analyst basically is saying that there is no overlap between Flacco's and Jackson's skill sets and that an offense can't possibly exist that both can play in. It's like they think Joe Flacco can't move and has only thrown back shoulder fade passes for the past 9 years.

Yeah joes not even good at the backshoulder fade in recent times lol

But it is stupid - jackson played in more of a pro-style offence than Darnold and mayfield lol and flacco has always when healthy been able to move

Yes the offence would have to change for Jackson - not because he can’t sit in the pocket but because you waste him by having him only do those things

DeCosta said Derwin James would've been the pick @16. They thought he was one of the best players in the draft and it was tough to trade down. But wanted to get more picks in the 3rd and 4th round.

Interesting - where did he say that?
I felt sure they would have been super high on Edmunds...

I absolutely still love the trade down - I know many here were high on James and I can see why but I was always lower on him than others (which I guess includes the ravens then too lol)

In retrospect the trade down was a good move since it allowed us to get Jackson for a cheap price compared to our original draft capital. Passing on James though still stings.

I was literally yelling at the TV when we passed on James and Edmunds lol

If Hurst and Jackson pan out though then it will be worth it.

Hurst, jackson, Andrews and Averett (I think it’s averett - one of the 4th rounders) given that the trade backs directly allowed us to get those 2 players too

I think this draft will be one of our best. 5 eventual starters (Jackson, Hurst, Brown, Young, Bozeman) plus possibly both WRs next season. Even Elliot might be a starter next year. Also Averett, Andrews, and that last pick should get a decent amount of playing time.

And in part it'll be thanks to those trade downs.

im not sure im as sure/hopeful about bozeman as other seem - to me he seems like an underpowered JAG who looks like a starter but not necessarily a good one - he looks like someone who might develop into an ok starter/high quality backup but never a difference maker in a positive sense - i just think his ceiling is so extraordinarily low as a potential starter but certainly jackson, hurst, brown, andrews, young, averett and maybe 1 of the 2 wrs we would/should hope to become significant contributors for a decent period of their rookie contracts

It’s going to sting for a long time, unless James or Edmunds busts or Jackson is who we think he is, because I’m not sure we trade back into the first without that draft capital.

I feel the last three drafts even with the Correa and Kaufusi busts have been very good and has replenished the team with some talent. Of course we won’t know more about the last class (2017) this season.

It’s like we’ve decided that day 2 is our high risk pick day of the draft - we go safe in round 1 and then take falling talent in day 3 but we go high-risk in day 2 and it’s not been working out so well for us so far

On the lounge podcast.

I'm note sure if all those players you mentioned are a direct result out of the 1st round trades. We didn't pick up an additional pick. Pick 154 and 215 turned into 65 and 125.
But accumulating 5 6th and 7th round picks is great, to me those picks are 50/50 the more you have the higher are your chances.

the trade backs from 65 (that we got from the trade down) created more picks...

Watching Andrews a lot and I know this much... when Jackson scrambles, LOOK FOR ANDREWS! It needs to be drilled into his head. Andrews entire game is run n' shoot/backyard football. I fucking LOVE the idea of Lamar Jackson with a guy who built his college career on manipulating coverages. A lot of Andrews plays were partially off the cuff, he reacts to the defense. That skillset with a qb who can extend the play will make for some jaw dropping third downs. Think Big Ben to Holmes 08-09

if they can hone the ability to read defenders the same way and successfully execute out of phase plays then that relationship could become just as lethal in rhythm in the pocket if they are reading defenders in sync - we could implement option-based routes as a primary concept which would be exciting to see - obviously this is purely hypothetical but if they can react well together off the cuff then i would be even more excited about how they could react as a partnership in-phase in the pocket

but yeah its exciting

someone should create a poll on who we think will be the better rookie.. im guaranteeing that raquan will be a better player than edmunds.. i like baker as the best qb also. if anyone wanna put a small bet on that, im done for it too. Doest have to be $$

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I agree about Roquan > Edmunds. Edmunds just doesn't have the same instincts that Roquan has and those can take some time to develop.

I think Rosen is the best QB out of the class, but Arizona needs to give him some weapons for sure.
