Lamar Jackson

If we can extend Lamar this off-season than I’d like to see us go heavy in the WR/OL for the draft. Even at the expense of CB. Let’s just give him a fair shot so we can stop arguing about what other QBs have and Lamar doesn’t
He needs help. Just sign him and help him

Lamar
Roquan
Peters
Extend Zeitler
Draft a WR
Draft a CB
Draft a DL
Draft a OG

i mean the problem here is that we only have 2 draft picks in the top 100 most likely

that's not a lot of capital there to solve all the holes we'll have

we'll need to do a bunch of work in free agency

also not sure about an MP re-signing but if the price is right then sure...

that's kind of where im at as well
ironically, i think MM might do fine with lesser talent just because of his defensive philosophy as is can be suited to being the weaker unit on the team

id love to get a dominant CB, another EDGE (and this class is apparently stacked at EDGE) and DL too

but i'd be fine taking some risks on that side of the ball to make sure that this offence is loaded up so that this OL is still top notch with depth too, and with a receiving corps and stable of backs that can make plays both before and after the catch/contact

Find a LG
Add weapons: at least 1 WR but preferably 2 who you trust to make early impacts, hopefully an RB or 2 too

if it means that our starting CBs are Humphrey and Stephens or a less exciting low-cost veteran with splashes of Pepe, JAD and Washington mixed in then i'll take that for that outcome on the offensive side

If either Lamar or Roquan is here under the Tag, Peters is gone unless he takes a super team-friendly deal. I have reservations about him being brought back to begin with.

Its a WR and Corner offseason for me. Dline and Interior Oline are "needs" but I think I can get fillers there with cheaper veteran signings or mid-to-late round draft picks.

At least one or two of these groups pretty much has to be "neglected" if somebody is playing on the tag. There's just not enough cap space or draft capital to do it in one offseason.

I'm also pretty close to coming aboard the "we should keep Powers" train, but I don't know how much that will cost.

Draft will be driven by what we do or don't do in FA / trades.

To have a shot at quality signings, we can't have either Lamar or Smith on a franchise tag. And to have them both extended, we'd need to push quite a big chunk of cap down the line.

I'm fine with this - it would mean really high quality roster for at least couple of years and very competitive after that (assuming we get quality WR, CB and edge signed).

I don't trust De Costa will do something like that.

1-3 weeks right? Clown

what about Moses and Powers? I understand depth, but..
We'd need to re-sign Powers if we want him at LG but we've still got Mekari and Cleveland. Tristan Colon looked pretty good at Guard this year, we could re-sign him very cheaply too.

At RT we'll still have Moses and Faalele plus Mekari for next season.

The O line, which has been very good this year, will still be intact next season. I would use a late round pick at the position, just to keep the pipeline of depth going.

Well, to be fair, he never said 1-3 weeks. That was a Schefter claim that the fans bought into for some unknown reason.

He said week to week, which he is. Most MD's who have weighed in on the injury shared a 4-6 week timeline as more reasonable.

On the extensions... I'm fine with some cap pushing, mostly because, by all accounts, the next few years is when the salary cap is really going to explode. There's plenty of people I've seen who have a strong cap understanding who are projecting a $300M cap as being possible as early as like 2025-2026. So even if Lamar has a $60M cap hit three years from now, that'll likely be 20-25% of the cap or less, which isn't prohibitive in the modern NFL.

Plus Roquan will be expensive, but he won't be "that" expensive. Even at a $20M AAV, he's basically as expensive as a Stanley or Marlon. Again, even if he has a $25M cap hit 3 years from now, he'll cost like less than 10% of the cap. Plus a deal for a guy like him might only involve 2-3 years of gtd money. He'll be year to year after that.

But I guarantee an extension for Lamar and his cap hit in year 1 will be $30-35M or less. Could be significantly less. Could be closer to what he's playing this year on.

what do we need at OL?
For OL, Powers is a FA, Zeitler is older and on the last year of his deal, and people like me (and others) have floated the idea of whether Moses is a cap casualty if you're franchising Lamar. I'd like him to stay, but we also already have Mekari and Faalele for significantly cheaper, and I think both could easily start at RT and not be huge downgrades.

So its possible you'll need at least a new starting Guard and likely some depth, at least.

lol sure bud. Saying a QB with no playoff success isn't worth 10 high draft picks isn't, by any stretch of the imagination, correlated to "having scant respect for Lamar". Quite the opposite actually. People thinking he's worth that, or more, would likely appear to have some sort of odd, lets just call it "sexual desire" for Lamar. Something that really should be treated by trained professionals, and likely involves copious amounts of medication.
Are you accusing me of incest? How dare you??

You have scant respect for Lamar Jackson and his otherworldliness and that is disappointing. You were probably a Flacco apologist in your past life. I am simply aghast by your POV.
Flacco apologist or not, he's absolutely right, Lamar is not going to get 10 draft picks. That being said, I'm not sure which way RMC leaned pre 2018, but it's not important regarding this trade.

what do we need at OL?
It depends on if we keep Zeitler. If we extend Powers, although I'd like to see us keep Zeitler, we can save quite a bit by cutting him. That being said, I could see us restructuring his contract or adding a year onto it to save some cap space.

@BoredMarine13 I'm sure we will draft offensive line, as we always do, but it most likely will be 4th or 5th round. We do a decent job developing mid round offensive lineman. We can't pigeon hole ourselves with a 1st round WR, because we may also need a CB and truly depends on what position is the better player when we draft. I'd like to see us bring in a Stephon Gilmore, if we can get him reasonably or even Marcus Peters if we could extend him reasonably, due to him having a down year. He is still youngish and believe he had a down year due to last years injury.

what about Moses and Powers? I understand depth, but..
Moses is still under contract next season and at a very reasonable contract and the way he has come on the last half season has been very good. Definitely want to keep him for another season and then in 2024, I think Faalele could be ready to take over.

As I said in the previous email, I'd like to extend Powers, but at no more than 6m or so per season and that may not get it done.
