The DL, The Lamar and Another Blown Lead

If you couple this to Marlon's comment of keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result, this may elucidate the problem. MM may be calling the game the same way the whole time, even when the opposing offense is changing. This is why I asked the people with the all22 whether they've noticed differential defensive play calling over the course of the game or if it stays stagnant.

I think its much more on lamar than it is MM.. cant really expect defense to play lights out all 4 quarters when offense start to shit the bed..

I dont think its more on Lamar, I dont think its more on the defense. When you look at the losses BOTH sides decided to shit the bed together. The real question is why in all 3 losses has one unit not been able to rally and help at the other in the 4th?

Turns out being so under market value came back to bite us. I do think your point about his agent accepting it though is a fair critique. It's the Ravens prerogative to offer whatever they want and if the agent accepts well its supposed to be a done deal. Turns out in this case that just simply didn't happen. Such a fucked situation.

Also personally, I'd say Zadrius is a little better than just good, I'd say he's in the top 10% of pass rushers. And again personally I'd rather have a top 10% pass rusher than a top 5% S, but that's just me. I totally understand where you're coming from and I don't think you're saying anything crazy.

If that's the case then props to you for having that hindsight. If I were negotiating with someone and they originally accepted the deal that I offered them, then I'm not going to think twice about it. Once you agree then that's it. Show me a time where an NFL team decided to walked back on an original offer in order to offer more money. If it's happened before it had to have been an anomaly. Beyond that, like you said, it was a bad situation, nothing they could've done to prevent it.
 
Another real head scratcher incoming. Kenyan Drake makes a really interesting point. Week one we played in NJ and the run game was utter shit. Then in week 6 back in that same game against another good defense the run game was actually dominant. Now his point was look at how we've been able to improve the run game so dramatically, we'll put it all together! Nice little positive spin.

Now here's the interesting part. (See these plots I made for you) There is truly no correlation between the quality of the run game and whether we win. Additionally, there is no correlation between the quality of the running game and number of points scored. In fact if you look theres a negative correlation between non-Lamar rushing yards and points scored. However, there is a positive correlation between Lamar's rushing yards and points scored. Unfortunately, those Lamar rushing yards are not indicative of winning though so far this year.

Oh yeah there's no way an NFL team has come back to offer more money. My intuition wasn't that special, there were a lot of EDGE rushers signed that same week for deals considerably larger and by comparison it just jumped out that we had a great deal on our hands. Zadarius took advantage of that and that's why he's not with us. Shitty situation, nothing we could've done other than probably have come in higher from the onset, but I certainly wasn't calling for that at the time. So I put no blame on EDC for that at all. This whole thing was me just wishing that the Zadarius situation just worked out, that's all.

Last one, but this time for the passing offense. What you see is that passing offense actually corresponds to points scored. Yards to WRs has the strongest correlation to points followed by TEs and then RBs which is 0. Then you'll see that total offense is a weaker correlation than passing because as shown above rushing is basically irrelevant to the offense putting up points or winning. THEN THE CRAZIEST ONE! There is actually a negative correlation between total offense and point differential lololol. Talk about your offense and defense just never being on the same page.

I think the conclusion here is both sides of the ball need to wake up and face the truth. On the offensive side of the ball, Roman should use Lamar in the running game and pass as much as he can successfully. What team does that sound like.... hint its Buffalo. On the defensive side, you have to adapt and find a way to adjust to what the other team is doing and not have a total meltdown in he 4th quarter every week.

For a positive spin, hopefully the combination of an easier schedule, added pass rush reinforcements, and return of Bateman, the team can right the ship a little.

On the other hand Zadarius Smith already has 5.5 sacks this season. Imagine if we didn't low ball the absolute shit out of him and actually paid him what a pass rusher is worth.

I guarantee you this team is substantially better with Zadarius Smith compared to Marcus Williams unfortunately. I am no fan whatsoever of building from the back in. ESPECIALLY when the middle is complete garbage.

There was absolutely a big difference. Williams very likely would have stopped some of those passes, not to mention the turnovers he created.

You're also talking about a team that's always focused a bit on elite safety play (Rod Woodson and Ed Reed back to back). Our defenses have always been at there best when you have an opportunistic safety making QBs truly pay for any bad pass.

First of all I cant recall even one pass given up where it was on Geno. In fact the only time I remember Geno was when he tipped a pass. Second keep reading the later posts, Im not going through this again. S is important, a great S is a great thing to have, Williams is a great S. All of those things can be true and despite that having a great pass rusher is still a better thing to have.
 
My takes:

This one stings for me more than the other two, because its not really technique or personnel that causes the problem. It's just sloppy mistakes. Really dumb penalties, really poor execution of simple concepts.

Definitely one of Lamar's weaker games. He completely mis-reads the zone-read in the first quarter that would have gone for a solid play, but instead goes for a big loss and takes Ravens out of field goal range. Its first quarter, so it goes unnoticed, but its a huge play in the game.

Also completely misses the RB in the flat on 3rd down that would have, at least, made Tucker's 56 yard FG a few yards shorter, and may have even resulted in a first down. Again, two early plays in the game that tend to not be noticed as much, but they have material impact on how the rest of the game is played.

A lot of people criticizing Lamar for the INT, which I agree, was a world-class bad decision, BUT, I actually sort of preferred that they got the ball in such favorable field position, since it allows us to get the ball back quicker and have a shot to win the game. Of course we literally fumbled that opportunity away.

The illegal formation on the QB sneak is just laughably stupid to me. Like that's the dumb shit winning teams don't do. The most simplistic of tasks to execute and we can't do it.

Also, somebody tell Oweh that waving around another players helmet like you just killed a soldier in Sparta is fucking dumb also, and its an obvious penalty for the officials.
 
For most of the offseason all we heard about concerning Lamar was how he was working on his throwing mechanics and really staying dialed in even to the point he was even willing to miss OTA's . In training camp and during the first week of the regular season we heard all about how The Ravens allowed Lamar Jackson personal quarterback coach to coach him and work with the coaching staff with somethings. That's dope and great cause I've seen improvement from LJ throwing mechanics wise but honestly no way should Daniel Jones should have made his receivers look better than Lamar Jackson receivers.

No way you gonna convince me that Daniel Jones receivers are more talented than The Ravens receivers currently without Bateman. Jackson suppose to be the better quarterback but Jones just looked much better. I can't even blame this on coaching and for all the hate Roman has been getting the guy definitely has improved playing calling wise when it comes to the passing game . I guess Lamar needs better receivers but it's interesting how his throwing mechanics are off especially since the offensive line is passing blocking way better than last year.

A quarterback is not gonna be perfect everytime but the spotlight is definitely gonna be on Lamar a bit more especially when it's well known he's the guy that turned down The Ravens offer because he wants a fully guaranteed contract. I just would have liked to have seen Lamar Jackson help his receivers looked better in the past two games without Bateman but he hasn't. Devin Duvernay definitely has done his thing but maybe a better receiver would help I guess. Looked like some of the receives we either not good were open on some plays but Lamar only has Mark Andrews in his vision
 
Well not feeling too much better this morning. The three losses this season have been such a heartbreak. I may need to take a break from putting myself through it again this weekend. Hopefully we get healthier and with some missing pieces coming back, we can start playing much better. however, if the weather is nice, I have enough to do around the house and with the cars before winter. Losses are easier for me to take when I don’t get so emotionally involved watching it happen. We will see how I feel on Sunday. So far, this season has been a real disappointment for me and I am sure many of you feel the same.

It can’t be healthy to be that pissed off after a football game and I have had anger issues three times in the past few weeks.
