The DL, The Lamar and Another Blown Lead

After some reflection, I realized I'm not really as pissed off by this game as many other fans are. As someone else said - this was such a silly loss that it is more of a laughing matter. All the penalties, the silly decisions by Lamar at the end seems like it should not all happen again in a single game.

But what is really worrying is that "one of the best secondaries in the league" constantly underperforms and there are 8th string receivers open on every 3rd down allowing a low-end QB complete it every time. Year in and year out. What the hell is the issue? Is the defensive system completely broken, is it the lack of ILBs that can cover or something else? I wonder if we shouldn't have brought in an external DC with a completely different system rather than evolving the same system we've had since the stone age - something seems broken, but I can't tell what.

W.r.t. Lamar - that was a terrible performance, but I don't think it changes his contract value or the absolute necessity of extending him. The guy gives the team a chance to win each and every week even if the rest of the team sucks and you simply don't find those guys even if you get a handful of 1st rounders. The interception rate increase during 2021-2022 is worrying, but I see no chance that the Ravens won't keep him long term.

I think it's the lack of pass rush. We really can't consistently get to the QB/at least pressure them as much as we probably should.

Right now we are a middle of the pack team as it pertains to sacks.

That secondary? It's third in take aways.

I never thought this place would make me feel like i was on facebook but here we are...
Is it this place or is it this team's piss-poor gameplay that's making you feel that you're on Facebook? Asking for a friend!

This is better then Harbs "nothing is going to change" response.

He's taking some accountability finally. Players have to execute but they also have to be put in position to succeed.

“We have to take responsibility for that, and we have to find a way to do it,” head coach John Harbaugh said postgame of finishing games in the fourth quarter. “It comes to coaches and players; we have to come up with calls, we have to coach our guys better in those situations, be in the right spot, play the right leverage, block the play the correct way, whatever it might be. Those are the things we have to do a better job of, and players have to take responsibility as well.

Oh, like the things you learn in pee wee ball? Gotcha coach!

here's a positive. Stanley played 51 snaps and finished with elite marks in pass pro
Ok, cool RM. But, we ain't passing out any participation trophies. This team looks bad and plays poorly. 6 games in and with what, like 11 more to go? They are showing (at least to me) that they are nothing special at this point.

Yes but at the end of the day you evaluate a team based on the units. OLine looks very good, RBs look good, WR looks bad, but expectedly so, TEs look great, QB looks inconsistent, DLine is great, LBs are bad, secondary seems to be playing better the past couple games, and the ST is usually great. The Outside LB problem will resolve itself so its largely just an interior issue on defense and the offense just needs more consistent QB play.
