The Offensive Line Thread

I just heard on 105.7 from Vinny that supposedly Stanley and Jensen left the field but didn't leave practice after some type of contact that seemed to result in an injury to both, which gave us a starting OL of:

Hurst | Lewis | Skura | Elumenor | Nembot

I'm seriously concerned. He also said Stanley didn't look like the injury was serious but still this is a bit ridiculous with these injuries
I'm starting to become more worried about the depth along the OL.

the offense looks like crap especially the running game from what everyone is saying. sure flacco is not running it but do we want him too with the way the line has played. harbs is just being harbs by being positive after every injury but trades with some of our draft picks 4-7 should be made to help the o-line out and asap. i guess marty will be the scapegoat in week 3 when he is fired and roman takes over. hope things improve and soon.

....
Still nothing done. No surprises.

Still pissed off. Sounds like the running game is awful. Wonder who's to blame there?

I hate to say it but poor Marty. Will probably lose his job for lack of a running game even though our line is terrible at run blocking right now.

God our offense is going to suck.

Could also throw the Chargers in the conversation. Low-key putrid run blocking, worst graded run blocking unit in each of the past two seasons. One of the more interesting numbers is the fact that West averaged 2.63 YAC per attempt. The 4.0 YPC looks entirely unimpressive on its own, but it's worth noting that the former figure is higher than the likes of David Johnson, LeSean McCoy, DeMarco Murray and Devonta Freeman. Obviously not putting him in their category by any means. But it does seem like West had to earn his yards the hard way. He also broke more tackles per snap than Murray, Freeman and Ezekiel Elliott. Which makes it even more impressive for Kenneth Dixon in that he averaged an even higher 2.94 YAC per attempt and broke the 2nd most tackles per snap in the league. Not always the most telling stat considering that Jalen Richard finished 1st and Rob Kelley was 4th, but it's worth noting nonetheless.

The recent announcement of Nick Martin winning the Texans starting center job gives me a thought. We could give Greg Mancz a look via trade. After being demoted to the back up role, in theory, the cost shouldn't be too high for the former UDFA. I've mostly only read about him, but he reportedly had a rock solid season last year while playing the 2nd most snaps in the league among centers with 1,262. He's only 25 as well. Just an idea. Provided that he doesn't win one of their OG spots of course.

I wonder if they are looking to bring him in as a starter or as depth because the Ravens do not have enough healthy OLinemen to really go into the year

I actually have confidence in Jensen being an above average center. Howard played out his 15 mins of fame at RT. He could end up being below average for us. I like Lewis at RT then trying Howard at LG. At least competing at LG with Eluemunor and Nembot. That would make for a really big left side of the of the offensive line. I think I would pull for Eluemunor to win that camp war. He is athletic and very strong. If he can come out of the pack winning that position as a rookie. I think it would speak volumes about his maturity, potential and roof as a player. I'm pulling for him to be a replacement for Osemele. I like the Oline the Lewis at Right Tackle. If Eluemunor can win LG as a rookie I think the Line could be solid.

I won't get too excited about Howard knowing he could break his arm and be out for the season just signing the contract knowing our luck.

Seriously though, major improvement(from at least what we have now) at RT and with cuts still to come and all, I would say much like the June 1st deadline we could see some things shake out in our favor.

Stanley-Jensen-Mangold-Yanda-Howard

That's a good line to have going forward if all parties are healthy imo. Will help with the run game and with protection especially. I still think we'd need to go get a few players next offseason, but it'd be better than having Hurst imo.

I still think you are drastically overestimating how much Mangold has left in the tank. Jensen will be fine at Center otherwise the roster moves would not have played out like they did.
