The real thing that Lamar needs to understand about the union advising him is that they have no interest in seeing him remain successful or going to a team that is going to understand how to build a team around him. So they are not really on HIS side in anything other than in the attempt to get the largest contract possible and push the pay ceiling still higher for all players. He's being advised solely for getting the largest contract, not the best fit for him in any way.

If i tell the union that my only interest is getting paid top dollar, thats how theyre gonna go about things so if he dnt care about team building, they shouldnt neither..

Everything he possibly could do... as in draw a line in the sand at the Watson deal, and not budge off of it? That's not doing everything. That's doing nothing.

To your point, only 4 players have had the exclusive tag since 2012. It’s not very common, for good reason.

I'd imagine the "poison pill" aspect would be structured in a way that they couldn't. I would imagine literally any offer by any other team is either a) going to be at a gtd $ level that Steve won't go to, or more likely, b) a year 1 cap hit in the $50M+ range, with no wiggle room to drop it down. Which the Ravens couldn't and wouldn't match.

And yes, the two first rounders isn't enough.

and thats exactly why he should get the most he can. From fans standpoint thats all we care about but what about from lamar pov? This a once a 10 lifetime opportunity for him and his entire bloodline.. The same fans and media or whoever are gonna be the same people who stop supporting off a simple fk up like an instagram post or not standing for the flag or insulting a certain group of individuals.. even as a fan i hope lamar saying fk everyone else, he gotta get and do whats gonna potentially be best for his family. Thats just how it is, gotta get paid….. dam thats pac

But they're not negotiating anything for him, they are just advising. Btw, I'm not faulting him for using them as advisors - a guy with no representation needs some guidance, but their guidance is about making another record breaking contract signing. If that's what he's out for, and not at all about finding a fit for himself in a team or system to be a very well paid champion and this is truly just a money grab he's after, I'm, personally, even more glad that this continues like he's not going to be on our team. I'll be happy for him if he gets what he wants, but I'll be equally as happy that we didn't stretch ourselves so thin in obtaining him at that cost.

Well, you can't deny that there is a heaping pile of selfishness in that line tho; that maybe we and his team mates saw a little bit of in him not playing if he could have in the Playoffs... as many in the know can't seem to confirm or really deny (...see the video with Stephen A and MadDog and Keyshawn Johnson discussing...) And I don't think you can fault the FO for potentially separating from that. It becomes exponentially more difficult to field a competitive team when you have to worry about the vanity of pay with a demanding player.
 
How much is enough for Lamar? Enough to prevent us from getting high quality free agent receivers or a great corner?

Any contract he signs will set him up for life at 26 years old. He would not have to work a single day in his life after football with the contract he will receive either from us or someone else.

It would be selfish of me for wanting lamar to take less in order to fill my desires as a fan..look, you dnt even know if lamar couldve played or not which im sure he couldnt and even if he did, the risk of an injury again was likely to happen..if you and others have that to say about him and cant even put yourselves in his shoes to see his perspective, why on earth should he please us by taking less for a team and fans who really dgaf about him and want him to take less to fill their needs?

Set him up for life but what about after him? You think the owners are still doing it for themselves? He can play for free and we still could not win a SB.. that eagles team was loaded and look what happened to them..this team gonna be here long after he is gone.

The only feasible way we can’t match in theory is if they do an astronomical signing bonus. Base salary and roster bonuses can be converted easily. Hard for there to be a way not to match.
 
Didnt someone set up their contract to where his salary increases with cap salary or what not? I dnt remember exactly but how did that work out?
