The Offensive Line Thread

With Scherff, the skins started using him at RT before moving him inside. Last year, which was his second year he had a good year. I still say to this day they should have drafted Leonard Williams.

Are you arguing or agreeing? Scherff was better suited to play guard, every scout who knew what he was talking about was banging that drum.

Homestly the only positions i would take off the board in the 1st 3 rounds are DL CB and QB. If you think there is talent at any other position you pull the trigger.
If you don't think you should take a Champ Bailey or an Aaron Donald in the first, not sure what to say.

If we are picking at 18 for some reason and one of Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, or Sam Darnold falls to us somehow and we don't take him Ozzie should be fired ASAP. Sorry. All three are potential franchise guys and Flacco is getting older and QB is by far the most important position on the team. Likewise, if Flacco plays bad this season it's likely we start looking for different options.
Yes. Yes and yes. If we're in any sort of striking distance to get a quarterback, ( Josh Allen for me right now), you have to make that happen.

I'm sure if Champ Bailey invented a time machine and became 20 he would be a lock regardless of who you have, but when you might have already drafted someone whi could give you one of the top if not the top 1/2 CB combo in a year or two with great depth behind them AND your DL is in a similar situation why take that risk?

A first round pick has 3 real outcomes though not all of equal chance, boom, bust, or average to above average starter. 2 of those categories are fine for most 1st rounders, but if he has to be boom or not play you are making a huge risk thst seems unnecessary

I'd take Rosen and Allen there, seamless transition from one franchise qb to the next, but for some reason I feel like darnold isn't quite who he's being hyped up to be

His name is Jermaine Eluemunor. He's a project right now, but he's got the tools, and I'd bet the the FO is projecting he'll be ready to roll by the time we need him to be ready. He is the prototype RG for a power or gap scheme.
i have to agree. this kid is going to be a solid but we need to draft o-lineman a little sooner these next few drafts. i would love to see us build a line like the cowgirls have

I think their scouts go to the Bucky Brooks school of talent evaluation.
I have a difficult time forgetting the fact that Brooks placed Timmy Jernigan over Aaron Donald in his pre-draft rankings. Now, don't get me wrong. I liked Jernigan as well. But from an upside and talent perspective, Donald may have been one of the easiest evaluations I've ever done.

As a VT alumni, Aaron Donald was a nightmare for my Hokie fan self.

You don't draft your 3rd round pick to be a full time starter year unless you want a high 1st next year. Great if it works out that way but you don't plan for it.

As for Wormley, we honestly thought he would see some play this year. It's not evwn his fault that a unit that lost 2 players and was a weakness of the team would without adding anyone become a strength of the team.
I'm pretty sure at least a couple of the guys drafted in the 3rd ahead of Wormley are starting week 1.

The 2nd sentence sort of covers that. Its terrific if it happens, but you do not plan on it happening because if they were expected to be a day 1 starter they would not be available in the 3rd round.

also they were drafted ahead of wormley - so we couldnt have picked them anyway...

Whenever you have two potential All-Pro's on the offensive line you can never really have a bad OL. I personally think Jensen is going to be good for us. He has plenty of experience and has developed himself up to this point. While Hurt and Howard are concerns, I have not heard a lot of bad reviews on Hurst in particular, he didn't look bad in the pre-season either.
Howard is absolutely a concern but I think its largely due to rust and getting himself back into shape. We'll see how he progresses.

Pass Protection isn't the concern, it is run blocking and Hurst is a horrible run blocker. Howard needs to shake off the rust and I'm hoping he can do it. His strength used to be run blocking. I'm hoping Jensen is good for us as well, but again he is better at pass pro than run blocking. The scheme change could definitely help him.

I feel Jensen will do good for us as well in this scheme. I like that he's nasty but my only concern with him is his temperament at times. He does tend to fly off on occasion and we really don't need stupid penalties.
