Lamar Jackson

EDC not paying him market value before the Watson deal is what got us here.

My hunch is that EDC overplayed his hand. Trying to squeeze out a team friendly deal.. then Watson fully guaranteed happen. Ain’t no going back after that.
There's also no evidence whatsoever that Lamar was interested in signing before Watson, I have zero clue what kind of deal Lamar was looking for at that point, and I think you and anybody else would have a hard time coming up with what a "market value" deal looked like, pre Watson.

If we're being realistic about it, the "market value" for Lamar, pre-Watson deal, was probably in the $40-45M AAV range, over 5-6 years, and probably $150M or less in fully gtd money. Said offer is considered "laughable" now, purely based on the contract of one person, which still looks like a bad outlier. And my suspicion is in the next 12 months there's going to be more large QB contracts signed that will continue to make Watson look like an outlier. Namely... Burrow and Herbert.

And I have 0% confidence Lamar would have taken that deal then if it was offered to him.

What largely got us here is Lamar not having an agent.

I agree with that. I hope he comes back, this has been miserable
Well the real thing to fault is Roman. He was bad with the 49ers, too. And there is no denying that Lamar makes this offense better, but this offense right now could score an average of 1 touchdown more per game without Roman, and with Lamar, an average of 2.

Oh yea it’s time to move on from Roman. But this year we need Lamar back for the playoffs, I’d hate to miss an opportunity for a run

Yeah. We have a pretty stacked roster except for receivers, so we could make a run for sure. I hope Roman gets fired ASAP, because the chances of us making a run go down with each play Roman calls.

Nah.

What got us here was the Ravens owner and possibly FO being cheap.

Didn't want to pay Lamar, didn't want to pay for decent WRs. Nobody is open, Lamar hangs in the pocket too long and gets injured. Two years in a row.
I'd say thinking the FO is too cheap to pay Lamar is about on pace with thinking Lamar has really operated at all as if he wanted a long term deal to begin with. Which he hasn't.
People can talk about not wanting to pay decent WRs all day long. I personally don't want to pay for decent WRs either. Why would I pay retail for somebody who will only produce wholesale?
They won't pay for good WRs because there aren't any to pay. Gotta draft them. And we didn't do that.

Italics is the new bold

That's the sad reality for the Ravens.
-Agent's don't just negotiate for the player, they also negotiate for themselves.

Waiting is looking even better and better now.
I agree... waiting benefits him, due to the franchise tag structure.
But spoiler alert... when he's done playing under the Tags, he still won't get the Watson fully gtd deal.

I'd also recommend for all the people that think he should get the Watson deal... might want to tell Watson to start playing a LOT better football. And in a hurry. If he's not like a top 5 QB next year, 31 NFL owners are going to be sitting there saying "uh, yeah, no" to every QB after who asks for same. And remember, players don't set markets...
