Lamar Jackson

Not sure how he'd actually get the info, but since he's reasonably well connected in the local circles... Drew Forrester reporting that Lamar wants 6 years, $280M fully guaranteed. Of course, take it with a grain of salt.

his tweets the last few days would suggest he doesnt have any info
I know who he gets his info from and that person is up and down, which is the only reason I gave it a modicum of thought. AKA that person is someone that I don't think would know but I'm not going to completely discount it

i more meant that he wasnt tweeting like someone who knew what the demand was - not that he had bad info

If true, he'll be playing elsewhere in a few years most likely. He'll need at least a SB ring to be able to ask for that, and probably more.

Doubt it's true though.

Plus, as much as I'd love a 6/280 with like 200 or less guaranteed, and as much as everybody knows AAV really doesn't matter, I don't see Lamar signing a deal for an AAV of less than $50M to be honest. He's at like $48M in that scenario.

Fucking get it done

Are you subliminally referring to me, sir? First, I wouldn't ever spill Lamar's secrets. Second, they keep these secrets from me too, because I have a drain for a mouth according to his mother. If I'm that person, I urge you to cease and desist slandering my name! lol!

Anyone think its gonna happen today?
I really don't think so. It isn't happening this year. Probably next year but the Ravens would have the leverage. It just depends on how we've done this year and the players up for extensions next year and the state of our roster. If they can absorb the 45M exclusive franchise tag for Lamar next year and still field a competitive team, the team has leverage. Otherwise, Lamar has leverage and will get the deal of his choice, because he'll wait for Burrow and the LA kid to get extended first.

no way this team doesn't extend Lamar, whether it be this year or next year. We can't afford NOT to extend him.
Of course we can, well just be unlikely to compete for a title while going through growing pains with a rookie or bridge QB for a year or two. Not ideal, but neither is 260M if thats really his price

Wrote about this before, but the scenario, to me, is this:
1. Lamar plays on the tag. It's going to be the exclusive tag, because Ravens can't risk the non-exclusive one. He'll cost like $45M or something similar.
2. When that happens, I will assume all of the below players won't be on the roster next year:
Calais Campbell (likely retires anyway)
Gus Edwards
Chuck Clark

I also think Nick Boyle will either be cut entirely, or asked to take a decent sized paycut. At least $2-3M, if not more.
I'd also say they'd need to do something with Zeitler. Either outright cut, which would save a good bit of space, or an extension.

All of that would probably get us to a point where we could have a functional offseason. Not enough to make any splash signings like a Marcus Williams or similar, but enough to acquire cheap or mid-tier veterans to fill gaps.

The elephant in the room is Peters, who's due to be a free agent. It would be challenging to bring him back, but not impossible. If they do, it'll take away a good bit of cap space they have.

Also the Ravens would have to be "cautious" with backloading contracts too much, given that they can't predict what 2024 looks like for Lamar. Another exclusive tag will be closer to $55-60M.

I’m doubting anything happens this year but I’d still be surprised if it doesn’t get done at some point. Ray and Ed were great players but we’ve never had anyone at this level of stardom with as much marketability as Lamar has. It’s a business but Lamar has now become part of the business, and I don’t think anyone in the organization is willing to take the risk associated with him not being here long term while he’s still in his prime.

also worth noting that 2023 will likely be one of our smallest draft classes in a while (barring another unexpected hollywood-like trade) - we're currently only slated for 7 picks (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6) with no comp picks on the horizon either for 2023

just worth factoring that tidbit into the 2023 offseason too
