That would have been a natural time for a 21 year old rookie with only 6 starts to crumble. That pass to Andrews for a quick TD to take the wind out of the LAC team and fans was huge. Definitely a big man play there after everything else that went wrong
Granted I still worry about his exposure to big hits as a runner, but he looked good passing last night.
Although he doesn’t seem to really throw to the sideline from the pocket, anyone else notice that?
In my half pt ppr where we give 4 pts per TD pass for qb, Rivers got 1 pt, Lamar had just shy of 10He'll easily get 22 lol. We count TDs as 6 points and get a 3 point bonus for every 200 passing yards. Mahomes is averaging 40.19 pts per game this year in our scoring format.
I think Lamar took some weird hits yesterday.Worry about him taking a big hit is a legitimate concern. I’m thinking it always will be. He’s been very good at slip sliding away from the big hit but there is no way to be sure that will always Avoid it.
And yes sideline throw from the pocket is definitely a deficiency. We’ll see if that can develop over time.
Lmao, absolutely love the post. Always room on the bandwagon*me, walks in sheepishly*

And you can’t teach poiseThat would have been a natural time for a 21 year old rookie with only 6 starts to crumble.
We can point out his shortcomings but he is showing me what I think is the #1 attribute for a QB and that is poise.
I'm hoping that we loosen the leash even further next week against the Browns. Get Lamar 25 - 28 pass attempts this week.; I really want him to get those reps in, this is his last chance against a live defense before the playoffs start.
Personally... I don’t see the great passing game lamar had that you all see, I saw some really disappointing things that I thought he would’ve worked out by now. He threw one to John brown where Casey Hayward was easily breaking downhill and there was no reason he should’ve thought it was ok to throw it, and he also threw it behind and it almost got picked, he put one behind hurst where he had a strong step and a half on a crosser and lamar just missed it, the endzone fade to crab was a horrible attempt and shows he hasn’t picked up the fade yet and again I still worry he never develops that throw. He showed plenty of good, and i was at a Christmas party drunk and stoned watching it last night so my memory is foggy, but I know for a fact he had some very poor throws and decisions last night.
However... we ended up winning despite lamar being held to very few rush yards on few attempts, and he did make some really nice throws, one that’s overlooked is the beautiful sideline throw to crab, where he threw to a spot and let crab get it, and crab got outmanned, but good coverage and perfect placement on a throw that lamar has struggled with.

I think this was lamar's best passing game by a mile - im currently working out with edgar what happened on that brown throw you mentioned - it's either a huge misread because crabtree's wide open (cant tell from the broadcast - might be a safety coming over the top) or everything is covered incredibly tight and he's just trying to force the ball in on a 3rd and medium-long...
he did miss some throws but outside of 1 intercept-able (maybe 2) balls he really was safe with the football which is better than in previous weeks (and they werent egregious bad throws either - just slightly behind both times to john brown)
the hayden hurst one was annoying because it was the sidearm action that didnt lead the receiver enough again - but he will get that - i think that's an nfl speed thing and he needs to remember to lead players more on those sidearms because the ball speed is much slower
the endzone fade to crab was a good throw and crab should have caught it
there were a couple of other misses but no ducks or bounced balls where he missed by miles like last week though and no really terrible passes which hasnt happened yet in his 6 starts so far which was cool
and on top of that he found the short throws that had been open on film (that edgar spotted), he had a couple of beautiful long passes - the andrews one was a dime and the crabtree one in the 2 minute drill was also a beaut where he showed great touch to get it over the linebacker (the crabtree one was a tiny bit behind and was a good catch but im not sure it beats the linebacker if he leads crabtree on that one)
and he kept doing the things he has been doing well so far too
i was mightily impressed with this game - he payed off a few of the things id seen him have the potential for the previous 5 weeks and he started to put some of it together in a meaningful way
The Crabtree fade i mentioned isn’t the one that crab dropped, but the one that sailed well over crabs head when he had solid positioning for a fadeI think this was lamar's best passing game by a mile - im currently working out with edgar what happened on that brown throw you mentioned - it's either a huge misread because crabtree's wide open (cant tell from the broadcast - might be a safety coming over the top) or everything is covered incredibly tight and he's just trying to force the ball in on a 3rd and medium-long...

Definitely more a personnel issue than a Lamar issue. Same story, different QB lolmaybe its a gameplan protection thing but you're right that's not a big part of our offence
but we're also not really running many route combinations that utilise throws outside like that - the only receiver we really have who boxes people out or runs the fade is crabtree - and he dropped a td on a nice sideline throw and dropped a 1st down on another sideline throw lol
i think @flynismo is probably right that it's a personnel issue as much as (or more than) a lamar issue
Weren't we talking about that before the game? Open up the playbook and take off the leash. We did that a little bit last night. Worked out well, so give him some more.
The Crabtree fade i mentioned isn’t the one that crab dropped, but the one that sailed well over crabs head when he had solid positioning for a fade
Yeah, those mesh point fumbles have to be corrected or they will lose us games. Your 2nd point will come with more chemistry and improved mechanics. He needs to work on two things for now as far as I'm concerned, and he is golden -
1. Stop with the goddamn fumbles
2. Overthrowing open receivers on deeper throws

Next year we can work on refining his game. For now, I just want to see the above happen and I'll be happy as a clam.
exactly - the more we let him do - the more defences are gonna struggle because lamar's shown that if you sell out for run and the linebackers come up then he's got he touch and feel to put that ball over the linebackers heads... i wanna see us run some more seams when we get into cover 2 as well - mark andrews and snead are killing other teams on that route but we havent really made anyone pay yet
and we know that we can get yards inside even when teams clog up lamar's keepers - the more balanced we are the less teams will be able to do to stop us
